The Academy

The Truth Hurts, But What Is The Truth?

“Bella, wake up.” Max whispered in my ear.

I jumped back for a second, not fully recognizing his voice at first.

“What’s going on?” I grumbled.

“The usual, get up and report to the kitchen.” Max stated, and then walked out the door.

Report? Was I in the army? I didn’t think so.

Something cold was pressed against my chest, I sat up and touched it, finding that there was a necklace around my neck. Had it been there before? I didn’t think so, Max just probably put it on last night. As much as I didn’t want to admit it, the necklace was beautiful. It was on a thin, silver chain with an infinity sign wrapped around a heart.

I got out of bed and went straight to the kitchen. Oh joy, more people.

“Good morning.” I cheered, trying to start this day off right, the time was coming close and I still had a chance to get out.

“Aren’t you in a good mood.” Ronnie chuckled from at the table, sitting next to Derek.

Max, Craig, Mike, Vinny, and Ricky were also in the room.

“I’m not in a coffin anymore, to me that’s a fair reason to be happy.” I told them, that part was a bit true.

“When did you put that on?” Derek asked Ricky, pointing to the necklace around my neck.

“Last night, but she doesn’t know.” Ricky explained, and then went back to drinking his coffee.

Oh shit, now what didn’t I know?

“Should I keep it on?” I wondered.

“Absolutely, plus there’s the fact that you couldn’t get it off even if you tried.” Mike responded.

Great, now I’ve got what’s basically a collar. What’s next?

Actually I didn’t even want to consider that.

“Drink this and then go to the auditorium.” Vinny instructed, while passing me what was literally a shot glass.

“What is it?” I cautiously wondered.

“Something you’re going to drink.” Craig snapped.

Wasn’t he a sweetheart? I took the shot, closed my eyes and quickly knocked the glass back and let the burning alcohol run down my throat. It singed my throat all the way down, once it was all down I just about coughed it all right back up, but I managed to hold it in.

“Lightweight.” Mike muttered under his breath.

“Hey let’s go!” Ryan called entering the kitchen.

I got up and followed him into the auditorium where we also were met with the 4 other girls in my group, Sam, and another group of 5 girls.

“Sit down and we’ll begin.” Sam called out to us.

We all took a seat and became quiet.

Not to bore you with every detail I’ll summarize what happened. For four hours Sam bitched at us that we need to be more adaptable, and that we need to correct our wrongs. Seriously, no joke, 4 fucking hours of that. I think I would have prefered to be back with Balz, and that was terrible.

We then were given a 10 minute lunch break, which was really them giving us some sketchy sandwich and a water bottle and then we went back into the auditorium.

Then it was Ryan’s turn to drag on for this time 5 hours. His ever so magnificent lesson was that we need to learn to occasionally be fully dependent on them. So basically we’re supposed to be their slaves, but when they want to really humiliate us they want us to do nothing and do everything for us. I couldn’t help but feel it was all bullshit.

Finally it was over and all of us girls headed off to our dining area.

“Quickly come with me, we need to talk in private.” Cassie whispered to me, nodding towards an empty and dark hallway.

“I don’t know.” I bluntly admitted.

Suddenly I was pulled into the dark hallway, pushed up against a door, and a hand was placed over my mouth.

“Calm down Bells, it’s me.” Taylor said.

“Sorry you scared me.” I apologized.

“No problem. I just wanted to quickly talk to you, since it seems that you’ve been avoiding me.” Taylor told me.

“It’s not just you.” I replied.

“I know, it’s Cassie too.” Taylor said.

“Don’t take it the wrong way, I’m just being precautious. The people that I thought I could trust and put my faith in kidnapped me along with 97 other teens. Plus someone told me that I should be cautious of you.” I finally admitted.

“Chance tell you that?” Taylor wondered.

“Yeah.” I muttered.

“I know this is going to sound stupid and redundant and there is no way to actually prove this, but Bella I need you to trust me. Chance is dangerous, and he is becoming very close to Danny and Chris, they’re having late night meetups and the way he talks about you isn’t like he used to, it’s more like an object that’s in the way.” Taylor informed me.

That took me for surprise. When I talked to Chance in no way shape or form did he seem like he had bad intentions though. But Chris and Danny also didn’t appear as psycho ‘Dom’ kidnappers.

“How can I know what’s real?” I asked.

“I guess you can’t.” Taylor sadly replied.

I suddenly got an idea, and since it was the only thing I was going off of I had to take a chance.

“How about this, by Saturday or Sunday we should know who’s staying here and who can go. No offense to you, but I’m not trusting anyone until then. So you and Chance can do whatever you want to, and if you’re telling the truth than that’s great. If you’re not then there’s not much I can do, because I’m already screwed. In a few days the truth will get out and then we can all be fine.” I stated.

“I know it’s hard to trust anyone Bella but you’re my best friend in the world, I’d never hurt you. Chance is a jock, he does whatever he needs to in order to survive, which includes throwing you under the bus.” Taylor said.

“You don’t get it Chris, I’m not trusting anyone. I’ve been through hell and back these last few days and have been humiliated in ways that I didn’t think possible. I’ve been forced to wear lingerie and sleep in between multiple band members. Do you know how degrading that feels? I put my faith and trust in these people and they turned around and did this to all of us. I’m not trusting a thing anyone says until we’re told the truth about who is staying here and who can leave.” I stated.

Getting pissed off and agitated that Taylor didn’t get my frustration I left the hallway and started walking back to the kitchen. Now I couldn’t even trust my two best friends, it killed me to admit this but it was true. I headed straight towards the part of the kitchen where I knew Chris, Danny and the other guys would be. I knew they would tell me the truth, even though it was a sickening truth.

The doors were closed to the kitchen but I heard my name mentioned so I stood in front of the door and listened in to their conversation.

“Are you sure?” Max asked.

“There’s no doubt, Bella was who we wanted from the very start and we are planning on keeping her. He friends have been very helpful , all things considered.” Danny stated.

“Nice choice of collar.” Robert chuckled.

“We thought so, plus she can’t get it off so as long as it’s on she’s ours.” Chris replied.

Oh god.

I couldn’t get out.

I was going to be stuck here and be their slave.

That couldn’t happen.

I needed to get this collar off, because it started to feel like I was choking.

I ran back down the hall and all the way to the room that I’ve been sleeping in the past few days.

Once I got there I went straight to the mirror and started to try and rip the necklace off. It wasn’t working and I was starting to feel some sort of panic attack coming on. I turned it around and tried to find the clip, I only found a little small miniscule padlock on it. It wasn’t coming off. I went into real freak out mode. I couldn’t do this. My fingers kept trying to pry it off of my neck, but all I was doing was losing some of my air supply. It was a tight fitting necklace so it didn’t give me much room to breath.

“Bella?” Kuza called.

Shit.

All common sense seemed to leave me and I kept pulling harder and harder on it but it wouldn’t snap off. I looked down quickly and realized that there was splotches of blood on the floor. I panicked. I felt increasingly dizzy and got to the point where my sight was going blurry.

I heard Kuza coming and I gave my necklace one last hard yank to get it off. I knew it wouldn’t do anything but it would at least make me feel like I wasn’t a dog.

I saw some more blood drip on the floor, but I was beyond pain. The last thing that I saw was Kuza running towards me.

Maybe death could save me, since no one else could.
