To Love Preciado

"Babe, can you fix my tie?" Jaime asked me.

"Yeah, hold on, I need to finish my hair." I replied.

"Girls." He chuckled.

"Boys." I snickered.

I straightened the last clump of hair and then pinned my bangs back. Before helping Jaime I inspected myself, making sure I look presentable. My now pin-straight hair flowed and the light amount of make-up I applied accented my facial features. I stood up and checked out my outfit. My black, lacey, mid-sleeve dress fits well and it looks great with my black combat boots. Usually I don't get all dolled up, but tonight we're going to a fancy restaurant so everything has to be perfect.

"Alright, I'm coming." I ran out of the bathroom to help Jaime.

As I approached him, his jaw practically dropped. "You look absolutely stunning. You're so beautiful."

"Thank you." I said, reaching for his tie. "You look very handsome." He was also all dressed up. Well sort of. He's wearing a black dress shirt, a gray tie, a pair of black jeans, and his gray vans.

He placed his hands on my hips and pulled me a bit closer. "Thank you." he quietly said. Then he tilted his head down and pressed his lips against mine. He pulled away and asked, "You ready to go?"

"Yup, let's go."



We pulled up in front of my parents' house. As I jumped out of my truck I asked Jaime, "You coming down with me?"

"I'll stay in the truck."

"Alright, I'll only be inside for a minute or two." I said. Then I started to walk towards the front door.

I walked up the two steps that lead to the door and was about to ring the doorbell when I noticed the door was already open just a crack. That's odd. I pushed it further open and invited myself in. "Hey, Mom, we're here!" I shouted to make sure she knows.

I walked through the house, finding myself stopping in the kitchen. I served myself a glass of water and sat down at the counter. As I was waiting for my mother to come downstairs, I ran my fingers through my soft hair. A couple minutes passed and I was still sitting there in the eerily quiet kitchen alone. The longer I sat in silence, the more audible the clock on the wall became. All I could focus on was the continuous, steady ticking and that was driving me crazy. "God, that's annoying." I muttered under my breath.

I quickly stood up and began to head upstairs. With each step I took, the floorboards beneath me creaked. For some reason every little noise is pissing me off right now. Most likely because I never hear these little noises since the house is never this quiet.

I finally reached my parents room and tapped on the door. "Mom, what's taking so long?"

There was no response.

I turned the doorknob. "Mom?" I slowly entered her bedroom. Much like the kitchen, it was dead silent. Surprisingly I cant hear my own breathing though.

I walked passed all the furniture in her room, heading straight for her unreasonably large bathroom and closet. The bathroom door was closed and light could be seen from inside. "Mom, come on." I called out to her again.

And once again no answer. Hearing no response makes me woried. My heart began to pump faster and the palms of my hands grew sweaty. I swung the bathroom door open to find no one inside. "What?" I said aloud. What is going on here?

I turned around, about to check the other rooms in the house. Before reaching the halfway, I looked over at my parents' bed. What I saw made me freeze in my tracks.
