A Match Into Water

Chapter Twenty Two

For the next week and a half, I spent my time trying to convince everyone- including myself -that I was fine while also doing my best to forget about the phone call from the hospital. Fortunately for me, everyone was either too busy to notice I was putting up an act or just believed that I was fine altogether, which was great, except for the one time Jaime found me balled up in the corner of the bus late at night crying my eyes out and cradling a bottle of Jameson.

Yeah, that wasn’t really a good night for either of us.

Other than that small incident, life carried on normally for everyone involved with the tour. And speaking of, the tour itself was close to ending. There were still quite a handful of shows left to perform, but once those were over with, we’d all have a week off until we completed the rest of the tour over in Europe. Of course, none of the bands currently touring with us would be boarding with us on our flight to the UK, but I was more than okay with that. Yeah, I’d miss the guys with Sleeping With Sirens, but I was more than happy to part ways with the Deaf Lions crew- minus Alexis, of course.

But, for right now, most of us weren’t thinking about how close the end of the tour seemed to be coming or even about the tour in general. Today was a rare day for us, and it put this almost unexplained buzz of excitement in the air.

Today was the day we all finally had a day off from touring.

Sure, we’d had a day or two in between shows earlier on the tour, but those were always spent on the road trying to cover the lengthy distance between some of the venues. Today, we were already at our next stop, so we all had a day to ourselves to go exploring and whatnot. Despite how excited and relieved I felt about having a day off, I was still in a bit of a funk. The hospital call was still lingering in the back of my mind, and it was distracting me from everything else going on around me. I didn’t know what to do about it in all honesty. In theory, I should be telling someone about what happened or even report it to the police, but it doesn’t help that all the evidence I have to offer is a positive rape kit and the event witnessed by my semi-conscious mind.

“Morning, Darling,” Vic greeted, snapping me out of my thoughts and causing me to look over at him. A bright smile was stretched across his face as he entered the front lounge, plopping down next to me on the couch and pressing a quick kiss on my cheek.

“Hey,” I replied absentmindedly, blinking once or twice as I came back down to Earth and tried to force any stray thoughts to the back of my mind.

Vic picked up on my empty tone and his eyebrows scrunched together in a mixture of both curiosity and worry. “You alright, Dean?” he asked.

“Yeah, just fine,” I reassured, offering up a small smile to prove my point. “I was just thinking about something.”

“What about?” Vic questioned, all signs of worry seeping from his face as it turned to mere curiosity.

Rolling my eyes a bit playfully, I shook my head a little before saying, “It’s nothing important, don’t worry about it.” Vic smiled a bit at that, rolling his eyes a little as well, but started to pout once I made a move to get up.

“Wait, no, don’t leave,” he half whined, grabbing my hand and trying to pull me closer to him. I couldn’t help but laugh at that and look over at Vic with a curious, raised eyebrow.

“I was just going to get up and get some orange juice or something,” I told him, reassuring him that I wasn’t legitimately leaving and also amused at how clingy he was being.

“Yeah but, I don’t know, can’t you just stay and chill here for, like, a couple minutes or whatever?” he begged, his pout turning into what had to be the most pathetic set of puppy dog eyes I had ever seen.

And by pathetic, I mean adorable. Who could resist that look anyway?

“Fine, but only for a couple of minutes,” I joked, settling back down into the couch and cuddling up next to his side. “Anything longer than that, Fuentes, and I’m calling the cops.”

An amused chuckle escaped his lips and Vic’s face fell into a small, relaxed smile. “Uh huh, sure you will,” he said, wrapping his arm around me and bringing me into his side.

“You wanna bet?” I mock challenged, looking up at him with a playful smirk.

“Depends on what we’re betting,” Vic threw right back, waggling his eyebrows suggestively. I couldn’t help but let out another laugh at his silly antics and- very maturely and lovingly -tell him to kindly shut up.

“So, what’s the plan for today?” I asked after a couple beats had passed. “The crew or the guys have anything special planned out?”

Vic shrugged in response. “Not that I know of. The only plan I had for today was relaxing and spending it with you.”

I felt my cheeks heat up a bit at his words, but I still smiled nonetheless. “Sounds like a great set of plans,” I say, leaning up to plant a quick kiss on his cheek.

A pleased hum came from the back of his throat along with a lazy smile that stretched across his face. Vic looked down at me for a moment, leaning in to properly kiss me as he replied, “Of course they’re great, I came up with them myself.”

Despite not wanting to ruin the moment, I couldn’t help but burst into a fit of giggles at his words, lightly kissing him for a moment before murmuring, “God, you’re such a dork.”

An amused chuckle fell from his lips, and if I’d been looking, I’m sure I would have seen Vic roll his eyes a little. “Yeah, but I’m your dork,” he told me, not wasting anymore time as he finally captured my lips with his.

I hummed in agreement at the final statement, not wanting to interrupt the moment with unnecessary words. The two of us continued to lay together on the couch and exchange blissful kisses with each other, surprisingly not having to deal with any of the other guys on the bus walking in on us. The moment seemed like it could last forever, but suddenly, Vic’s eyes shot open and he quickly pulled away to look at my confused expression.

“Do you know what I just realized?” Vic asked me, suddenly very excited about something.

“That you still haven’t let me get my orange juice today?”

Vic snorted at the comment and rolled his eyes a little, not missing a beat as he continued. “No, not that- though, I promise to get you some in a minute. But anyways, I just realized that I haven’t taken you out on a proper date yet!”

That was, in fact, quite true, though I hadn’t really given it much thought. Both of us have been busy since we’d gotten together, and I had been more than fine with just going on ‘lunch dates’ with Vic every time we had the chance. “True,” I admit with a shrug, “but what’s your point?”

My boyfriend’s lips turned up in a bit of smirk as looked down at me and tucked a stray piece of hair behind my ear. “Dean Manchester, will you go on a date with me?”

An uncontrollable grin made it’s way across my face as an unexplained burst of joy erupted inside of me. I immediately wanted to tell him yes, and I would have done just as much if a certain bass player that we all know and love hadn’t burst into the front lounge whilst making a scene.

“You two lovebirds better be fully clothed in here!” Jaime shouts out as he strolls into the front lounge, one hand covering his eyes while his shouts probably gathered the attention of all of China. “And don’t you be doing nothing nasty out here- we all use that couch too, you know.”

Vic let out a small groan of annoyance while I just sat there and rolled my eyes. Leave it to Jaime to ruin a moment by being a full fledged drama queen. I looked over at said drama queen, who refused to uncover his eyes as he continued his path through the lounge towards the bus’s kitchen, and with a sigh said, “Jaime, you can uncover your eyes-”

“Uh uh,” he countered, holding out his free hand and wagging his index finger in what he probably presumed to be the general direction of my face. “No way, I’m not taking the chance of seeing you two making babies on the- shit!”

Not only was Jaime’s colorful expletive released due to him stubbing his toe and tripping over of the side tables, but Vic had also taken the opportunity to whip one of the throw pillows towards the spiky-haired bass player in an attempt to shut him up.

Vic ended up finding this quite amusing, but while he was letting out small little snickers next to me, I just sat there as my face turned about as red as a tomato. Sex wasn’t necessarily an uncomfortable topic for me to talk about, but given the current circumstances and the fact that Vic hadn’t even been dating for a long period of time, it just felt weird to talk about. “Jaime, did you need something?” I ask, desperately trying to change the current subject.

Still grumbling about his toe, he looked up and sent a small glare at Vic before looking at me. His face suddenly brightened up, almost as if he was finally remembering why he ran into the front lounge in the first place. “Oh yeah, right!” he excitedly exclaimed, rushing over and pulling me up from the couch. “I need to borrow you for about an hour-”

“What? No,” Vic complained, reaching out and pulling me back towards his chest. I fell from Jaime’s grip and onto Vic’s lap, his warm arms wrapping around my waist while his chin rested on the top of my shoulder. “She’s staying here, Himes-”

Jaime groaned in annoyance and crossed his arms as he gave my boyfriend as rather pointed look. “Dude, you’re going to have her for practically the entire day,” he tried to reason. “Not only is this important, but Dean’s my friend and I would like to spend time with her.”

“I had her first,” Vic stubbornly grumbled, his arms tightening around my middle. I couldn’t help but chuckle at his persistence, and while it was cute and I would love nothing more than to spend a lazy with Vic, Jaime did say this was important, and if he wanted me to come along, I might as well go.

“Vic, babe, it’s just an hour,” I tell him, already working on unhooking his arms from around me. “You can live without me for that long while I go help Jaime with whatever he needs.”

Now it was Vic’s turn to groan and he buried his face against my shoulder, his brown curls gathering up at the top of my back. “But I-”

“Yes Victor?” I ask with a smirk, coaxing another groan from my boyfriend as he grumbled a few unintelligible things against the soft fabric of my shirt. A few light laughs tumbled from my lips at his behavior, finally getting up from his lap and smoothing out my shirt before looking at the pitiful look Vic was giving me. “I’m going with Jaime, but we’ll be back soon” I reassure him, “then we’ll hang out as much as you want, alright? Besides, I’m pretty sure I was just about to agree to this date you asked me on before we were rudely interrupted, so just spend this time getting whatver you have planned for tonight together.”

Vic chuckled a little at my words, but let out a small sigh of defeat and nodded in response. “Alright,” he spoke, getting up from the couch and planting a quick kiss on my lips. “Just be safe.”

I rolled my eyes a little, but smiled back in response. “I’ll be fine, Vic,” I tell him. “What the worst thing that’ll happen?”

“Nothing too bad,” Jaime pipes up, smiling innocently as he grabs my arm and pulls me towards the door. “Don’t worry Vic, we’ll be fine!”

Vic laughed as he watched the two of us go, throwing out an empty, mock threat towards Jaime as we left the bus. I barely had enough time to grab the pair of shoes I left by the door before we were out on the street, the door closing behind us. I made Jaime stop for a moment so I could put on my old, worn-down Vans before straightening up and looking towards the bass player with a curious glance. “So, what the plan, Hime-Time?”

Jaime just smiled and shook his head. “Not telling just yet, it’s a surprise,” he tells me, his dimples showing as he spoke.

I huffed a bit in annoyance and crossed my arms. “Jaime, you know how I feel about surprises-”

“I know, but trust me, you’re going to like this one,” he reassures, flashing me another brilliant smile.

It took me a moment, but after thinking it over for a few moments, I let out a sigh and unfolded my arms. “Alright, fine,” I say, “but you have to buy me some coffee and orange juice on the way there.”

Jaime just nods and throws an arm over my shoulder, leading me towards the city to go wherever he wanted us to go. “Whatever you want, Princess.”

Notes

Well everyone, even though these updates have been rather inconsistent and I haven't been the best author ever, it's officially been one year since I started this story! One year! Truthfully, I was hoping to be a lot further along with this story after working on it for so long, but I'm a bit of a good place with it, and even though my updates take twelve million years sometimes, I think it's quality content that's worth the wait (most of the time anyway).

I'd just like to say thank you to all of you who have been reading this story and supporting me. You all are so incredibly kind, and even though this isn't the best story the site has to offer, you still love it and support it, and that really does mean the world to me. I don't think I could ever express how truly grateful to have all of you here with me as I write this story, but I hope this simple "thank you" will do.

Now, speaking of updates, I do apologize for this particular one being so short. I have been working hard on trying to get out a rather long update out for all of you, but it's not quite done yet, so what I've decided to do is give you all at least this update and another one in about a day or so, just to breathe a bit of life back into this story. There's going to be a lot of fluff coming in the story's near future (just because there's been enough problems for Dean at the moment), but if you're looking for the drama to come back, it may be here sooner than you would think.

Thank you so much again for all your guys' support (both the silent readers and vocal supporters)! I honestly can't thank you enough for anything, and hopefully, here's to another year of writing with you guys! Let's just hope that I'm closer to a sequel by then ;)

@traceytrac_
