This Love Was Out of Control

Permisson For His Hand

*Jaime’s POV* -before Jaime proposes-

It was Thursday. This is the day where I ask permission. My whole life depends on the answer.

I knocked on Vic’s door, only to have a tall, lanky human being standing before me. “Hey, Jaime! Come in. Vic isn‘t home right now, but he‘ll be home in a lil bit. Pop a squat. You wanna beer?”

“Uh, no thanks.” I sat on the couch while he walked over to the kitchen to pull out a beer. “Actually, I wanted to talk to you. I already told Tony and he‘s ok with it, but it’s your turn. I need your permission more than anything.”

“Alright, homie. Spill.” He took a sip of his beer and placed it on the table.

I took the deepest breath and let it out. All my emotions were building up in my heart, just waiting to pop the question to Mike, well, for his permission at least. “I wanna marry Vic.”

He didn’t speak. He only stared at me. His hand moved closer to the table, grasping his beer in his hand and taking another gulp before placing it on the table again. “Are you serious?” was the only thing he managed to say.

I fidgeted my fingers and locked them together. “Y-Yes? I love him so much. What better way than to tie the knot right?” He continued to look me dead in the eyes. I was getting nervous of his real response. Approve or not to approve, that is the only thing on my mind at the moment. What is he gonna say? “Look, if you’re apposed, then-”

Mike cut my sentence off. “I’m not apposed, I just don’t know what the hell to say. You wanna marry him? Go ahead, but if you EVER, and I mean EVER hurt my brother, in any fucking way, I will have your head for it and I won’t apologize. I don't want to see him get hurt after what Cara did to him. Do you hear me?”

He’s making me not want to propose to him anymore. That’s a huge threat to me. If you hurt him in any way, I‘ll have your head? What the fuck! Seriously, Mike, I’m not gonna cheat on him or anything. I never have and I’m not a person to do that. I'm not his ex-girlfriend. “Yeah, I hear you, Mike. I promise I won’t let you down.”

“Good.” He got up and walked over to the kitchen and threw his bottle in a plastic bag.

“There is one other thing. I need your help.” I stood up and skipped over to him.

“What is it?”

“I need you to not be home tomorrow because I’m planning on having a picnic with Vic in the backyard.”

“Anything else?”

“Can I tell you my plan?”

“No.”

“Please?” He sighed and let me continue. “I was planning on going to the zoo. Does he like the zoo?”

“He would never shut up about it when we were little,” he chuckled. He stepped into his room and sprawled himself out on his bed. “Loves it.”

“Great! Then, we would come back home, why I didn’t want you here, and I would have a picnic waiting for him under that big tree you have in the backyard. Now I just need to know what kind of food he likes.”

“Do sandwiches and juice boxes,” he beamed, sitting up and placed his head against the backboard.

“What kind of juice boxes does he like and what do I put on his sandwich?”

“Pack Fruit Punch and put a little bit of mayo in his sandwich. Not too much, he doesn’t like that. Other than that, just the usual. Lunch meat, cheese, all that stuff.”

I love mayo. Damn, I gotta remember not to put a lot in his. “Got it. Does he like anything on the side?”

“Better Made chips. Those little bags of chips. When we were kids, he would always rush to the closet of food and snag one when he got home.”

“That’s hilarious!” I added.

“Not when our mom got home though. She would bitch at him for taking one because they were for school only.”

“Oh,” I said feeling a bit down. “Well after the picnic, do you think it’s a good idea to go have a long walk on the beach? And then have a dinner set up for him at the restaurant at the very end of the beach?”

“Ooooo, he would love that! It has food so of course! And wait, there’s a restaurant at the end of the beach? You lived here for like, what, less than five months and you already know this?”

“I get out a lot,” I said proudly.

He sighed and turned away from me. “Look, if you’re honestly dead serious about marrying Vic, maybe you should give away small clues, you know, to ensure him so he can get the idea.”

“What do you mean?”

“Leave him cute notes. That’s what Frenchi does for me every time she’s being cute. Just leave him notes here and there, maybe one in the picnic basket and one in your pocket or something. Just little things, you feel me?”

“Yeah, I feel you,” I winked.

“Ewww, not to me, Preciado. Save all that bullshit for Vic when you see him.”

after the proposal; the next day

I took Vic home later that day and told Mike that he said yes. He honestly could not stop crying in the car so I held his hand the whole way through. The only people that know as of right now are Mike and Tony. So pretty much just the band.

It was a cloudy afternoon on a Saturday. The breeze was cool and a little bit of light from the sky was perfect.

Vic and I took a stroll to the park. We talked about when we were gonna tell everybody the news or whether to just let them notice the ring on Vic’s finger. We decided the second option would be right; let everyone surround Vic and gossip to him about how things will be different. We’re still in school and have a long way ahead of us.

We sat down on the park bench holding hands, just watching little boys and girls go up and down the slide. I rotated my head to the left and took notice of a little girl, about the age of four, tearing up. She was standing alone by the swings, about to get ready and scream her lungs out from being left by herself.

“Where are you going?” Vic asked me, not wanting to be left alone on the bench, as I stood up and started wandering away from him.

“I’ll be right back. Hold on.” I approached the little girl. She had long, curly blonde hair that flowed side to side as she looked for her mother. Her face was stained with wet tears and her cheeks were pink. Her sea green eyes flipped up and stared in mine. I bent down to her level. “Are you lost, little one?” I put on a small smile for the girl so she wouldn’t run away from me.

She nodded her head and began to tear up a little more. “I want my mommy,” she cried into her hands.

“Can I help you find her? I bet she‘s around here some where.” I offered, taking her hand. Instead, she prolonged her arms out, gesturing me to pick her up. I cuffed my hands under her arm pits and pinned her to my hip, slowly walking around the park to find her mom. “Is that your momma?” I pointed to the lady in the dark blue shirt. The only reason I pointed to her is because she was wearing the exact same shirt as her daughter, but had different colored shoes on. She was facing the other way, yelling ‘Grace?! Where are you, Grace?!’ so I figured it was her.

“Mommy!” She shook herself from my grip and landed on the ground, running over to her mom.

“Grace! Oh my god, where were you?!” the mother screamed, embracing her daughter with a tight hug.

“He helped me find you.” She pointed in my direction so I gave a quick smile.

“Thank you very much! How can I ever repay you,” the nice lady said to me.

“You don’t have to, but next time, make sure your daughter is in sight at all times,” I said politely. “She was very scared without you.” I walked my way back to Vic, who was smiling at a little girl talking to him.

“Hey, you’re back! I made a friend! Jaime, meet Evalina.”

The rest of the day went by smoothly. Vic asked if I wanted to sleep over his house, and, of course, I accepted.

“I can’t wait to see the look on people’s faces when they found we're engaged!” Vic cheered quietly because Mike was already sleeping.

I nodded my head in agreement. “What do you think they’ll say? I mean, who would’ve thought…oh I don’t know.” I jumped into bed with him, stripping off my pants and throwing my shirt across the room.

“We’ll get our results on Monday,” Vic said, turning over on his stomach.

“That reminds me, when are we gonna start going on tour?”

“Whenever Fearless calls us into work in the studio. We already have songs that we know and practiced on so whenever they call us I guess.”

“What if they don’t call?”

“I’m pretty sure they will. We did win first place, remember?” He quickly drifted off to sleep, with the ending of a light snore or air.

“Goodnight to you to then, babe.”

He quickly giggled and kissed my cheek. “I'm only kidding! Goodnight. I love you.”

“I love you too, Vic.”
