Worlds Over, Time to Die. Nothing Left but our Souls Inside.

June 2, 2015- Danielle Perry

I would like to start this out by saying how much better things have become but that would be a lie. This is for the truth right? This is so in the case that something does happen to us, the world will know. So I have to be honest right? Well here it is, the ugly truth.

After we left the barn,we decided that it would be best to get out of Cali as quick as possible. That meant less sleep, less rations, and a way more grueling pace. We hardly had time for food runs and water was becoming more scarce. We picked up what we could on the way. We were well beyond our limits and we soon realized it as many collapsed one by one.

Mama Fuentes was the first, followed by Mike, then Tony, and then me. Because of that we were forced to stop at the first place we could find. That place happened to be a factory that was destroyed. It seemed to have been a warehouse. It was full of clothes and shoes. However the only food was in a vending machine.

We had next to no food and we had less than two bottle of water left. There was no choice but to send out those who were well to get food and water. Vic led the group consisting of Kellin, Erin (against Tony’s weak protests), Alysha, and Jaime. We knew that there wasn’t anything from the way we traveled from. They decided to head out east and leave a trail of some of the clothes from the warehouse. We had no idea just how far they would have to go.

They set out in the morning, leaving Jessica to watch those of us who were sick. We literally couldn't move. Some illness had overtaken us and we had no idea what it was but we knew we hadn’t been bit. We had all been checked twice over and we all had the same symptoms. We couldn’t move, we threw up whatever we ate, and we had high fevers.

It was like we were going through hell. We had been moved to the second floor of the warehouse and we were pretty much barricaded up there. We hoped that we were far enough in that the monsters wouldn’t find us and even if they did, that they couldn’t get to us.

As night rolled around we all got worried. However it wasn’t like we could do anything. We laid in the darkness of the room because we dared not light a fire or alert anything to our presence. The only sounds that even rang out were the coughs or the occasional sound of someone getting sick.

Morning came and still no sign of those who had left. No one even wanted to talk for fear of saying the thing that was all on our mind. Jessica kept busy by taking care of us. It seemed the only thing we could keep down was water, of which we were running low.

By noon we heard a sound outside that put us all on edge. Jessica crept to the door, gun in hand. I wanted nothing more than to help but I couldn’t even hold my hand up. We all held our breath until we heard Vic’s voice ring out. Jessica unbolted the door and everyone came stumbling in.

They were dirty and bruised but it seemed like everyone was with them and alive. Vic walked over to me and grabbed my hand.

“We found a hospital. It is stocked with food and medicine. It is about 5 or 6 miles away. We ran into a few zombie things but when night fell we were stuck there. We got beds ready for you guys and were planning on setting out first thing tomorrow. That is the only hope we have of getting you guys better.”

I didn’t want to die. I clung to Vic’s words all through the rest of the day as I got sick and eventually passed out. I woke up to darkness. I could feel a body not far from mine. I knew it was Vic. He didn’t sleep too close to me in case I got sick but he stayed close.

I reached out and grabbed his hand. He didn’t squeeze it back, he was sound asleep. I knew that the trip had taken a toll on him also but he had to act strong now more than ever. I loved that man more than life itself. It was killing me that I couldn't do more to help.

The next morning we set out. Those who were healthy made a makeshift bed on wheels for those of us who were sick. I guess they had taken them from the hospital. They put us on it and we set off to the hospital. He said it was only 5 or 6 miles and it took them nearly a half day alone. I feared it would take us longer now that they had to practically carry us.

We ran into a few stray zombies but they were quickly taken care of and we continued on. As night started to fall, I started to panic. I was worried we would be out in the dark and still miles from our destination.

However Alysha, who was the scout, called out that it was less than a half mile away. The pace picked up and we were there in an hour, just as the sun disappeared. They locked us in the hospital and rushed us to the rooms they had prepared. We each had our own rooms but they were next to each other.

Alysha went from room to room and stuck IV’s in our arms. She was the only one who seemed confident that she could get a vein and she managed to get mine first try. I guess their first idea was to re hydrate us and go from there. I eventually passed out sometime during the night.

When I woke up the next morning I was able to somewhat move. I was amazed. I could move my arms and the upper half of my body for the first time in days. I pulled myself up and looked around the room. Vic was passed out in the cot next to my bed. He rubbed his eyes and looked up at me. I could see his eyes light up as he realized I was moving.

Alysha came in to check on me and informed us that everyone seemed to also be doing better. Vic left for a while and came back with some food and helped me eat. I managed to keep it down which surprised me.

After a short nap I asked Vic to give me the book so I could write. Everything has been so crazy as of late we all kind of just forgot to write. However I wanted to recount what I could while I am still awake.

This whole instance just reminded me of how fleeting life really is. We could be gone at any second.

Notes

Well I have had a writes block lately. All I have wanted to write is Jalex and Role Plays for anime lol. I hope this is okay. And I also realize that it is about time for finals and graduation for some, I still have two weeks.

So I would like to say good luck to all and congrats to any who graduated. Stay strong and do your best!

OMG!!!! I'm so happy right now! Can this happen for real though?!
For some reason I fell like D.C has something to do with a quarantine. Like they get there but they find this wall of sorts and they're denied entry because they've been in the "infected" zone. It could be all of the zombie/disease books I've been reading, too. I read "The Girl with All of the Gifts" by M.R Carey before this story and just reread "Dreamcatcher" by Stephen King. Can't wait for more!
