This Love Was Out of Control

Your Forever Is All That I Need

*Jaime’s POV*

I searched and asked for a map at the zoo. We were looking for the monkey house and couldn‘t find it. We literally walked everywhere and couldn’t spot it.

“Excuse me, where is the monkey house?” I asked politely to a lady that was eyeing the lion in a cage. The lion, however, had a different thought on his mind. Stalking his prey, I can see.

“I think it’s over there,” she pointed. “I’ve only been here a couple times and I’m still not sure. There’s a map in that direction if you need one! It will be on the right.”

“Thank you,” Vic said as we walked away from the kind lady.

We approached a large map that hung from a pole. It was orange and yellow, very worn out if you ask me. I quickly tapped the map a couple times.

“It’s an enchilada, and a dingo……and some boys,” I said deepening my voice at the last part, pointing to the little children on the map.

“That last part about the boys, you sounded like a fucking pedophile, Jaime,” Vic said, shielding his laughter.

~~~
“That was so much fun, Jaime! I can’t believe we went to the zoo! It’s been so long, since like, I was in 5th grade. That alligator almost snapped at us, you saw that right? That was a perfect date!”
“Who said it was over?” I winked, interlocking my fingers with his as we received weird stares from people. “By the way, the alligator was literally about to charge at us.”
Today is Friday. I told Vic to leave this day open, and he did. I have a whole schedule planned out for us. First, we go to the zoo. And we actually just got done with that. Next on my list was to go back to his place and have a cute little picnic in his backyard. I told Mike the day before and told him not to be home because I wanted “alone” time with Vic.
We reached his house. The day was hot and sunny, the rays practically blinding us in the eyes. The clouds shifted here and there, but the sun's harmful rays were pointing down from the sky.
“Where are you going?” I asked him, heading towards the backyard.
“Ummm, inside. Isn’t that why we came home?”
He has no idea what’s ahead of him. “Did you read the note on the door?”
“Note?”
*Vic’s POV*
Did he just say note? I walked closer to the porch to find a folded note attached to the door. I unfolded it and began to read.
Roses are red, violets are blue, I‘ll never love someone the way I love you. A special treat awaits in the backyard, I really…oh fuck this shit. I was never good at rhyming. Just go to the backyard.
-Jaime
“How thoughtful of you Jaime. It’s kinda cute,” I blushed, pecking him a kiss on the lips.
He directed me to the backyard, where I happen to notice a red blanket with a picnic basket rested neatly under a tree. Since the sun was blazing out, the shade would be perfect to cool off under. I smiled and intertwined my fingers with Jaime’s, just strolling to take a seat on the picnic blanket.
“This is so adorable. You did this for me?” I asked, pretending like it wasn’t obvious.
“Well who else, numb nuts?!” he laughed.
We sat on the blanket, just smiling at each other until one of us opened the basket. It was filled with sandwiches, chips, juice boxes, and another letter. It's a good thing I remembered not to put too much mayo for him, but for me, I loaded up on it. And for the juice boxes, I made sure it was Fruit Punch. Of course, a side of Better Made chips.
“Let me guess, this note is for me as well?”
He winked at me and I smiled widely, taking the letter in my hand.
If we were the alphabet, I’d put U and I together…wait, we already are together. Haaa.
-Jaime
I put the cute note down and winked at him. “What is it with these letters?”
“Why, do you not like them?” his voice filled with paranoia, thinking that it pesters me reading cheesy love jokes.
“No, no, I love it! It’s so sweet.”
“Well dig in, Fuentes. We got more day ahead of us!” He took a bite out of his sandwich, a speck of mayo stained his lips. He sipped on his juice box and stared in my eyes. I quickly looked away from chuckling at him. He eats like a little kid but it’s adorable. “Something funny?”
I nodded my head in a left to right motion, causing him to be suspicious of me. “Nothing at all, Jaime.” I couldn’t hold it in. “Ok, I lied. Maybe I can help you with that.” I placed my chips on the blanket and leaned into him, licking off a section of mayo hidden in the left hand corner. I pushed my lips to his, entangling my fingers in his hair. He pulled back.
“Sorry, don’t want mayo all over you,” he winked.
I took a bite out of my sandwich. "How did you know that I like a little bit of mayo? I never told you that. And Fruit Punch? I love Fruit Punch. Plus you brought Better Made chips?! I freaking love these! I used to come home from school when I was little and sneak one into my room."
"I know," he confessed.
"Wait, how?"
"I...I guessed?"
"Oh, well good guess...Hime," I winked, sipping on my juice box.
"Shut up!" he said, punching my knee playfully.
~~~

The sun was setting and the view was beautiful. Whatever rays were left of the sun that shined on my face was evaporating all my bad feelings, lightening my heart and emptying the demons inside me. The sand stretched alongside me; peach and pure. Only the forgotten footprints left behind remained, except for the debris and a few scattered shells here and there, as if they were sprinkled, just for decoration.

I could taste all the bad thoughts, blowing away in the lightness of the wind. The echoes of jubilant laughter surrounded Jaime and I as we stepped our feet into the low tide on the shore. The small waves sparkled and glittered playfully, splashing over my feet. The beauty of the waves were calm and gentle, just like how Jaime braids his fingers with mine and boops my nose all the time. My eyes followed the sun, resting on the sunset peacefully over the horizon. There are no words to describe how I melted into the sunset, and then onto Jaime.

I leaned on Jaime’s shoulder, still strolling along the shore, until we came across a candlelight dinner waiting for people. I didn’t know they had a mini Bahama Breeze looking site towards the left side of the beach.

“Can we go in there and check it out?” I asked him, jumping up and down like a child just begging to sight all the cool stuff they had.

“Actually, that spot over there looks hopeless, so maybe, just maybe, you and I could have dinner in that area?”

“Yay!” The spot he happened to point to was where the candlelight dinner was.

~~~
“That was absolutely delicious! This place is amazing and I couldn’t ask for anything better because, well, I have it all. And I have you.”
He put his fork down and stared in my eyes. “I need to tell you something, but first,” he pulled out another letter. “Read this.”
Have I told you how much you mean to me?
Have I told you about all the happiness you bring towards me?
Have I told you that you mean the world to me?
Well, if I haven’t, I want you to know that you’re the best thing that’s ever happen to me.
Since the day I first saw you in McDonald's, to the moment leading up to now.
Not every asshole stays an asshole.
-Jaime
“This is so adorable, Jaime. I just have to ask, what was the idea of taking me to the zoo, having a causal picnic under the tree, having a heart-to-heart conversation on the beach, and now this romantic candlelight dinner for two? And all the sweet notes? What’s going on? Are you…ARE YOU MOVING AWAY?! IS THAT WHAT IT IS?!”
“Vic,” he whispered. “I’m not moving away, babe,” he chuckled. “I swear.”
“Then, then, what’s going on? I’m worried now. You got me worried.”
“Victor…chill. I promise I’m not moving away. But we are gonna move away from the beach because I wanna take you somewhere else before the night ends.” He pulled out my chair and we held hands until we approached his car.
~~~

*Jaime’s POV*

“Remember this place?” I smiled at Vic, who was awestruck by the view.

“How could I forget? The scenery is beautiful! We’re practically on top of a mountain, even though it’s just a big ass hill,” he joked, nudging my arm.

I gulped a lump in my throat that I’ve been holding back since we left the beach. “Hey, Vic?”

“Yes, Jaime?”

“You know I love you, right?”

“Of course…are you sure you’re not moving back to Michigan?”

I leaned into him and kissed his cheek. “I promise I’m not moving back to Michigan.” Vic’s body language was tightening up and I feel like it’s my fault. “Maybe I can lighten your mood?”

“Who said my mood needed to be lightened?” he smiled.

“Oh come on.” We leaned over the fence that blocked our way from falling over the hill. I turned to Vic. “Hey, wanna hear something?”

“Of course!” Vic said with enthusiasm.

“Knock, knock!”

“Really, Jaime?” His happiness went from a 10 to a 3.

“Just go with it!”

“Ugh, who’s there?”

Just do it. It’s now or never. “Marry?”

“Marry who?”

“…Marry me.”

“Haaaa, that’s a good one! You’re funny, Jaime!” he laughed, leaning over the fence. He turned to me, his face serious and his eyes peering into mine. “Wh-What d-d-did you just say?”

I took his hand in mine, kneeling on my knee, staring deeply in his eyes; for the moon started to shine bright in our direction. He quickly threw his hand over his mouth, getting the idea that this was a proposal. His eyes squinted and tears formed in his tear ducts.

“Vic, you are so beautiful and there’s no one I’d rather be here with than you. You take my breath away, you don’t even know it. With all the letters I wrote you, my next one has to be the most meaningful and I’m gonna read it to.” I pulled out the letter I wrote a couple nights ago when Vic and I made love. I cleared my throat and began to read. “I wrote this just days ago when you fell asleep next to me. While I lay here waiting to hear from you, I can’t help thinking about what my life has become when you became a part of it. Waiting and wanting you has been the focus of my thoughts these days, knowing that one day, all that I have envisioned of us being together, will finally happen, even if it’s just for a moment. You give me a reason to wake up in the morning and smile. Just smile for no particular reason except the fact that you’re here.” I finished the letter and shoved it back in my pocket, but continued on.

“As the days go by I feel myself growing closer and closer and my heart is suddenly coming out of its shy spot and wanting to feel what it feels like to be loved again. I don’t ever want to lose this feeling. I don’t ever want to lose you. When I hear your voice, it’s like a feeling I don’t want to leave; you give me comfort and joy. The sound of your voice is like my favorite song, I can listen to it all night until it puts me to sleep. Yet, still as I continue here and think about everything you are to me, still, I just want you to know that wherever this road may take us, and how far it may be to finally get where we want to go, always know that you are in my heart and in my heart is where you’ll always be. Life hasn’t been this grateful to me, until there was you. You told me what true love was. Your smile. Your eyes. Your lips. Your hair. Your voice. Your laugh. Your hands. Your smirk. Your teasing. Your humor. Your weird faces that you make. The way you walk. The way you say my name. The way you look. The way you talk. Your singing. Your dancing. Your body. Your love. You. All of you. I want you in my life forever. I don’t…I don’t want anyone else to have you. I want you all to myself; because I love you. I love you so much, Vic.”

His crying made me tear up, but they were tears of joy and excitement. His mouth looked like it was in pain from smiling the whole time.

“Oh my god…oh my god…I can’t breathe. I think I’m gonna have a fan girl moment.” Vic began to fan his face.

I pulled out a velvet blue box, which had a scintillating diamond ring, the perfect fit for his finger. “Victor Vincent Fuentes, I love you so fucking much. Will you m-”

“YES! YES, OH MY FUCKING GOD! YES! YESSSSSS, JAIME! I’LL MARRY YOU!” He jumped up and down with so much excitement, I couldn’t believe his legs weren’t exhausted.

“You will shut up and let me finish? What, a nigga can’t finish his proposal for the man he loves?” I laughed and pinched his cheeks.

“Sorry, you were saying?” he chuckled, trying to keep his cool.

I held onto his hand again. “Vic, will you make me the luckiest man alive and marry me?” He nodded his head, which I commenced to slip the ring on his finger. “If you like it, then you should put a ring on it,” I laughed.

“Is that what this was all about? The whole “leaving Friday open” so we can spend the day together, so you can take me out, so you can propose to me on top of a hill, to which I adore dearly?”

“You know it,” I winked. We walked off the hill holding hands and back to my car. This night was amazing. I couldn’t ask for a better moment than this.

“Hey, Jaime?”

“Yeah?”

“I bet you never had a Friday night like this.”
