I Introduce The Selfish Machine

Sixty Five

It had been weeks since I lost my memory, and I slowly am beginning to regain it. I learned the guitar parts to all the songs on Collide With The Sky again. Little things made me remember things, like having dinner with Piper's parents (okay, but her dad is ALIVE?) or smelling the smoke from Mike's joints when he smokes. I'm happy things are somewhat normal again.
I forgot how much I love singing to Mia. I know she hears me, because she begins to kick like crazy when I sing to her. Piper is 35 weeks today, which means my little girl will be out soon and I can see her little baby smile when I sing to her soon enough.
Man, I can't wait to meet Mia.
Piper and I were watching Friends on the TV. Piper's favorite episode, The One With The Lottery. Friday nights were reserved for Friends binge and Panda Express.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
"Tony." Piper said softly beside me. I turned my head, seeing her bowl resting on her huge stomach. "I love you."
I smiled. "I love you." I softly kissed her lips, which tasted like Orange Chicken. Piper smiled afterwards, then dropped a fork full of noodles on the ground. She reached forward to try and clean it, but couldn't. Her lip then began to tremble. The closer Mia came to arriving, the more Piper cried. And here she was, about to cry again.
"I got it, Pipes." I said, placing my food on table and walking into the kitchen. As soon as I ripped a paper towel off, Piper screamed from the living room. My heart dropped and I ran into the living room, jumping over the couch to get to her side. "Piper, Piper, what's wrong?" I asked. Piper was clutching her stomach, her eyes squinted shut and watering.
"Something's wrong, something hurts." She cried. I ran out of the living room and into Mia's room in a flash, grabbing a bag that was pre-packed for Piper. I ran back into the living room, grabbing the car keys off the coffee table.
"Come on." I said softly, grabbing one of her tiny hands. She clinched on to my hand so tight, I thought it would fall off. "We need to get to the hospital. This is probably false labor, but we need to be safe." Piper nodded her head, and I led her to the car, hoping for the best.

I walked quickly with Piper inside the hospital, remembering the last time we were here (and yes, I actually do remember) when Payton arrived early and Leanna died.
I really, really hope this is false labor.
Piper leaned against the desk the nurse was sitting at, about to speak when Piped cut me off.
"I need to see my doctor." She said, breathing heavily. "Now."
"What's your name, and your doctor's?"
"Piper Lynn.....Perry. Oh my gosh." She cried, squeezing my already numb hand harder. She sobbed as the pain hit her again. She inhaled and exhaled deeply over and over, trying to rid the pain. Judging by the pain in my hand, it wasn't working. She opened her mouth, but shut it as she sobbed again. I racked my brain, trying to remember the doctor's name. Doctor ... Cook? No, that's not right. Doctor ... Doctor ...
"Piper!" A deep voice echoed. I shot my head up, seeing a man with curly hair and a white coat run towards us. COX! Doctor Cox! He got to her side, and Piper gripped his hand as she sobbed.
"Something's wrong." I spoke for Piper. "She just randomly got this pain while we were eating dinner. I remember something about false labor, but I brought her in just in case."
"Nurse, wheelchair, NOW." Dr. Cox barked. I watched my wife sob, wishing I was in her place so she didn't have to feel this right now. "It's completely possible it could be either false or actual labor, we-"
"No." Piper said, relaxing her grip on my hand. "On-onl-onl-TONY!" She snapped at me, and I understood what she was trying to say.
"She's only 35 weeks, there's no way this could be actual labor. Piper and Mia are both perfectly healthy." I said. The nurse brought the wheelchair over, and Doctor Cox and I lowered her into it. Piper released my hand. She clawed at the chair as we pushed her into an empty room. As soon as we got in the room, Doctor Cox threw a robe at me.
"Dress her in this. I'll be right back." And then he ran out he room, slamming the door behind him, I underdressed Piper easily before the pain rushed back. I expected Piper to cry and react quietly as she had before, but she didn't. She grabbed the collar of my shirt, tugging me to eye level with her.
"This is your fault, Perry!" She barked in my face. "You are the one who put this baby in me." She hissed.
"I'm-I'm-I'm sorry, Pipe-"
"I'm-I'm-" She mimicked me. "I swear Tony, after this, I'm becoming a lesbian so I- NEVER HAVE TO FEEL THIS PAIN AGAIN." She screamed, followed by more loud screaming as she grabbed my hand and squeezed.
"I mean, this may only be false labor so you may have to go through this again."
And then, she gave me her infamous death glare.
"I am going to kill you." She hissed, her green eyes burning into my soul.
Doctoe Cox walked back in, his hands in his pockets. "Is the pain any better? Legs up." He said as he squatted in front of her.
She also gave Doctor Cox her desth glare.
"Oh, well pardon me, was I not screaming loud enough?"
Doctor Cox looked up at me. "Ah, sassy pregnant woman. You have to love them." Piper's grip on my hand tighten, but it wasn't because of a contraction, it was so she didn't punch her doctor. "Just as I suspected." He jumped up, then walked behind her and wheeled her out. I was basically dragged along, even though I was going to follow anyway. "Precious little Mia is extremely stubborn and is ready to come into the world today. Because of that, and considering your weight, we have to have am emergency C-Section, so I sure hope you're ready to be parents."
I couldn't help but comment. "At least we know she'll have your personality. Stubborn and all."
Piper glared at me. "Tony freaking Perry." She hissed. "You're so lucky I love your stupid self."
I kissed the top of her head as we were guided into the room.
I really hope this isn't like last time.
