This Love Was Out of Control

Love Is Pain

*Vic’s POV*

Lunch was super exciting today for Jaime and Mike. But for me, not at all. Kellin was absent again, even after I talked to him yesterday and said that I wasn‘t leaving forever. But maybe, it was something more. Maybe he wasn’t only upset because of me touring. But honestly, who was that person on the phone with him yesterday? He was freaking out and screaming at the person. And then he says ‘I can’t go home’. What the hell was that about?
I’m upset that I didn’t even bother checking up on him when he went home anyway. It’s not like something bad happened, right?
Jenna walked over to me and placed her tray harshly on the table. She pouted at her food, not looking at anyone.
“What’s wrong, Jenna?” I asked her.
“You wouldn’t care, Vic,” she said, not making eye contact.
See, the asshole I was before would say something like ‘Okay, fine whatever. Act like that’. But the man I am now truly listens to people. It's because of the fans. The fans mean everything to me.
“I would care, Jenna, and I do.” I placed my hand on her shoulder. “Tell me everything.”
~~~
After school was over, Jenna and I decided to hang out with a couple of her friends at Taco Bell. I asked Jaime if he wanted to join us, but he had multiple assignments to do and Tony wouldn’t let him leave the house until he finished. I also forgot to say that Jaime and I finished our project before we went on tour so we wouldn’t have any trouble with our teacher.
It was nearing eight pm and I couldn’t leave Mikey all alone by himself. He probably ripped his hair out by now from bordem.
I dropped Jenna off at her house, gave her a kiss on the cheek, and parted my ways with her. I waited until she actually got in the house before I left. I was always taught to wait until she reached the door and walked in because, well, God forbid I leave and someone just randomly pops out of nowhere and rapes her. She waved good-bye and I dittoed her action.
I started to drive away when I reached Kellin’s house. Jenna and Kellin live in the same street, and I noticed an unfamiliar car parked in his driveway. It wasn’t his mom’s car and it wasn’t someone from his old band. I just don’t know whose car that belongs to.
I heard screaming coming from the house because his windows were open. I quickly slammed down on the break and backed up, pulling my car in the driveway. I ran up to the door and knocked on it, but no one answered. Clearly, there were people in the house because there’s a car in the driveway and I heard screaming; plus, I saw lights on up stairs. With a final scream inside the house, I heard no movement, not a single sound.
An old, fat man with grayish-black hair approached the door, leaning against it and filled his stomach with some type of alcoholic drink. His breath was terrible and surely he was intoxicated. His bloodshot eyes peered into mine, disgusted at the sight of me.
“Wh…whatta you want?” he slurred, gulping down the rest of his drink and tossing the bottle on the ground.
“I…I heard screaming.”
“Are you the cops?” I didn’t notice the pistol in his hand until he pulled it out of his back pocket and held it near his waist.
“Um, no. I was just-”
“Then get off my porch, boy.”
This guy had a fucking gun in his hand. My best friend is in this house and he thinks I’m just gonna go with the flow and leave? Fuck that!
“Is Kellin here?” I questioned, ignoring his demand.
“Whatta want with him?”
“Is he here?” I stated again more firmly.
“No.”
I glanced above his shoulder and saw a boy with a bruised face, a busted lip, and a bloody nose limping down the stairs, grasping onto the bar.
My eyes widened when I realized who it was. “Kellin?!”
The old man speedily rotated his body behind him. “Kellin, go back up stairs!”
“Vic!” Kellin screamed, clutching his lower stomach from possible pain. “Get out of here! Get out of here, Vic!”
“I said go back up stairs, you piece of shit!” the man bellowed at him.
“Get out of here, Vic!!! Go!” Kellin cried in his hands.
The drunken man was still at the door, but he continued arguing back and forth with Kellin. That gave me enough time to send out a text to my band mates for back up. I was going to need it. I tucked my phone away and saw Kellin running up stairs because the old man was chasing after him. I briskly charged my way over to them, hoping to God that Kellin got away.
I stopped at a door with this crazy guy. Kellin locked himself inside the bathroom.
Good.
Now the man can’t get to him. But that means…I’m the only one he can take his anger out on.
Fuck my life.
*Jaime’s POV*
I received a text from Vic while I was taking a dump. Luckily, I was finished. I read it over.
FORWARD: FORWARD: FORWARD: JAIME, MIKE, TONY: I’M A KELLIN’S HOUSE. I NEED HELP. CARRY A WEAPON JUST IN CASE! HURRY!
“Tony!” I screamed from the bathroom, pulling my pants up.
“Did you get a text from Vic, too?!” Tony yelled, already nearing the bathroom.
“Yeah! What happened?!”
“I don’t know!”
“Should we text him back?” I suggested.
“No, we can’t. He’s probably already in trouble and we need to get to him.”
“What do we do?!” I panicked.
“Exactly what the text says,” Tony said, reaching in his pocket that already had a knife in it. “Take this. I got the metal bat. Let’s go see what’s up.”
*Vic’s POV*
“He told you to get out of here, and you stay to defend him? If you’re his friend, you’re not a good one. You don’t listen. Now get outta here before I have my way with you, too,” the man said, stepping closer and closer to me.
“I won’t leave him knowing he’s in danger.” Having a gun in his hand frightened me, but I wasn’t backing down from him, not when my best friend needs help.
“Who are you anyway?”
“That’s not important. What did you do to Kellin?”
“That’s none of your business! But if you leave this house now, you won’t get hurt.”
“I’m not scared of you!” I heard a car pull up and the head lights turn off. I knew exactly who it was.
“Who do you think you are, boy? Comin’ up in this house telling me what to do!”
“Fuck you, asshole.”
I sharp smack whacked my cheek. A stinging pain fumed from my face.
“Don’t touch him!” I heard Jaime scream. He stood alongside with Tony and Mike.
Without thinking, I jumped on top of the man and strangled his neck with my arms. He spun us around to losen my grip, but it didn’t work. Instead, he body-slammed me to the ground, pressing all his weight on me. My breath was released from my lungs. I could barely breathe. I saw a furious Jaime run to the rescue, kicking the man in the head. Tony followed right behind him with a bat in his hand. He was pulled by his leg, making him fall to the ground. The bat came swinging right to the man’s face before Tony hit the ground. He immediately blacked out from a punch thrown right to his nose.
I was breathing heavily on the floor, trying to catch my breath. The man’s body literally smashed my ribs and I think they’re broken.
“Can you move?” Jaime said, holding my head with his hand.
Before I could answer, the old man pulled Jaime by his hair and kicked him in the stomach. He let out a squeal and pushed his head into the wall, causing him to instantly close his eyes.
“Jaime!” I roared, holding my stomach. Yeah, he definitely shattered my ribs.
I couldn’t move. I was stuck eyeing the man hurt my fiance, throwing big blows to his head.
Mike was standing there. Just standing there watching.
“What are you doing, Mike?! Help him!” I hollered, squeezing my eyes shut from agony in my mid- section.
The house instantly got quiet. Jaime was left alone and Tony was out like a light on the floor.
I opened my eyes, not knowing what just happened. Mike held the man to a gun point, aiming his gun right to his forehead. Mike brought a gun?! Yes!
“Whatta you gonna do with that gun, boy? You don’t even know hota use that gun,” the drunk said.
“You hurt my friends,” Mike breathed, his voice shaking with fear.
“And? A gun isn’t gonna make you feel powerful. Give it to me!” he shouted, stepping closer to Mike.
“Stay back, or I’ll shoot your fucking head off!” Mike blurted.
Damn! I’m more scared of Mike than I am the guy! I tried my best to scoot closer to the man, hoping I would trip him if he were to back up.
“You ain’t gonna do anything to me! Because you’re a pussy! You’re a piece of shit!”
A fire was shot. A big red stain started to fill the man’s shirt, causing him to flail his arms out and his stomach to be flopped over on the ground. He landed face first into the carpet.
Not a single bullet left Mike’s gun; it wasn’t Mike who shot the man…
Jaime lifted his head up to stare at the person who killed this crazy bastard. I angled my face towards the stairs.
It was Kellin. He freaked out and bolted up stairs, slamming the door and locking it.
“Are you guys okay?” I asked Mike and Jaime, since Tony was practically asleep.
“We’re good, Vic,” Jaime said, giving me the thumbs up.
“I’m gonna go check on Kellin to make sure he’s alright.”
I stood up slowly and headed towards Kellin. The door was obviously locked. “Kellin? Kellin, please, open the door.”
“Go away! Leave me alone!”
I leaned my head against the door. “Who was that guy?”
“I said go away!” he sobbed.
“I won’t leave you. I wanna help you.” I made it clear that I wasn’t going anywhere.
I heard his weeping rise. A thud signaled he leaned his head against the door. His crying halted and his breathing picked up.
“I’m sorry, Vic. I c-can't do this anymore. I’m so sorry,” Kellin breathed.
“Sorry for what? You didn’t do-” A loud pow sound startled me, sending me crashing to the floor from fear. “Kellin?” No answer. “Kellin?!”
“VIC!” Jaime and Mike shouted in unison, running up the stairs.
Jaime neared my side, dropping to the floor. “WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!”
“Guys…look,” Mike pointed under the door. A river of blood leaked from the crack beneath the door, making me shiver.
“Kellin……..Kellin…KELLIN!!!” I repeated louder each time. I tried to stand but I was too weak. Mike kicked down the door.
I crawled over to Kellin, who was lying on the cold floor. I giant blood spot sprouted from under his stomach.
“Call 911!” I screamed towards Jaime. “Hurry! He’s not breathing! Fucking hurry! Mike, go check on Tony!”
I’ve never been so damn scared in my life. My best friend was dying, my fiance’s best friend was completely passed out on the carpet, and I was fucking shaking like crazy. Why is this happening?! I come back to San Diego less than two days ago and my life is already filled with misery? Why me?! What did I ever do?!
Kellin’s eyes slowly fluttered open, but kept closing. “Kellin, Kellin look at me,” I lightly smacked his face so he would listen. “Kellin, don’t you dare! Don’t go there, Kellin! Get out of the light!”
I dragged him out of the bathroom with the remaining strength I had left. I sat up against the wall and pulled Kellin into the my lap. The floor became tracks of blood from where I pulled Kellin’s body. I ripped off my shirt and placed massive pressure on the spot where Kellin shot himself. His eyes flashed open from the agony.
I held his head with my hand and kept tight pressure on his open wound. “You’re gonna be okay, Kels.” A tear rolled down my cheek. I don’t know if he’s gonna be okay. I just lied to the both of us. “You’re gonna live on and on. You’re gonna be okay,” I whispered. Who am I trying to convince here...Kellin? Or me...
His eyes were open, but they weren’t moving. “V-Vic,” Kellin uttered. He braided his fingers with mine. His ferocious shaking stopped and his hand went completely loose. His eyes fluttered for the last time, slowly closing them, taking his last breath.
He was gone.
“Vic, I called the ambulance and they’re on their……way.” Jaime stood there with a blank expression on his face. “Oh my god.”
I was the one shaking now. I was the one crying. He let go on me. He fucking let go.
I slowly removed Kellin from my lap and stood up, grabbing onto my ribs. Still shaking with shock, every step I got closer to Jaime, the more I felt myself falling to the floor. I reached Jaime, but this time, I let go. Jaime grabbed my body and pulled me into him before I hit the ground. I passed out. He picked me up and carried me bridal style down the stairs and onto the couch. My eyes were closed, but I could hear Jaime giving me encouraging sentences.
“He’s with the angels now, Vic. He’s in a better place. Olivia is gonna make a new friend very soon.”
