This Love Was Out of Control

Game On

*Jaime‘s POV*1 week later

School was really settling in for me. It’s wasn’t that bad. I made a couple of friends. For one, Caesar was amazing and I love having her around. She introduced me to her boyfriend and he’s pretty cool. Turns out, he’s in a band called Of Mice and Men. I’ve never heard of them but Tony has. He told me that they’re pretty badass. I’ve yet to listen to them play live or something.

I’ve always wanted to play in a band. It’s been my dream. I used to play bass before I went to jail. I would play all day long until I would find the right notes. I sort of sing. I don’t think I’m perfect at it. Tony thinks I’m amazing as fuck but I just don’t see the potential I have in singing. Now bass on the other hand, that’s a different story. I think I’m amazing at that! But I never played in front of anyone besides Tony and he loves it. Me and Tony play some notes together. He actually plays guitar and he’s pretty rad. I think we make a great team!

First hour had just finished and I gave Caesar a hug before walking to the office. I told her that I couldn’t walk her to class today because I wanted to find out where I could sign up for sports. She waved at me and we split our ways.

I approached the office and saw some kids waiting to be taken in. I wasn’t going to wait for them to be done. I just wanted to ask where I could get sports forms to fill up.

I walked up to the lady that was the farthest down in the office. I stood there and waited for her to give me her attention. But just like all the other snobby ladies that sit at a desk, she didn’t even both to notice that I was standing in front of her computer.

“Can I help you?” she asked sternly, just slightly pulling down her glasses to get a better look at me.

“Yeah, I was wondering where I can get some sports forms?”

“You’ll have to go to the guidance office and talk to Mr. Fraser. He’s in charge of sports.” She turned her eyes back to the computer and began typing away, completely ignoring me. It’s like she doesn’t give a damn about what kids want in this school. She cares way too much about her stupid computer and not enough about the students here at Mountain View. I should fire her lazy ass and send her home crying like a lil sissy. She’s too old to be working here anyway. She’s like 72 something years old. Like damn lady, go home and rest and do old people things like sewing and reading books. Or…even watch cooking shows!

And where the fuck was the guidance office?! How many offices are in this school?

I turned around and walked out. I was not about to deal with her shit. I had no clue where this guidance office was and I had to ask someone.

The bell was about to ring and there were only a few kids left in the hallways. I spotted the ginger-haired guy I saw at McDonald’s the other day. I went up to him and asked him for directions.

“It’s over in that corner. Just walk down that short hall and the door is on your left.”

“Thanks, buddy,” I cheered. I took a couple steps and turned around because he called out to me.

“Hey, uh, are you in my 4th hour?”

“Do you have Biology with Mr. Davidson?” I asked, starting to walk toward the guidance office.

“Yeah! You’re the new kid. Nice to meet you! I‘m Alan,” he jumped with a smile on his face.

“I’m Jaime!” I said, practically yelling down the hall. “Listen, I REALLY gotta go to this guidance office shit. I‘ll see you in Biology!” He waved at me and we departed.

I opened the door to find Vic sitting in the waiting area. I glanced at him just for a second. I didn’t wanna put all the attention on me while I was walking in. I just want to get those forms and go to 2nd hour.

I walked up to a really young-looking lady, about in her 30’s, and asked where I could get sports forms.

“Well, what sports would you like to join?” she smiled, pulling out a stack-filled pile of papers. She was way nicer than that old tramp, rotting at her desk in the other office.

I leaned in a little closer and smiled. “Do you have a soccer form? I think I’d like to join that.” She ducked her head under the desk and pulled out one soccer form sheet.

I took a quick peek at Vic. He was staring at me again. Why was he always doing that? Just staring at me? He’s like a lion lurking in the shadows, waiting to feast on his prey. And by prey, I mean me. In this situation, I was his prey. And it actually did look like he wanted to tear the hell out of my flesh. But I guess I’ll just forget about what he’s thinking in that thick skull of his.

~~~
“Preciado and………..Fuentes! You two are partners for the rest of the year,” Mr. Davidson said, checking both of our names on his sheet.
“Which one?!” Mike bellowed at him.
“Vic, you and Jaime are partners. Your assignment is up on the counter and I‘ll be passing out the project later today.”
*Vic‘s POV*
Are you fucking kidding me? I don‘t want to be partners with him…FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR! I don’t want people laughing at me for working with the gay kid. I mean my friends Alan and Austin are both bi but I don’t disrespect them. None of my band mates really care if you’re gay or not but they always smirk and laugh if two boys are together a lot. They don’t care if it’s two girls because they think it’s so damn hot when they make out. And since we’re working on a project for the rest of the year, that means I’m stuck being with him 24/7! Ok, not literally but most of the time if I ever expect to get this shit done.
I rolled my eyes and grabbed our assignment from the front desk. I walked over to our lab station and pulled out the beakers.
“So looks like we’re partners,” the boy with the black, spiky hair said.
“Yeah,” I said flatly, not caring to look at him. I’m not trying to draw too much attention to me and him because from the corner of my eye, I could sense that my brother Mike and Jesse were giggling to themselves as they watched me.
I stopped what I was doing and gave them a dirty look. Then quickly lost their smiles and began working on their assignment.
I looked at Jaime again. I remember seeing him in the guidance office earlier today. The least thing I could do was make small talk with him. If we’re working on this project together, we have to communicate some way. So I suggest we talk about something instead of being quiet. It’s getting a little awkward because all the groups were chattering and laughing while me and him just stood there.
“So why were you in guidance office today?” I said, slowing pouring warm water to 10mL into the beaker.
He snapped out of his thoughts and began to speak. “Oh, I was just getting a slip.”
“For what? If you don’t mind me asking?”
“Well, I asked the nice lady if I could get a soccer form because I really want to join the team.”
“Really? I’m on the team. I’m actually the co-captain of the team,” I bragged, proving to him how much of a natural I was.
“Maybe I can change that,” he smiled.
HOLD THE FUCK UP…! I laughed a little. “Are you saying…you think you’re better than me?”
“I could be. I’ve been playing for a really long time. No guaruntees though. You said you’re the co-captain so I could be wrong.”
My smile went wider. “We’ll just have to see about that.”
“Yeah, we will,” he laughed.
I stared at him. “You know you’re really pushing it, Percado.”
“It’s Preciado,” he said angrily. “And maybe I can teach you some Spanish as well. You’re not Mexican Enough. I won’t let looks deceive me.”
Well you‘re a little shit, aren‘t you? If he wants to be a jackass, I can show him how much of an asshole I can be.
*Jaime‘s POV*
That should show him. Like I said, he’s not going to be the only guy that knows how to handle things around here.
I took the paper off the lab table and walked back to my seat because the bell was about to ring in one minute.
I gathered my belongings and stuffed them in my bag. I threw it over my shoulder and waited for the teacher to give instructions.
“So is anyone going to the soccer game later?” the teacher said, getting up from his chair.
“I am,” I said proudly, raising my hand.
“Good for you, Jaime.”
“I’m going with him!” Caesar said, standing up as everyone else did in the result of the bell ringing.
“Have a great day everyone! Make good decisions!”
I walked out of class with Caesar and her boyfriend Austin. “Does he always have to say that when class ends?” I asked.
“Yeah, he likes to give inspiration to his students,” Austin added with a small smile on his face.
“Inspiration? That’s not inspiration. That’s annoyingness to my brain,” I said holding my head. Caesar laughed and headed downstairs with Austin.
I walked to the bathroom nearby, waving at some friends that happened to pass by me. I stood in front of the mirror and gazed at my reflection. I checked for food in my teeth and fuzzies on my shirt. Clean. I bent down to wash my hands. Just as I was turning the water on, Vic popped out of the bathroom. He stopped for a second and stared at me. He walked over to the farthest sink from me and began washing his hands.
Why is trying to be so distant from me? What did I do to him? He can’t be mad about me dissing him earlier, can he? It was just a joke.
There was no one in the bathroom but me and him. I turned off the water and rolled down the paper towel. I watched him as he walked over to me, grabbing the remaining paper towel from the box. He quickly wiped his hands clean and left the bathroom, forgetting his backpack by the sink.
Yeah, I’m just gonna leave his bag there. He’ll realize that he forgot it and he’ll come back for it.
Game on, Fuentes.
