3 Dates With Jaime
Fresh Meat
P.S. This story is in one POV
A flood of emotions took over me as I got into my room. After closing the door behind me I collapsed on my bed and squealed into my pillow, kicking my legs with excitement. Once some of the excitement died down, I stared up at the ceiling and gave myself a pinch on the elbow to make sure it wasn't all a dream. I put my hand to my mouth and remembered that perfect kiss. It felt like I was floating, it was so gentle and sweet. I will never forget that feeling, the feeling of love.
It all started on a beautiful Sunday morning, the sun was out, the birds were singing. I yawned and stretched my arms out. I popped into the shower and dried myself with a towel. Mike barged in without knocking and I quickly covered myself up. 'Mike!' 'Sorry, can I borrow one of your snap-backs?', he asked, sorting through my hats in my drawer. I rolled my eyes and tied the towel around me. 'See, you wouldn't have to borrow my clothes all the time if you got a job', I complained. But Mike wasn't listening. 'Aha!', he said, holding up my best cap. He put it on backwards and swaggered out of the room. I was so sick of him taking my stuff and living off of me but there was nothing I could do.
I got dressed bitterly and made my way to the kitchen for some breakfast. I walked down through the hallway and into the living room. Mike on the couch watching The Simpsons. I shook my head and got into the kitchen and made myself a bowl of cheerios. I sat on the couch opposite Mike and ate. 'Hey, Mike. The whole taco stand thing is getting me some real cash so-' 'Are we getting a bigger house?', he interrupted excitedly. I flinched a little when he said 'we'. 'No, Mike. I can make them taste better. Those things are full of giblets!', I laughed. He flared his nostrils in disgust. 'I had one yesterday!', he cried. 'Well, business is business', I shrugged. I washed my bowl in the sink once I was done. Mike went past the kitchen and opened the front door.
'Hey, wait. I need to use the car. Where are you off too?', I asked.
‘To Tony’s place, where are you going?’, he said.
‘The butcher’
‘Let’s go’
We got into my secondhand Volkswagen pickup. I was in the driver’s seat while Mike was in the passenger’s. ‘Why can’t I drive?’, he complained. ‘I don’t want you getting my car totaled AGAIN!’, I said irritably as I put the key in the ignition. I dropped him off at Tony’s place and made my way into town. I arrived at the butchery. There was a big sign on top of the grey building which read: JAIME’S BUTCHERY. I opened the door and was welcomed by the scent of cold meat. There was a cluster of posters which had all sorts of specials.
There were white and black tiles which reminded me of my kitchen. I seemed to be the only one there and I made my way to the jolly man standing behind a display of some fresh cuts.
‘Good day. The name’s Jaime’, he greeted.
For some strange reason I felt nervous. I just couldn't return the same cheerfulness. I gave an awkward smile instead. ‘Um, I would like to make an order for beef and chicken’, I said anxiously. He had dark hair that was all over the place, what seemed to be a tiny slit instead of a mouth and a fish hook for a nose. All these extreme features were held together by his tender eyes that stared straight through my soul. My heart was in my throat and I felt like knew what I looked like naked or something.
'What's the occasion?', he asked.
'I've got a little taco business', I said smugly. He looked genuinely impressed.
'Can I have your number', he said. I was a little shocked but then I remembered why.
'No problem', I said. I gave him my number and jotted it down on a note pad in sloppy unreadable handwriting.
'Name?'
'Victor', I said. He wrote Victor underneath the numbers. He suddenly looked up from his note pad.
'Victor's Tacos, right. My cousin said I should try those'
'Yeah, I could get you one for free if you'd like', I suggested, feeling a little less nervous.
'Oh, that's so nice of you', he smiled. When he smiled, there were about a million smiling lines that showed up in his face. He was so interesting and so handsome.
Eventually, I payed and I was on my way out.
'Have a good day!', he yelled as I opened the door. I smiled and waved back at him and made my way to the parking lot. I was in a wonderful mood. I bet I'd made a new friend that moment. I started up my car and drove over to Tony's to join him and Mike. Tony's doorbell had been broken for a while so I just knocked a few times. When there was no answer, I just opened the door and got in.
'Hey, guys!', I called in the empty living room. 'They must have gone', I thought. But I heard some noises. I went a little closer to the kitchen where they were coming from.
