"Hi Lauren!" I turned around as I walked out of the parking structure and saw Jaime standing a couple of feet away from where my mom and I were.
"Do you know him?" My mom quickly whispered as we got closer to him.
"Yes mom." I let out a chuckle as we stopped in front of him. "This is Jaime."
"Oh!" She said long enough as the name finally registered. "So this is him."
"It's me." Jaime said, answering her before placing his hand in front of my mom for her to shake. "Nice to finally meet you."
"Likewise. Well I'll leave you two alone, I'm going to go sign us in." My mom said before she quickly made the rest of the walk and stepped inside the hospital.
Once my mom was out of sight I turned to face Jaime and slid my arms through his and placed my cheek on his chest, hearing his heartbeat as I hugged him.
"Did you just get off work."
"Yup a couple minutes ago. Thought I'd stick around since I knew you were going to show up and I wanted to ask you something." I lifted my head from his chest and looked up at him.
"What's up?"
"I wanted to see if you wanted to go out with me, on a date?" I felt a smile creep onto my lips, growing wider as I looked at him.
"That sounds nice. When?"
"I know it's last minute but is tonight good?"
"Yes, that's fine with me."
"It's a date then." He said as he smiled at me, revealing his dimples. I got on my tippy toes and placed a kiss on his cheek.
"You're adorable."
"I try." He said as he took my hand in his and led us towards the hospital doors. "I'll walk you inside." We reached the main desk where Christina, one of older nurses sat. She recognized me as we approached her and handed over my visitor sticker.
"I'm going to go with check on my brother." I told Jaime as he chatted with the nurse. He nodded and returned the kiss on my cheek before I left his side and walked the familiar route to where Tommy's room was located. I rounded the corner and spotted my mom sitting in the waiting room.
"What happened?" I asked her as I stepped inside.
"Oh nothing, we just have to wait a couple of minutes. The nurses are checking up on him." I nodded and took the seat besides her.
"So you like this boy?" My mom asked, wasting no time.
"Um-" I started to say but she gave me a look knowing well I was going to try to deny it.
"Is it that obvious?"
"Just a little bit. I've never seen you light up this much around someone."
"I light up?!You're crazy."
"No I'm your mother and I can tell these things." She said making us both laugh.
"Ok, ok. I guess I do like him, really, really like him." I felt my cheeks heat up and I shrugged my shoulders before continuing. "I mean I only know him for a little over two weeks but something about him makes me feel...safe? Does that make sense?"
"Makes perfect sense. Just be careful Lauren, I don't want you getting hurt."
"I will mom, don't worry."

"Where is he?!" We heard the familiar voice coming from the other end of the hall making us both get up. We hurried up to the door just in time to see a petite girl with a big pregnant belly pass in front of us.
"Emily!" I shout as we follow her. She turns around and I notice the tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Oh Lauren!" She says as she walks back towards us and starts to cry even more at the sight of us."How's Tommy? I knew something was wrong, I could just feel it when I was in Arizona. I tried to get here sooner but I wasn't feeling good and my parents made me stay." she said through her sniffles.
"It's ok sweetie, you came as soon as you could." My mom rubbed her arm to comfort her before leading us to the nurse's station in front of Tommy's room. Emily left our side and quickly walked straight to the door and peeked inside.
"What are they doing to him?!" She shouted and tried to open the door but was quickly stopped by one of the nurses close by.
"Ma'am you can't go in there."
"Why not, that's my husband in there! I need to go in."
"No, it's not healthy for you or your baby to go in there." The nurse told her but Emily looked like she wouldn't budge, she was determined to see Tommy. Before she can get the chance to argue again Dr. Thompson comes rushing towards the door and gets in between the two of them.
"I got here as soon as I could." He said panting before quickly going into the room.
"What's going on?" My mom quickly asked the nurse when the door closed. She stepped closer to the door to follow the doctor but the nurse stopped her.
"I'm sorry Mrs. Smith no visitors at the moment."
"What why?" The nurse moved both my mom and Emily towards the station to talk to them. I left their side and walked to where the nurse once stood, letting myself peer through the window. I feel my knees buckle as I notice Tommy on the bed looking almost pale as a group of nurses and the doctor crowd around his hospital bed and continue to poke and check his vitals. I hear the nurse speak besides me, taking it all in. I feel tears start to build up and I shake my head as they start to come crashing down. I push myself away from the door and start to run away from the area leaving my mom and Emily behind. I run through the maze of hallways in the hospital as my heart starts to pump faster. I hear nothing but a ring in my ears as I continue to run with blurry eyes. I see someone approach me but I don't stop running until I feel my body crash into theirs. I try to push through them to get out of the hospital but feel their hands on my arms bringing me to a complete stop. I blink a couple of times to clear my vision and that's when I notice Jaime in front of me, holding me. When his face comes into a complete clear view I feel myself break down in his arms, as I slide down to the floor as he continues to hold me. He starts to rub my back and rock me as I continue to cry into his chest.
