Worlds Over, Time to Die. Nothing Left but our Souls Inside.

March 19, 2016- Katelynne Quinn

It's now been a full year. I can't believe that we've all made it this far. It's been a while since we all have gotten a good break from walking and driving. Everyone has asked me what the point of going to DC is and... I really don't want to tell them. They would just get mad, Kellin especially since this has caused us to lose two of our children.

I still vividly remember getting the automated phone call from the white house. I thought it was drill or some sick crank call but then it came on the tv everywhere... everywhere but California.

I thought of leaving, saving us but I, along with the kids, didn't want to leave Kellin behind. I watched as people fervently packed as much of their belongings as they could before time was up. It was noon and the government was giving us until five to get as far away as we could from California where the virus that they had accidentally spread had started. I didn't think Kellin would escape, they had permanently closed the border of California.

The world had suddenly stopped when I realized I probably wouldn't see my husband again; Our kids would no longer have a father. I stuck it out though. I held on to the little shred of hope that he had left the release party and was already gone from CA. I'm happy I stayed but it was at the cost of my two youngest. It still breaks my heart knowing I had to dig their graves before they had to dig mine.

It hurt seeing Danielle and Vic with Ciel but I had to keep myself from breaking down. I had to tough it out. We all had lost loved ones in this journey through the now chaotic world, no time to grieve. I could tell Kellin felt the same way just by the way he looked at the baby boy; sad but joyful. He had become like a stone over these last few months that I've been with them. It's not surprising though, this world has ruined all of us in some way or another.

We've all come so far. The world around us felt calm and cold, yet chaotic. While we've lost a few, we gained one that made us join together. It's funny to think about how a tiny little human can make such a difference in such a short amount of time. Everyone has slightly better attitudes, are a little bit happier and there aren't as many arguments. We had become a very odd family. I guess that just comes with our predicament.

I suppose I should stop myself before I write too much. Goodnight.

OMG!!!! I'm so happy right now! Can this happen for real though?!
For some reason I fell like D.C has something to do with a quarantine. Like they get there but they find this wall of sorts and they're denied entry because they've been in the "infected" zone. It could be all of the zombie/disease books I've been reading, too. I read "The Girl with All of the Gifts" by M.R Carey before this story and just reread "Dreamcatcher" by Stephen King. Can't wait for more!
