You'd Better Hide the Bullets

Reckless

High school is supposed to be the most fun part of your growing up life, apparently. Whoever said that was clearly deluded and has no idea what it's really like attending a public school in America because it is far from fun. Especially when you're uprooted from your home to move to another state because your parents decide it's for the best. I'm an East Coast girl, not West.

"Loser." Someone mumbled to me as I walked down the hallway. Really, what are we in kindergarten? Loser is he best these idiots can come up with?

I shook it off and continued to walk down towards my new locker. Hopefully not everyone is a total ass hat. But so far it's not looking good. San Diego sucks already. "Move it." A stern voice said from behind me. I turned slightly see an angry looking dude behind me.

"Sorry." I sighed. He shoved past me and walked on ahead, through the crowd of people.

I finally made it to my locker and put my books in it, then closed it over and locked it. I turned to see a guy with longish brown hair standing, leaning against a locker across from me. "You're new." He stated more than asking.

"Yeah I am." I nodded, shifting my weight to the other foot.

"Nice hair, you like alternative music I take it." He pointed out again, as if he knew me perfectly.

"I guess I do." I smiled politely.

"Hey Mikey, who's this you're chatting to?" A dude with longish brown hair and caramel skin walked over to the other kid.

"She's the new kid." The kid said. The other guy cocked his head to the side and nodded slowly.

"Well isn't that something." He smirked at me. I didn't get a good vibe from him at all. "Hey why don't you hang out with us at lunch time?" He said to me with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. But who am I to turn up friends on my first day?

"Sure where will I meet you guys?" I asked.

"Just outside the cafeteria" He looked at the other guy with a smirk. "Oh I'm Vic by the way and this is my brother Mike. Good luck fresh meat." He winked as he walked off with Mike. Something about this kid didn't sit well with me. I didn't like it at all.

"Met the locals then I see." A voice spoke up. I looked up from my feet and seen a really geeky looking guy wearing thick rimmed glasses, sandy blonde hair and a fedora hat. I raised an eyebrow and smiled at him. "I'm Patrick. I think it's really odd that they spoke to you." He said as he walked over to me.

"Why do you say that?" I asked curiously.

"They hate everyone." He laughed as if it was the most known fact ever.

"Oh okay, are they nice people? They asked me to sit with them at lunch." I told him.

He began laughing. "Oh no they're Satan's minions." He shrugged. "If I were you I'd steer clear of them but it's your choice obviously. If you find out what kinda people they are then you're welcome to join me and my friends." He smiled and walked off to class.

Maybe not everyone is a total jackass then. I walked off to my first class, math. Ew. I hate math. The day seemed to drag in but when lunch rolled around I felt a little relieved. Most people just ignored me because it's easier to ignore the new kid instead of actually trying to get to know them.

I walked towards the lunchroom and noticed Vic and his brother Mike standing with two other guys. One had a SnapBack on and long black hair. The other had spiked black hair and seemed extremely hyper. I noticed a girl walk up to them who seemed super trashy, she flirted with Vic but he didn't seem interested at all. He yawned then said something to her and she walked away, anger covering her face. The rest of the guys laughed and then turned their attention to me as I walked up. "Is this her?" One said to them.

"Yeah." Mike said to them.

"I'm glad you decided to join us." Vic said to me in a strange tone. I can't tell if he's talking to me like I'm an idiot or he's trying to be nice to me. "This is Jaime and Tony." He pointed out.

"Hey, I'm Scarlett." I said softly, beginning to feel kinda self conscious.

They didn't say anything, just nodded and we walked into the cafeteria. Suddenly the noise died down when we walked in. That's weird. I followed the guys over to a table that a few kids were sitting at. "Move." Vic said sternly. The kids grabbed their bags and scurried off. Not a word was said.

I sat down across from Vic and Jaime, in between Tony and Mike. "So Scarlett, where did you move from?" Jaime asked, pulling a sandwich out of his bag.

"New York." I replied softly. Vic nodded and stared at me.

"How sweet, we have a New Yorker in our presence guys." He laughed. I don't see what's funny about that but what can I really do. I felt so uncomfortable where I was. Vic pulled a can of Pepsi out of his bag and opened it.

Suddenly a kid walked past the table and Mike tripped the kid up. The kids tray of food went flying across the hall and everyone began laughing at him. He looked like a freshman aswell, how cruel are they guys. I quickly stood up and helped the kid up. "Hey are you okay." I asked him. His cheeks flushed red and he nodded as he picked up his stuff and ran away.

I turned back to the group of guys who were laughing at the kid. Vic crossed his arms over his chest, looking totally unimpressed by my actions. "Why'd you do that Scarlett?" He questioned, the guys laughter died down and the attention was on me.

In fact everyone in a class vicinity had their eyes and attention on us. "Because it was uncalled for to humiliate that kid." I told him, I wasn't ready to take his shit. He clearly doesn't have any respect for other people.

"Sorry didn't realise you were a totally boring asshole." He shrugged. His asshole friends began laughing at his comment.

"No you know what, I'm sorry that I even thought you guys might be nice, despite warnings from other people." I said as I picked my bag up off the floor and threw it on my back.

"Lost your chance to be our friend now I guess." Vic said it as if I should be sad about that.

"I'd rather be alone than be friends with bullies and assholes who have no respect for other people." I rolled my eyes and turned to walk away.

"Whore." I heard someone say and cough at the same time.

I turned around, laughing. I looked at Vic and he held his hands up and shook his head. "Wasn't me." He said innocently.

I smirked at him and walked over to the table again, leaning down and picking up his can of Pepsi. My instincts told me not to but he is clearly such a self absorbed asshole. I poured the remains of the can onto the top of his head. The soda poured down his face and onto his shirt, soaking him. "BITCH!" He screamed as the liquid made its way over his body.

I scrunched the can up and placed it on the table. "Go fuck yourself." I mumbled and walked away. I heard people laughing and began clapping. It gave me a small sense of pride that I stood up for myself but a small part of me knew this wouldn't be the end. There was no way in Hell that Vic was going to let me humiliate him in front of the whole school and him not react. Shit.

Lunch ended soon after that and I ran to class, sitting down in my English class I sat at the back alone and was shocked to see Patrick, the guy from earlier walk in and sit next to me. "Okay, you're the most badass girl I've met in my whole life. The way you stuck up for that kid and poured soda all over Vic Fuentes was amazing. Can I please be your friend?" He gushed at me.

I blushed a little at his words. He seemed like a really nice guy. "I feel like I might've took it too far. What if he hates me now and begins picking on me?" I felt a little stupid.

"You can clearly handle yourself girl." He smiled and pulled his books out. I noticed Jaime walk into the class. He scanned the room and noticed me, giving me a horrible look. He walked past me and nudged my arm slightly. I looked up and flipped him off.

"Asshole." I mumbled under my breath.

School finished quickly and I ran to my locker to get the rest of my stuff before going home. I closed my locker and my heart stopped when i found Vic standing behind my locker when I closed it. His hair was messy and wet, making me giggle a little. "Why are you laughing?" He asked with a hint of confusion but also like he had something planned?

"I like your hair, it suits you." I smirked back at him. He didn't expect me to play along. He squinted his eyes at me.

"You're gonna regret being like this to me. I'm gonna give you one last chance to make it up to me." He winked at me.

"Gross." I made a disgusted face.

"Oh like you could get any better." He rolled his eyes. "Getting an offer from me is probably the best you'll ever get." He folded his arms across his chest.

"And even then I'm rejecting you, gotta hurt eh?" I winked at him. He was fuming at my attitude. I guess he doesn't like anyone treating him the way he treats them. "Dish it but can't take it huh?" I cocked my head to the side. "Well maybe it's because you're not a real man, you're just a little boy." I shrugged and began walking away.

I felt him grab my arm and pull me back, slamming me into the locker. "Hey don't talk to me like that. I'm trying to be nice here." He faked being hurt. There's no way he's actually trying to be nice to me, plus he just slammed me into a locker.

"Well hurting a girl isn't exactly nice is it?" I asked him, pulling my arm out of his grip.

"Say what you want, but I know for a fact you'll be desperate for this soon. There's only so long you can deny yourself. And you're such a goody two shoes that you can't let yourself go." He got closer to me, placing one hand behind my head on the locker to lean on and hold himself up. I looked at the floor avoiding eye contact.

"You know nothing about me." I mumbled, unable to make eye contact with him.

"Sure I do. You're a sweet geeky girl who likes music and can't accept that the world isn't such a nice place. You think that people should always care and be nice to each other. #Antibullying." He mocked me.

"Yes of course, that's me right down to a T." I rolled my eyes.

"If it wasn't you wouldn't look so damn depressed now." He smirked at me. I looked up at him tried to walk away but he pushed me back against the locker with his free hand.

"Are you gonna let me go? I have to get home." I said sternly.

"I just want you to know you've made a huge mistake, and you're gonna regret it. I will make your last year of high school a living nightmare. But I did give you a chance." He pushed himself off the locker and began walking away. What a freaking asshole.
