Bulletproof Love

I was in the hospital for the second time in a year now. I was there for two days at least now. I had woken up the morning but I wasn't ready to open my eyes. I heard faint yelling between Vic and Tony sometimes I couldn't make out what they were saying but I knew it was about me.
Tony snuck in last night to hold my hand and he was crying so much all I wanted was to hold him and tell him I loved him. I never got to say it before the car hit us. I loved Tony so much.
They wouldn't let him stay with me though so I think he was in the hallway. I hadn’t heard from him this morning though.

My body was sore, not too damaged but sore. I was knocked out for a bit, and bruised up. All I wanted was Tony right now. I heard footsteps approaching my bed. A nurse probably; she shook me a bit I assume to get me to open my eyes, but I wasn't ready for the world yet. Well that is until I heard a really familiar voice.

“What the fuck!” My eyes shot open and I looked at Cameron who was running wildly and her eyes were full of terror.

“Cam,” I said. She looked at me with so much pain in her eyes. “I’m so sorry,” I said as I started to cry again. I sat up and Cameron sat down at the end of my bed.

The nurse walked back in and smiled. “You’re awake! That means you should be able to head home soon,” she smiled. “Do you have a technical legal guardian here with you?” she asked looking around.

I watched as Vic went to raise his hand and I glared at him. I was so angry and I knew I would never forgive him. The nurse went to talk to Vic but what happened next I don't think anyone expected.

“I am her legal guardian. I am her mother!”

“Mom?” Vic said. I looked at her with so much anger.

“Aw, mi hija!” she said racing towards me. She reached for a hug but I swatted her hands away.
She looked at me with sad eyes and I glared at her.

“You are not my mother. If you were you wouldn't have left me. You wouldn't have run from your problems. You would have stayed and taught us how to live and you would have been a mom. Instead you left me alone, with no one but Vic and Mike to raise me. How the hell could you do that and then run in here and call yourself a mother,” I said. “You left when I needed you, and you weren’t there any other time I need you so I certainly don't need you now,” I said as I started to cry even more. “I don't need you, or you,” I said pointing between her and Vic. “You both have done nothing for me these past years. You don't even know who I am anymore. I need Tony. Where is he?” I said slipping out of the bed and walking towards the door.

Mike walked over to me and grabbed my arm.

“Where is he?” I was screaming now. I wasn't even crying now. Just angry.

“Em,” Vic said walking towards me. I pushed Vic back and he stumbled a bit.

“Where is he Vic?” I said louder now.

“He left Em,” he said. I ran into the hallway looking between the rooms and running around like a maniac but I didn't see him anywhere. I fell to the ground and curled myself up. Mike walked over to me and held me in his arms as I cried.

“He couldn't leave. He didn't. You're lying! You’re such a liar!” I screamed as I saw Vic appear.

“I’m sorry Em but Tony is gone,” he said. I felt my head start spinning and I grabbed it tightly between my hands. “He left you this note,” Vic said handing a crumbled piece of paper to me.

I untangled myself from Mike’s grip and I unfolded the paper. As soon as I saw the handwriting I knew it was Tony. I read it all the way through three times before it actually hit me. The one I truly loved was gone.

And just like he came into my life, so suddenly. He was gone, so suddenly.

“I don't even say I love you,” I whispered to the note.

“I love you Tony Perry.”
