You'd Better Hide the Bullets

Jaime, Tony, Mike, Patrick, Pete, Lewis and Amber sat in a circle on the floor of my bedroom. We were all brainstorming ideas on how to find Vic, everyone was worried sick about him. "It's been a week since he went missing, has anyone even heard from him?" Lewis asked, looking at everyone.

"Nothing." Mike mumbled. His voice sounded broken, fragile from all the things that has happened in the past week.

"He's fine, we all have to stay positive and not dwell on it." I told them all. Everyone had a thoughtful look on their faces, no one wanted to even say the worst out come. We all thought it for a second or two, but we had to stay strong.

"Yeah let's not assume the worst okay." Pete said with an upbeat tone in his voice.

"How are you parents doing?" I asked Mike, resting my hand on his shoulder. He looked at me and gave a weak smile.

"They're devastated but they're trying to keep it together." Mike said softly. "It's scary to think that Vic is somewhere alone, I would do anything to get him back." Mike put his head in his hands.

"I know Mike, we all want him back." I sighed. Suddenly my phone began buzzing as it sat in front of me on my floor. I looked at it and Vic's name flashed on the screen. Mike's eyes widened.

"Scarlett answer it." Mike said frantically, grabbing my phone and thrusting it in my hand.

I quickly pressed the receive call button and put my phone to my ear. "SCARLETTTTT." Vic pretty much screamed down the phone, it wasn't a frantic scream, more like a drunken one.

"Vic, are you okay?" I asked quickly, my heart was racing.

"Scar, Scar listen up. New York Knicks rule right?" Vic slurred his speech.

"Since when do you like basket ball?" I retaliated. He laughed loudly down he phone.

"You're from New York, you should know if they rule or not." He said quietly, voice lined with sarcasm. "I put $30 on New York Knicks to win tonight, I need to win and I thought 'oh my God, Scarlett is from New York and she will know' so I called you." He giggled.

"Why are you betting money Vic, what's wrong?" I felt my heart racing, everyone's eyes glued on me.

"I kinda ran into some trouble two days ago with money so now I'm broke and need some money to y'know, keep living." He said as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.

"What did you do with all your money? You saved over a grand from when you worked in the music store." I asked getting worried.

"It doesn't matter Scarlett, nothing matters anymore and hey, that's the whole point right?" He sounded so happy, but underneath his drunken slurs I could hear the devastation in his speech.

"It does, please come back. I know what Ali has done. I deleted the video and you're free from her." I said quickly, it was cut off by Vic's loud laughing.

"You think that's the reason I left?" He said loudly down the phone. "That's so funny, wow." He sounded much more serious now.

"Then why did you leave?" I frowned, even though he couldn't see it.

"I caught you in bed with my best friend Scarlett, that really hurt." He said softly.

"I found you in bed with my sister Vic, then you proceeded to date her for months on end. Did I run away from my problems? No. I dealt with it." I said sternly down the phone. "But guess what Vic, you need to grow up and get over yourself. If you don't come back soon then you're not gonna graduate from school, you're gonna ruin your whole life and make your parents worried. They're so scared of what has happened to you Vic, I had police at my door in the middle of the night. EVERYONE is worried about you and you're sitting drunk out of your mind placing bets on the New York fucking Knicks!" I shouted down the phone at him.

"The Knicks suck." Lewis said loudly from the other side of the circle.

"Calm down Scarlett." He said laughing.

"Vic tell me where you are." I demanded, hoping he would just grow up and tell me.

"Nope, bye." And he hung up the phone. I threw it down on the carpet and groaned loudly.

"So did he tell you or?" Tony asked, raising an eyebrow.

"No, he didn't." I said trying to calm myself down.

"He's running out of money Mike, I don't know what he's trying to do with all this, what he's trying to prove." I sighed loudly. Mike looked at me and nodded.

"I'll get my dad to wire him some money." He said standing up and leaving.

Slowly but surely everyone left until it was only me and Jaime. We both sat across from each other, silence in the air. We continued to avoid contact out of awkwardness. "Look Scarlett we need to talk about last week." Jaime spoke up. I looked at him and nodded, too awkward to actually say anything. "I've been thinking, and now it's confirmed that Vic left because of what happened between us maybe it's best if it stays as a one time thing." He sounded so sad about it.

"I understand what you mean, I don't wanna make things awkward for everyone else and losing your best friend over this, isn't worth it." I said softly, avoiding eye contact.

"I agree and I don't wanna lose you as a friend either, it was nice what happened but it has caused to much drama and hurt. Vic's parents are heartbroken and it's all our fault." Jaime put his head in his hands.

"Jaime he didn't need to leave, he's just being insecure and stupid about it all. He chose to run away, and trust me if it's the last thing I do. I'm going to find him." I said, crawling over to sit in front of Jaime. I grabbed his hands and smiled at him.

"He's so lucky to have you love him the way you do, I hope that someday I can find that." Jaime told me, I pulled him into my arms and hugged him.

"We're gonna get him back, I promise you." I whispered. Jaime nodded into our hug, making me feel reassured, I just really wanted Vic to come back.
