I Introduce The Selfish Machine
Forty Eight
My alarm went off at 7 am. Seven in the freaking morning. Just when I reached over to turn the alarm off, I remembered.
Tony comes home today.
I have never jumped out of bed so quickly. I started digging through the closest, throwing on a crop top, shorts, and Vans, then ran through the house in a rush to get everything clean before he got home. I was in the middle of organizing the sock drawer when the front door opened. I ran out of the bedroom to see Tony in the living room, and of course, I tackled him. I grabbed his face and kissed him.
"Well, I missed you too." He said with a smile.
I just held onto him tightly. After a while, I heard his stomach growl.
"So, uh, do we have any food?" He asked.
I sat up. "That's what I have to do today." I said with a sigh. I hate grocery shopping, the store is always full of screaming babies and mad people. "I really don't want to go."
"How about we go together? You always forget to pick up milk anyway." I laughed and kissed him again. I'm so happy he's mine.
"Okay, so we got Ben and Jerry's..." I said.
Tony's phone dinged. He must be texting Jaime or something.
"We got the meat."
Ding. Dang, again?
"Flour, sugar, wine, beer, vodka. What am I forgetting?"
Ding Ding. Must be pretty important.
"Oh, stuff for salsa. We can't have tacos without salsa."
Ding. Okay. That's it. "Who are you texting?" I asked, then looked up. Tony's face was pale, and he looked like he was about to be sick. "What's wrong?"
"Uh, Julie, uh, texted me." He said softly.
I felt the heat rise to my face. "I thought you deleted her number." I snapped softly.
"I did, but I don't she uh, deleted mine. You have to see this." He said, handing me his phone. I yanked it out of his shaky hand.
Julie
Tony, we need to talk.
Tony
Who is this?
Julie
Julie.
Tony
Leave me the hell alone. I don't want to talk to you.
Julie
Tony, this is important.
Tony
Nothing you say is important.
Julie
I'm pregnant.
Tony
No you're not.
Julie
*media attached* See? You're the only person I've slept with recently.
Tony
We'll talk about this later.
I felt the phone slip out of hand and land on the tile floor. My eyes stung with tears as I started at Tony.
Everything bad happens at the grocery store.
Notes
