I Introduce The Selfish Machine

Thirty Six

TONY'S POV

I stepped inside the apartment and sat all my stuff against the wall. The apartment was a mess, the coffee table was covered with a plastic table cloth, which was covered in glitter from a DIY project Piper was making. She promised last night to clean, but since she's been up 4, I'm sure she just passed out on the bed and forgot to clean. I looked down the hallway. The bedroom door was shut, so she must be asleep. I smiled. She's the best bride, and she's been so busy planning everything out. I'm so grateful for the little sassy ball of sunshine. I can't believe how in love I am with her.
I walked towards the kitchen, but paused when I saw her laptop on the dining room table. She usually puts it up so nothing happens, so why should she leave it out? On the ground, next to a leg of the chair was her phone. That's odd...
I bent down to pick it up, surprisingly, it wasn't shattered. Now this is weird. Piper would never just leave stuff like this out in the open. Where could she be?
I then turned my head and looked into the doorway that led into the kitchen. There...There she was, laying on top of a puddle of dark red.
Oh God, no.
I dropped the phone, springing into the kitchen. I knelt down besides her, feeling glass rip through my jeans and cut my knees. Oh, please don't be dead. Please don't let me lose you.
"Piper." I cried, shaking her body, beginning to cry. Her eyes fluttered open quickly. They shot up at me, red and green.
"Just let me lay here." She whispered softly.
"Are you bleeding? What happened? Where are you hurt? What's wrong?" I asked in a panic, feeling all over her body for large cuts.
"I dropped a wine bottle, so I probably have little cuts somewhere. Just leave me here, Tony, seriously." She whispered again, her eyes filling with tears.
I shook my head. "No, no I'm not leaving you here." I said, then picked her up. She wrapped her legs around my waist, and I walked quickly with her to the bathroom. I sat her on the counter, taking off her shirt and shorts, seeing glass wounds across her chest and face. Her hair was soaked and sticky with wine. She cried softly as I started picking bloody glass out of her skin. It wasn't from the pain though.
I stopped, and looked at her. Her eyes were looking down, and it was obvious she didn't want me to see her cry. Her lip trembled, and she whimpered for a minute before letting out a huge waterfall of tears. She fell forwards, crashing her body onto mine and cried into my shirt. She gripped my sides hard as she let it all out.
I ran my hands through her sticky hair. "Shhh." I whispered as she cried. I knew she wouldn't stop crying, so I just held her. I held the Piper that never showed emotion, and was finally letting it all out. What even happened? She wouldn't be crying this hard over stress.
She sat back up. "Get the rest of the glass out of me, please." She whimpered. I nodded my head, then went back to taking the glass out of her. It was mainly on her right side, but it still covered her.
As I picked the glass out of her side, I asked her. "What happened, babe?"
She whimpered again, and then spoke. I heard in her voice how much she was trying not to cry. "I-I-I got a phone call. Fro-fro-from my-my dad." She broke down again.
I looked up at her, shocked. "What? I thought-"
"I thought that too!" She cried harder. "He said he had to fake his death or we would be in-in trouble and-and face death, so he-"
"Well, that's not a bad thing love, he was-"
"I get that. I-I-I understand that. But-but he's been safe for years and-and hasn't eve-eve-even tried to contact us, Tony! He cut us off. he cut me off."
I got the last bit of the glass out of her, and she fell back into me. I held her tightly, letting her cry. I understand why she's upset, she wanted him in her life and he didn't contact her.
"I'm sorry Piper, I'm just sorry." I whispered into her ear, then kissed the side of her head as she cried.
"He left. He wasn't even dead, but he still left." She said, her tears slowing down. She sat back up and looked at me with the saddest eyes I've ever seen. I've never seen this side of Piper, and I never want to see it again.
"Do you want to shower now, love?" I asked. She nodded. "Do you want help?" I asked. She nodded again. She never wanted to seem helpless, but I understood why. She's been through so much in her life, it's been such a rollercoaster. As I stood there and looked at her, I knew she was more broken than any girl I've ever met, she just had the best way of covering it. She was broken, she was sassy, she was everything I never wanted to love but fell in love with. I wanted her, I craved her, and not in a sexual way. I wanted to love her, and I was hopelessly in love with her. Her father was just protecting her, and I know that, even she knows that. All the stress hit her at once, and she'll realize that it's all okay. But for now, I'm going to love her like I've ever loved anyone in my life. I was going to take care of her to show her no matter what, I'm on her side. She's the love of my life, even when she's overreacting.
As I unhooked her bra and helped her down from the counter, she whispered to me. "Please don't ever leave me." She squinted her eyes in pain as her raw, cut up feet hit the ground.
"I never will. Ever." I hugged her one more time before helping her in the shower.
She will never know how much I'm in love with her, but I'll spend the rest of my life trying to show her.
