You'd Better Hide the Bullets

Desperate Measures

"I know it's short notice but do you wanna hang out later on tonight?" Patrick asked me as we walked to our lockers. "I could ask the guys too, it's just we usually hang out on Wednesdays or most nights to be honest but like obviously we wanna include you now." He rambled. It's adorable actually.

"Yeah you guys could come to my house?" I suggested.

"Are you sure?" He asked again. I smiled and unlocked my locker.

"Of course. My little sister will try to hang out with us but it's fine." I laughed as I put my books in my bag and slung it over my shoulder and locked the locker.

"That's great, just text me your address then?" Patrick told me walking backwards towards his locker.

"Yeah sorry I gotta run, detention." I sighed. He nodded and walked off, leaving me to basically run to the detention room.

I got there with a minute to spare, almost stumbling in you the room that was filled with delinquents. The teacher in charge was sleeping at his desk, wow this school is so shit. I scanned the room for a chair and noticed the only one available was next to, the one and only Mike Fuentes. My eyes closed in frustration and my feet directed me towards the seat, sitting down slowly I noticed Mike's eyes on me. "Yes?" I snapped at him.

He jumped back a little at the tone of my voice. "What are you in for?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Your jackass brother grassed me in for skipping class yesterday morning then locked me in a closet for 2 hours and I missed the rest of the day." I explained with such an angry tone in my voice.

"Yeah he is a jackass." Mike said quietly. I looked at him and he wasn't being sarcastic or weird. Just honest strangely.

"What are you in for?" I asked. He looked straight ahead then turned his gaze to me.

"Bet up a freshman for making fun of a girl with learning difficulties." He told me. I looked at his features, not really understanding why he did it. As far as I've heard and seen, he isn't a nice guy. And that was a good deed he did, well I guess violence isn't good at all but like he stuck up someone who I guess couldn't or didn't want to stand up for herself.

"Well, didn't see that coming." I smirked at him.

"Vic is the jerk of my family." He cocked his head to the side.

"I can see that for sure." I laughed and looked at my desk. There was many different types of graffiti on the table, mostly abusive slurs about other students.

"You see the teacher down there." Mike pointed to the dude asleep on his desk. "Alcoholic. He's barely hanging on in there but the school don't wanna fire him. He's been here for years so they stick him on detention duty to give him some purpose. He's an idiot but most of the time he's too out of it to even notice what's going on. Hence why we are sitting here chatting away." Mike told me. It's strange to see Mike talking to me, he actually seems nice.

"Mike why are you talking to me?" I blurted out. I made a face at how stupid and obnoxious I sounded but thankfully he just laughed at it.

"I kinda feel bad." He mumbled, looking off into the distance.

"Why?" I questioned, unsure of where this is going.

He snapped his eyes back to mine. "Because my brother is the most horrible person in this school but yet everyone worships him. I gotta keep being like him to keep him happy, but I hate it. Tony and Jaime do it because they have nothing better to do." He said softly. "Me, I do it because I have no other friends." He sighed. I felt awful for him, he wasn't really a bad person.

"Mike I'm sorry to hear that, but you know you don't have to go along with it." I told him.

"I do though, Vic is strange. And he's changing." Mike ran his hand through his hair and then placed his hat back on his head.

"I think it's really important that you learn to be your own person. Vic is horrible, I don't understand why but he is." I shook my head, getting angry the more I thought about it.

"He never used to be though." Mike said quietly.

"How so?" I asked him. He thought for a minute then turned more to face me.

"So Vic used to be really athletic, on all the sports teams and like super popular for just being an all round good guy. He started dating the head cheerleader in sophomore year until she broke up with him because he was apparently too clingy or whatever." He explained. I nodded to let him know I was listening. "He didn't leave his room for a month, refused to come to school. Then when he came back he changed, became horrible to everyone. He's still popular because he's aggressive and people are just plain scared of him. I dunno man, he's just not my brother anymore." Mike looked genuinely devastated about it all.

"Wow, I'm sorry to hear that." I felt genuinely sad for him. It just looks like Mike misses his big brother, and that has to hurt. I know what it's like to miss a sibling because of their actions. "I know it's not the same but me and my sister are at each other's throats constantly now because she kissed my ex boyfriend, I miss her but I can't stand what she has became you know." I told him. He nodded in understanding, which is good. Mike clearly appreciates the conversation.

"I just feel bad for you." He sighed. I raised an eyebrow at the statement.

"Why?" I asked.

"You're his new play toy and honestly you're not gonna get out of this one easily. He has some fascination with you and it definitely isn't normal." Mike explained. I frowned a little, hearing it out loud is something that made it all feel much more real.

"If you ever need to get away from it then you know you can come to me right?" I smiled at him, making his face break out in a really nice, genuine smile.

"Thank you Scarlett." He said as he looked down at his feet.

The last twenty minutes of detention was spent chatting with Mike about random things, we walked out of the school building and into the parking lot. I noticed Vic was sitting in his car waiting for Mike. He looked at me and rolled his eyes. "Mike hurry up." He said loudly to Mike through the rolled down window.

"I'll see you later." Mike smiled at me and walked over to the passenger door.

Mike waved bye then then drove off. I got into my car and drove home, got some food then told my mom about friends coming over. She was delighted that I had made some. I told Patrick my address and they arrived just after half 6. "Welcome to mi casa." I said enthusiastically as I swung the door open.

Patrick laughed and Pete just rolled his eyes. Amber and Lewis didn't even realise I had even said anything, clearly engrossed in a conversation they were having. "They're still arguing about superheroes." Patrick groaned.

"Wow, that's unfortunate." I shrugged and let everyone into my house.

"Mom, Scarlett didn't clean her dishes after dinner." Kiera screamed from the kitchen.

"And now we run." I mumbled and sprinted up the stairs.

The guys followed me at a much slower pace. We all piled into my room, which is a perfect size for the amount of people here. I jumped onto my bed and shoved my iPod on with it on shuffle for some music. "Nice room." Amber said looking around and taking it in.

"Thanks, I haven't finished unpacking yet but I'll get there." I laughed as I noticed things around my room.

"We should play Xbox and listen to cute pop punk bands like New Found Glory and Sum 41." Pete announced as he threw himself onto my bed, grabbing my controller.

"Whatever floats your boat there Wentz." I said patting his shoulder.

An hour passed, Patrick and Pete were in a serious game of free for all on Call of Duty. "No way! You clearly looked at my screen." Pete shouted loudly.

"Patrick didn't look anywhere." I defended him.

"Oh Patrick you getting your girlfriend to back you up huh." Pete said with frustration.

"No way man, I can handle myself." Patrick sat up and killed Pete one last time as the timer hit zero. "Eat my dick." Patrick said standing up on my bed and thrusting his crotch in Pete's face, just as Kiera walked into my room. Great.

"Mom! Scarlett's friends are having a gay orgy." She shouted as she stared in horror.

"Get out you little shit." I told Kiera but she wouldn't budge.

"Well I will go away but there's a dude downstairs looking for you." She flipped me off then walked out of the room.

"Okay that's weird. Everyone I know or like is in this room." I laughed nervously. I jumped off my bed and ran downstairs, I could hear the footsteps follow me but they stopped near the top of the stairs and just creeped thinking I couldn't hear nor see them.

I walked over to the door and opened it, shocked to see the one and only Vic Fuentes on the other side. "Hey Scarlett." He said with the most friendly tone ever.

I walked outside making him step back. "What are you doing here?" I asked with confusion all over my face. "Actually how the Hell did you find out where I live?" I shook my head.

"Oh never mind about that." He rolled his eyes playfully. "I just wanted to stop by and let you know that your stunt today will not go unpunished. And trust me you won't be able to stop this one." He sounded so evil.

"You came all the way to my house to tell me that?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.

He turned around and pointed to the house across the street. "See that house there, I live there." He grinned, turning his attention back to me. "And I'll always be watching." He sounded like a total creep, he turned and walked down the stairs of my porch.

"Yeah well, you're a lousy kisser, no wonder you can't keep a girlfriend." It just slipped out without thinking. My hand slapped over my mouth, eyes wide and filled with regret. Shit. He stopped dead in his tracks and turned around slowly, a strange look on his face. Then he raced back up the stairs, a face pace in his step. He looked so angry which gave me the fear that he was going to hit me. Suddenly he pushed me against the door, which made a loud thud. "Please don't hit me!" I shouted as he got closer, eyes glued shut from fear.

Then I felt his lips on mine, his hands both around the back of my neck and head, holding me tightly. His lips were soft and warm against mine and for a second I forgot where we were and who he was. He ran his tongue against my lips which instantly parted, letting his tongue slip into my mouth and fight against mine. I pulled him in, closer to me by grabbing onto his shirt. And then he just pulled away. I opened my eyes confused and then reality hit. "Yeah, I'm a really lousy kisser that's why you were basically spreading your legs for me there." He smirked at me.

I could feel my cheeks flush red and my whole body felt embarrassed. My hand grabbed onto the door knob and I slipped back into my house, confused and embarrassed. Why the fuck did I kiss him back? "So why was Vic Fuentes at your door?" I was greeted by a row of my friends with their arms folded across their chests as if they were concerned parents. I rolled my eyes at them and we went back up stairs.
