I Introduce The Selfish Machine

Sixty Seven

PIPIER'S POV

"No, no, shh, Mia." I said, bouncing my crying child against my chest as Tony and Mike tried to put her crib together. For about a month, Mia has been sleeping in a bassinet in our room, and we want to move her to her own crib after her six week shots. "Can you two hammer any softer?"
"I don't think that's possible." Mike grunted.
Mia screamed in my arms as Tony hit the hammer against the wood.
"Sorry-Mia." He said between slams. Tony then threw the hammer on the ground and ran over to me, kissing Mia's head repeatedly. I tried to take a step back, but almost fell backwards over Tony's guitar case. I clutched onto Mia as a reflex, making her scream louder.
"Tony, can you please move your guitars?" I asked over Mia's screaming. "It's okay, peanut..."
"Where? There's no room in this apartment!" Tony exclaimed.
"Our closest?"
"The extra pillows and blankets are in there."
"Hall closest?"
"Mia's clothes."
"Oh right." I said, forgetting there wasn't a closest in this room. "Well, nonetheless, we have no room-MIKE." I shouted as he began to hammer, which resulted in Mia crying even louder (I didn't even know that was possible). "I'm so sorry." I cooed to Mia.
"We need to move." Tony shouted over the hammering. Mike stopped at that moment, leaving the sound of Mia's crying to fill the room.
"Like, to a new apartment?" I asked.
"Or a new house. The neighbors are getting annoyed with Mia's crying." Tony said bitterly. Since bringing Mia home, we've had two set of neighbors coming over ever other day to complain about Mia crying. She's a loud baby, and it's not her fault. They're just rude people.
There was a knock on the front door.
Speak of the devil.
"Hold her." I said, transferring Mia safely into Tony's arms. I stormed to the front door, swinging it open to see a pissed off neighbor. She opened her mouth, but I cut her off. "She is a baby who does not know how to communicate. She cries. Get over it." I then slammed the door in her face. I turned around to see Tony with Mia, who had calmed down a bit. She was just fussy now.
"Okay." I sighed. "I see your point." I said, feeling now cramped in the apartment that was so big to me the other day.
Tony bounced Mia softly, and her whining slowly came to a stop. "So, I guess we're going to grow up and buy a house?" Tony asked with a smile.
"I thought it was marriage, house, then baby." I replied.
"Well, we're just backwards." Tony said. I stepped forward, kissing him softly on the lips.
"I wouldn't have it any other way."
