Darling, You'll Be Okay..

-Mike-

I watched the TV, mindlessly.
Beside me, Jenna snoozed under the blankets.
I eased out of bed, so not to wake her.
I walked downstairs, where the sun was just barely rising over the trees.
I glanced at the clock on the microwave, it read 7:32am.
I poured myself a bowl of cereal, and sat at the island in the kitchen.
I stared down into my cereal bowl, picking the marshmallows out of my lucky charms and stirring the rest around.
Today was Sunday, and the day I left for tour.
I heard light footsteps, and saw Jenna in the doorway.
“Morning.” She whispered, pressing her soft lips to my bristly cheek.
“How’d you sleep?” I asked, looking her up and down.
“Great.” She was in her favorite Minnie Mouse pajama pants, and my blue drop dead sleeveless shirt, her bra peeking out of the oversized armholes.
“When are you leaving?” She asked, rebraiding her brown wavy hair.
“Nine.” I replied, finishing my cereal.
She smiled so sweetly, “Well, I’m gonna miss you Mike.” She whispered, putting her arms around me.
I nodded, and kissed the top of her head, “I’m gonna miss you too Jenna.”
“Just don’t go kissing any other pretty girls, okay?”
I laughed, “I’d never dream of it babe. You’re the only pretty girl I want.”
She just rolled her eyes, “Are you all packed?”
I nodded.
“Got clean socks?”
I nodded.
“Underwear?”
Again, I signaled a nod.
“Toothbrush?”
I smiled, and pressed my lips to hers, “Jenn, I’m fine. I’ve got everything I need, don’t worry.”
“I just don’t want you calling me from the road saying you forgot your electric razor again.”
“I came home from that tour looking like John Lennon.” I joked.
“You looked more like a hippie than usual.” Jenna whispered, cuddling into my neck.
“You liked it.”
“My lumberjack man.” She mumbled against my neck.
Upstairs, my phone rang.
“That’ll be Vic, asking if I’m ready.”
She put my bowl in the sink, “You’d better go tell him you are.”
I walked up the stairs and picked my phone up off the table beside the bed.
“Hello?” I asked.
“You up and ready?” Vic sounded half-asleep.
“Yeah. Just finished breakfast, Jenna is coming with me to see us off.”
“Good, I’ll make sure Jaime is on his best behavior.” Vic laughed.
“I thought that was Jess’s job.”
“She’s out of town on work business.”
“Alright, we’ll be there in twenty minutes.”
I hung up and walked downstairs.

“You’re coming along to see us off.” I called into the kitchen.
“Why wasn’t I informed of this earlier?” She called back.
“What, you don’t want to go?”
She came out of the kitchen, damp hair hanging around her waist, “Well, the sink just attacked me.”
I laughed, “What the hell do you mean “Attacked you?”
“I was trying to wash the dishes, and then the faucet just started spraying me.”
I laughed and went into the kitchen, where a stream of water shot out of the place from where the faucet should’ve been.
“I’ll call a plumber, and then Vic to tell him I’ll be late.”
She wrapped her hair in a towel, “I’d make a hopless housewife, you know.”
I laughed, and wrapped my arms around her small waist, kissing her, “Not a chance. You’d make a perfect housewife.”
She kissed my nose, “Why haven’t you popped the question yet then?”
I rolled my eyes, “Because Jenna, I’m 27, you’re 26, we’re not ready to be married. We’ve only been dating for almost two years now. Not near long enough to marry. But don’t doubt for a second that I don’t want to marry you, because I do, and when the time is right, I will.”
She just pushed my hair out of my face, “Call the plumber before we have a swimming pool in our kitchen.”
I dialed the number, and it rang, “Martinez Plumbing Specialists, David speaking.”
“Good morning, how are you?”
“Fine sir, and yourself?”
I chuckled, “Not good, honestly. My kitchen sink is spraying a five foot stream of water from the faucet.”
“Hm, that doesn’t sound like such a great start to the day,” He laughed, “I’ll send someone out to have a look. What’s the address?”
“3537 Morena Boulevard.”
“Alright, and what’s your name?”
“Michael Fuentes.”
“Okay, we’ll have someone out there in no less than ten minutes.”
“Thank you sir.”
I heard the door open, and Vic’s voice floated into the kitchen, “Mike?”
“Sorry I’m running late bro. We have a slight situation in the kitchen.” I nodded over my shoulder.
Vic peered into the kitchen, “Oh shit.”
“I just got off the phone with a plumber, they’ll have someone here in ten minutes. Sorry Vic, but I wasn’t just going to leave Jenna in this mess by herself.
Vic shook his head, “No worries, I’m not mad, I’m actually glad you’re not leaving her in a swimming pool with a built in fridge.”
Jenna standing close by, toweling her hair, laughed.
“I can have a cold soda without having to get out of the water.” She laughed.
While she dried off, and changed clothes, Vic and I attempted to figure out how to cease the water.
Finally, as we were about to give up, the doorbell rang.
Jenna, now dressed in denim shorts, and her pink cami answered.
“I’m Luis Martinez, from Martinez Plumbing Specialists. We got a call about a sink spraying water, from a Michael Fuentes.”
“Come on in, I’m Mike’s girlfriend Jenna.”
I entered the room, “I’m Mike, the kitchen’s through that door.”
The man walked in, “Ha, easy, your faucet broke off, your whole line needs replacing.”
“Can you replace it?” Jenna asked, her baby blue eyes full of worry.
“Of course, but I’ll need to go out to the alley and turn off the water to the whole house so I can. I’ll be right back.”
“Well, I guess this is a great way to start the day.” Vic teased.
“Oh yeah, I’m sure Jenna loves being soaked in her pajamas.”
“Well, I’ve had worse mornings, but that’s okay.” Jenna chuckled.
Luis returned, “I got the water turned off, and this will take me about an hour, so if you guys need to use the bathroom or shower, I’d kindly suggest you do it elsewhere.”
Jenna smiled, “No worries, these boys were just leaving anyway, and I can go down the street and use Vic’s bathroom.”
“Here’s a better idea, why don’t you come with us Jenn?” Vic suggested.
“Someone’s gotta be here when Mr. Martinez gets finished with our plumbing issue.” Jenna said.
“We’re not leaving until after he’s finished.” I interjected.
Jenna looked back and forth between us and sighed, “I’ll go get a bag together.”
Vic smiled, “Why didn’t she want to come with us anyway?”
“She was afraid she’d be in the way.” I shrugged.
“Not a chance. People bring their girlfriends along on tour all the time. It’s no big deal.”
“Hey, you guys are in that band of Mexicans. Pierce The Veils?” Luis asked in his thick Spanish accent.
I nodded, “That would be us.”
Luis smiled and fistbumped me, “Bad ass. My kid brother and I love that band. You guys have really changed the game for post-hardcore. Mexican style.”
“That was our goal, was to make a new kind of music that was the same as what you hear, but at the same time, a blend of our Mexican roots, and our post-hardcore outershell.”
“I like it.” Luis grinned.
Jenna came downstairs with two suitcases, “I’m all packed. What do you say we give Luis here some space to work, and we go down and visit your mom. That way I can ask her to keep an eye on Sirius while we’re gone.”
“Where is the cat, anyway?”
“He’s asleep on the guest bed.” Jenna said.
“Come on, let’s walk down to mom’s.” Vic called.
“We’ll be back in an hour Luis.” Jenna called.
“Alright, I’ll have this fixed up for you.”
We walked down the street to my parent’s house.
Jenna walked in first, and was greeted by my father, and my nephew, Kyle.
“Morning Ms. Jenna.” Kyle said.
“Hey Ky, where’s your dad?”
“Work. Mom’s out of town on work business, so I’m staying here.”
“Awesome.”
“What brings you by?” My father asked.
“Jenna is going on tour with us, so we were going to ask if you and mom could keep an eye on Sirius.”
He nodded, “Sure.”
“We had a plumbing issue down at our house, so could I borrow your shower?” Jenna asked.
“Of course, what’s the issue?”
“Our faucet in the kitchen broke, and shot a stream of water five foot high. The plumber’s over there fixing it now, he had to turn off the water to the house.”
“These older houses are prone to problems like that.” My dad nodded.
“Did I hear Jenna?” My mother came out of the kitchen, wiping her hands on a towel.
“She’s in the shower. She’s going on tour with us.”
“That’s wonderful, did you need me to keep an eye on Sirius?”
I nodded, “If you would, please.”
“You boys hungry? I made breakfast.” Mom said.
“Starved, the other’s will be here in about ten minutes, but we’re not leaving until the plumbing is fixed at my house.”
“What happened?” Mom asked.
“Faucet broke.” Vic said.
“These old houses.” Mom muttered.

Jenna, freshly showered, walked in.
“Hi Jenna.” My mother beamed.
“Hello Vivian.” Jenna huggedher.
“I hear you’re going on tour with these boys.”
Jenna nodded, “For some reason, they want me to go.”
“Well all of you be safe, you hear, I don’t to have to bury another son anytime soon.”
She was referring to mine and Vic’s oldest brother Frank, who lost his battle with cancer last summer.
Jenna smiled sympathetically, and hugged her, “I’ll take care of them, and personally see to it that they all make it back to you safe and sound.”
Mom smiled, “Thank you Jenna.”
“We’d better get back to the house and check on Luis. He should be finishing up.” I said.
Jenna picked up her phone and headed out the door.
“We’ll be back in a little bit to say bye.” I said, walking out the front door.
I followed her down the street.
Luis was finishing up inside, “Well that should do it guys. The bill is on the table.”
“Thank you Luis.” Jenna called.
She kissed me, “Let’s go get things cleaned up, the boys will be here any minute.”
We straightened up the house and grabbed the rest of the luggage just as Tony and Jaime showed up.
“Jenna, you’re coming along?” Jaime asked.
She nodded, “Yeah, I haven’t come along in a long time, and I miss tour life.”
“Radical!” Jaime crowed.
“Where’s Jessica?” I asked.
“Out of town.” Jaime reminded me.
“That’s right.” I nodded.
“Well, be ready for as little sleep, and peace and quiet as possible.” Tony said.
“Hello, I live with Michael Fuentes, I already don’t get sleep OR peace and quiet.”
I laughed and hugged her, “You love me baby.”
She smiled her perfect smile and kissed me, “I do.”
“We ready to go?” Chris asked.
“Let’s go.” I said.
