You'd Better Hide the Bullets

The Consequense

Today was going to be an awful day, I could just feel it. Kiera was trying to be sympathetic towards me because of what happened last night. Honestly I'm trying to forget it but I know that as soon as I walk through the school doors I'm going to be a laughing stock. Thankfully though Kiera didn't tell my parents or Ali. And if there's one thing I didn't want, it's that Ali finds out that I'm a total loser.

I skipped breakfast today and basically ran to my car to avoid questions. I drove to school as quickly as I could without breaking the speed limit, which was kinda faster than I thought. When I arrived in the parking lot I shut off my car and stay in it for a minute.

Nothing is gonna to suck more than today, right? I shook the thoughts and grabbed my bag, climbing out of my car and strolling into the front doors. Mostly people just laughed at me, I tried to ignore it until I got to my locker. I put my books into my locker and slammed it shut. I noticed Vic, Jaime and Tony a few lockers down pinning some kid up against the locker and taunting him

I rolled my eyes and marched over to them. I shoved Vic out of the way and he looked at me with confusion. I grabbed the kid out of their grips and pulled him with me. They didn't say a word and neither did the boy. He just walked with me. "Stay away from them, they're nothing but trouble." I warned him looking him in the eyes. He nodded and ran off frantically.

I glanced back down to where they were still standing, Vic looked up at me with a totally broken look on his face, I just flipped him off and walked away. I decided to go outside and find Pete on the bleachers like we did most mornings now.

And low and behold, he was sitting there with sunglasses on and all in black, with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. A small smile crept upon my mouth at the sight of him, he was just hilarious.

I sat down next to him and he gave me a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry kid." He mumbled, handing me a cigarette. I just let out a huge sigh.

"It's okay Pete, shit happens." I shrugged. He handed me a lighter and I lit up the cigarette, taking a huge draw of it and blowing it out.

"So much has changed since you got here." He said softly. I looked up at him with confusion on my face.

"How so?" I asked taking another drag.

"I dunno, everyone's changing. Patrick is more confident, Amber and Lewis finally admitted they like each other and Vic isn't so scary anymore. You've changed so much in such a good way but for some reason, you're not getting to enjoy the good change." He told me. I nodded understanding what he was telling me.

"Maybe I'll catch a break sometime." I shrugged. He laughed and nodded along with me.

"So what are we doing for Halloween tonight?" He asked me. I took one last draw of my cigarette and threw it away.

"I'm actually being made to look after Kiera." I told him.

"I was gonna have a horror movie night and you could bring Kiera." He told me. I nodded.

"She would like that." I smiled. We both got up and decided to go to class since it was starting soon.

I made my way to music, feeling extremely nervous about it all. Pete stood beside me and nudged me along. "It'll be fine, okay." He reassured me with a smile. I couldn't help but feel completely unsettled.

We walked through the door and everyone stared at me. I couldn't help but feel like crying. I just walked to my usual seat with Pete and tried to sink into the background.

Mr Haynes walked into the class and noticed me in the back. "Tony, Jaime I want to speak to you." He called them out. Vic stood up too and dragged his chair over to sit with us.

"Scarlett, please let me talk to you." He begged. I couldn't look at him, I felt totally insecure and disgusting after what happened last night.

"She doesn't wanna talk to you." Pete said defensively. Vic looked at him with anger covering his face.

"It's not your business." Vic spat at Pete.

"Yes it is, she's my best friend and you humiliated her." Pete spoke with so much anger.

"If you would let me explain it wasn't like that." Vic tried to defend himself. "Yes I told them to do it but I called it off after I realised it was too horrible. They just didn't get the message." Vic explained.

"But you did set it up and whether or not you wanted it to happen you still set it up, you still planned to do that to me. That's why I hate you." I spat at him. He looked so hurt and broken but he didn't to know the truth.

Jaime and Tony walked back into the room and Vic looked over at them as they picked up their bags. "We have detention for a week and have been suspended for the rest of the day thanks to you." Jaime growled at Vic. I felt really awkward since Vic was sitting with us.

"Just go." I mumbled to Vic.

"Fine, fine I'll fucking go." He stood up and his chair fell back onto the floor, he grabbed his bag and stormed off out the door. What a drama queen.
