Hold On Till May

Fast Times At Clairemont High

Julia’s POV

It was nice to be a senior, but sometimes, I just can’t handle the heat. People asking for autographs, guys hitting on me, and of course the bullies who think they’re the shit. It’s just all too much. I can’t eat lunch peacefully, I can’t walk a single step in this school without being judged or being chased for an autograph. You get used to it though. I’m not saying I like the fame, it’s just that when your brother is a hot Mexican dude covered in tattoos and plays in Pierce The Veil, life gets hectic and you have to keep going.

I continued to walk down the hall keeping my thoughts to myself. I shielded my face and tried to keep my sunglass on. I just wanted to make it to the office without dying so I could get my schedule for the semester.

So many hands trying to grab me god damnit. I’m so tired of swatting at hands. Maybe I should just tell them to leave me alone. Like that would work, they’re never gonna stop. I mean I could try, but it probably won’t work.

I stopped dead in my tracks. Everyone stopped to look at me. I held my hand up and they all backed away to give me space.
“Listen up!” I shouted as loud as I could. “I’ll give you what you want at lunch tomorrow if you leave me alone today.” My voice softened to a regular volume. I heard different people start shouting.
“We want your autographs!”
“I came to school early to see you!”
“Give it to us now!”

I held up my hand again. Everyone became quiet.
“Leave me alone, and I’ll give 50 people autographs tomorrow at lunch. If you don’t leave me alone, I’ll transfer to Mission Bay High. Your choice.” I tried to make myself clear. Everyone started to walk away.

Finally. But tomorrow’s lunch is going to be a bitch. I’m not usually a bitch to people, but this time I had to because I need my space just like any other high school kid would want. What really sucks about my senior year though… I can’t have any friends. People take advantage of me. I end up getting hurt in the end no matter what. I only really trust Tony, Vic, Mike, and Jaime. Before that was not the case though. Tony and I were abandoned by our parents. It really sucks. I can’t enjoy things like prom and grad night with my friends.

I started walking down the hall again. I reached the office and went to the counselor’s desk.
“I’m here to get my schedule.”

The lady at the desk looked at me with a rude expression.
“You were supposed to pick that up yesterday.”

I eyed her through my sunglasses.
“Look Miss….erm… I’m sorry, what’s your name?”

“Johnson.” She replied with a tone.

“Ms. Johnson, I couldn’t be here yesterday for very specific reasons, that were organized with the office my freshman year.” I emphasized the “freshman” part. “You’re new working here, am I right?”

She gave me a confused look.
“Yes I am. What’s your name?” She questioned.

“Juliana Perry Soto.” I pronounced my name in the Spanish way, the correct way.

“Ah yes, Ms. Perry. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. I am new here and I have heard about you, I just never saw your face in a picture or anything like that. I have your schedule right here.” She handed me a paper with my name on it.

“Thank you. Have a nice day.” I grabbed the paper out of her hand gently and turned towards the door to walk away while reading.

Teacher’s Assistant for first period… then anatomy, AP English, and Calculus… lunch… AP Econ and Gov fifth period… study hall…then a free period! Sounds great to me.

The bell rang to start walking to first period.
Today’s going to be a long day.
