Disenchanted Lullabye

The Cheap Bouquet

Miranda's POV

I had taken my time getting ready for this mysterious date I would be going on in less than an hour. I was casual but a pretty casual. I had on light jeans, lace-up galaxy Vans, which I treasured, a blue tank top with a grey sweater and grey beanie stuffed into my back pocket in case we were outside and it got windy. I thought I looked good enough for a mildly fancy dinner but casual enough for a night of random fun.

I did some simple makeup and curled my hair just a small bit and killed some time by playing COD. By the time I was getting aggrivated, a knock on my door told me it was time to go. I was starting to get nervous. This would be the first date I've been on in about five years. What if I made a fool of myself? What if I didn't talk enough? What if I talked too much?! So many things I had to be aware of before going out with him along with the worry in the back of my head of Chris appearing out of nowhere and ruining everything.

I took a deep inhale and exhaled before opening the door.

"Oh wow, hey." Jaime said, whipping around to look at me with a slightly nervous smile. I was glad we were feeling the same way.

"Hey" I said and let him in. "I just have to grab a few things, okay?" He nodded and I went to my room before drooling over myself. He was wearing dark jeans with a black dress shirt that he had rolled up to his elbows. He looked just perfect. I can see now why everyone oogled over him.

I spritzed on a bit of perfume and calmed down before walking out with a smile. "Ready?" I asked and he nodded his head with a bright smile. I grabbed my keys and locked up before following him down to his car.

"You look great." He said as he opened the car door for me. I blushed and thanked him. Cute, funny and a gentleman... Would I ever get this lucky?

"Where are we going?" I asked as he got in and he smirked devilishly.

"Nope, it's a surprise." He said without looking at me. I both hated and like surprises.

We made some small talk during the drive to wherever he was taking me. He was an easy person to talk to and I was glad for that because in my earlier years, I wouldn't have said a word. I'm glad that I've broken out of my awkward shy shell to be able to speak almost freely to people.

"Ok, we're here." He said as he parked and looked over at me. I started laughing.

"Jaime.. Mini Golf?!" I said with a bright smile.

"Yeah, I thought it would be better than a boring dinner date." He chuckled softly but looked a little worried.

"I'm glad you didn't choose a boring dinner date, this is so much better." I smiled and hugged him. Much like everything in life; Awkward then comforting. We got out and walked up to the booth to pay. I pulled out my wallet to pay for myself but, with any guy, he told me to out it away. I hated letting him pay for me but it was a nice thing to do I suppose.

We grabbed our golf balls and clubs and went off to the first hole. This place was indoors and all blacklighted. I hadn't seen many places like this other than a bowling alley.
"Ready to get your butt whooped, pretty boy?" I smirked and nudged him and he smiled and shook his head.

"Ahh, the pretty lady has it all wrong." He winked and I could tell this would be an interesting night.

Jaime's POV

"What the hell do I even wear?!" I yelled from my room, fresh out of the shower. The guys were over for moral support, more or less.

"Just do something normal!" one of them yelled. I sighed, simple frustrated with myself. Now I know why girls freak out about this stuff. I wonder if Miranda is going through this too.

"Dude, seriously, you're leaving in an hour to pick her up and you still aren't ready?" Vic said while rummaging through my closet.

"Sorry, I just... I want tonight to go right. I haven't been on a date in forever and I don't know... I'm just freaking out." I sighed and watched as he laid out my clothes.

"Stop freaking out then. Just see this as hanging out. I know you like her a lot but you're over thinking it!" He chuckled and shook his head. "You'll be fine dude." He smiled and left me to get dressed.

He picked out my black button up and black jeans. Why couldn't I just do that?

I got dressed, fixed up my hair and went downstairs.

"Well look who decided to finally get dressed." Mike said from the back door with a cigarette in his hand. I rolled my eyes and grabbed a pair of shoes to put on.

"So where are you taking her?" Tony asked and the guys stared for an answer.

"I'm taking her to that mini golf place and then just walk the pier.. maybe get drinks after." I said while lacing up my shoes.

"Well, that sounds fun." Vic smiled and I nodded.

"I hope she likes that kind of stuff."

"She's a girl dude. She just wants you to think and put a little effort into stuff like this." Mike said with a chuckle and out out his cigarette and sat down with us.

"Well, she just doesn't seem like any usual girl. She just seems different than all of the others." I said as I got up to straighten myself out before I left.

"Alright, I'll talk to you guys later." I said with a deep exhale. "Please remember to lock up when you leave." I said before I walked out the door and to my car.

I drove over to her apartment in a nervous panic, tapping on my legs at every stop light and sign.

"God, I'm actually going on a first date." I said as I pulled into her apartment's parking lot. I stepped out of my car and hesitantly walked up to her door. It took all my nerve to actually knock on her door and when I finally did, I turned around and watched as the sun slowly started to go down.

I heard the door open behind me and turned on a dime and gasped. She looked so put together and perfect. Her blue eyes looked brighter with the small bit of makeup that framed them. Her hair had light curls throughout it and I had to stop myself from drooling.

She let me in and excused herself to get something. She came back out of her room and the scent of vanilla wafted through the room.

"Ready?" she asked and I nodded and smiled. She locked up and we walked down to my car. I rushed to get the door for her.

"You look great." I said and saw she blushed a small bit.
She asked me questions about where we were going but I wouldn't tell her. I just hoped she would enjoy tonight and not hate doing this.

"Ok, we're here." I said as I parked the car and she began to laugh

"Jaime.. Mini Golf?!" She said and I could see the happiness on her face.

"Yeah, I thought it would be better than a boring dinner date." I said with a nervous chuckle.

"I'm glad you didn't choose a boring dinner date, this is so much better." she smiled and gave me an unexpected hug. Hopefully she would really enjoy this and wasn't just trying to make me feel better about my 'first date' choices.

She attempted to pay but I wasn't having that. What kind of guy would I be if I let her pay for the first date that I asked for.

She challenged me and I was more than happy to accept. I've noticed that she tends to be competitive when it comes to any game. It was cute.

"Awe come on! I could have totally made that shot." I said with a playful smirk and she glared at me but smiled.

"Yeah, yeah." She said with a nudge to my arm.

We finished up the game and I lied about my points so she could win. Yeah, she gloated but it was worth it. She deserved everything even something as small as winning a game of mini golf.

We got back in the car and started to drive again.

We arrived to the parking lot by the lit up pier. The sun was just setting over the ocean and looked perfect.

"I've never been down this way before." Miranda said with a glint in her eyes and a smile on her face.

"Really? Well, I'm glad I could bring you for the first time." I said with a smile and got bold and pulled her close to me, draping one arm over her shoulders.

We walked around the pier and played a few of the carnival games until we were both tired. I won her a moderately large white tiger that she had been eyeing the whole time we were there.
"You know, I never thought I would ever have a shot with you." I said after we had ordered at a small restaurant.

"What?" She said with a confused but slightly amused look.

"Well, you just seemed so... unreachable." I said and shied away. She chuckled a little.

"If anything, I should be the one saying that. You're the 'untouchable rockstar' and I'm just a small photographer."

"You are anything but a small photographer! Everyone knows who you are by now. Everyone talks about the shots you take and how amazing they are!" I saw her blush and shake her head.

"They aren't that spectacular."

"Stop being modest. You're pictures are pretty damn good. You're moving up the photo-food chain quickly." I said and she smiled brightly.

"Well, my photography is besides the point." She said as our food came out.

We ate and chatted about stupid things like upcoming events in our lives and just learned a bit more about each other.

After all of that, it was time to end the night. I thought it went pretty well, I hope she did too.

We got to her apartment complex and I parked the car. I got out and opened her door for her and walked her up, tiger in hand.

"I had a lot of fun tonight, Jaime." She said with a small smile.

"I'm glad. I was worried that you wouldn't and that it would be just weird and I don't know." I said in a ramble and nervously chuckled and rubbed the back of my neck.

We both kind of just looked at each other, not knowing what comes next.

"Well, I guess I should go." I said and she nodded. We both looked a little sad even though we knew we would probably be seeing each other tomorrow when she gets out of work.

"I should probably get to bed soon. They want me in earlier than usual tomorrow." she sighed.

"Ok, well... I'll see you tomorrow right?" I asked, not wanting to leave.

"Yeah, definitely." She smiled and so did I.

"Alright, Good night." I said a bit awkwardly and then she pulled me in for a hug. Something about her being in my arms just felt right. She let go and went into her apartment.

"Bye Jaime."

"Bye Miranda."

I smiled like a little kid after getting a free popsicle after she had closed the door.

The drive home was lonely but I couldn't wait to see her again. I laid in bed just replaying the night and I had a smile glued to my face until the moment I fell asleep.

Notes

I know this is mostly Jaime's POV but I liked writing his more than Miranda's. Just thought it worked out better and had more fun writing it.

Hope you all are well and not stressing too much over school/work!

Love you all! <3
