Hold On Till May

Chapter 9.

“Can I stay with you guys for a few days, please?” I asked Vic and Mike as we left the hospital.

“Of course you can. We’ll be staying with our parents for a couple of days, but you’re welcome to come along.” Vic said.

I nodded and got into the back of the car with Jaime and Tony.

In the end, after much begging, Mike didn’t tell anyone at the hospital what had happened and I just fed them a story about how I had somehow managed to do it myself. Of course, none of the guys were too happy about it, but at the same time, Vic and Mike especially, knew not to push me to do something I didn’t want to.

As Mike started driving back to my place, so I could gather a few things to stay with them for a while, Tony let me rest my head on his shoulder, as he placed his arm around my shoulder, rubbing my arm in comfort, trying to avoid the burn.

Once we reached my place, I noticed a cops car sat outside, causing me just to sit up right and look out at the car in panic.

“Mike, why are they here?” I asked, in panic.

“Your mom must have called them.” He muttered.

I frowned and watched as they all got out of the car, as I stayed glued to my seat, staring at the cops car.

“Soph, hun, you need to get out of the car.” Vic said, sweetly.

I turned to look at him and moved slowly to get out of the car. Mike grabbed my hand gently and pulled me to him as Vic closed the door and led the way up to my front door. I knocked on the door as I had left everything back here when I ran out.

Mom answered the door and pulled me into a hug as soon as she saw me. I pulled away and look at her, only to notice the tears rolling down her cheeks.

“Why are you crying?” I asked.

“Because I couldn’t stop him sooner. I loved him like a son, Sophia, and he does this to you. It’s just not right.” She cried. “I should have got home sooner.”

I felt the tears run down my cheeks as I listened to what she said.

“I’m just glad you came in when you did. I think that was just the beginning of what he had planned out in his head.” I said quietly.

“Are you Sophia?” Someone questioned suddenly.

I looked up and behind my mom and noticed a police officer stood there. I looked back at my mom then at him again and nodded.

“Is it okay to ask you a few questions about Mister Adams?”

I gulped and looked behind me, at Mike, who just nodded at me in encouragement.

“I-I guess.” I stuttered and walked past my mom and into the house.

“Is he still here?” I asked quietly.

“He’s at the station.” He answered.

“But-He won’t go to prison will he?” I asked, on the verge of crying.

“He’ll be staying in a cell until his court date, unless he has someone in a different state to stay with.”

“Please, I don’t want him to go to prison. It was a one off thing. I know he won’t do it again.” I cried.

“I’m sorry miss. But we have to follow the rules. You don’t have to press charges, but he has to attend court.” He answered.

“I won’t be pressing charges.” I answered sternly.

“That’s fine, but I still need to ask you a few questions about him and why he resorted to doing this.”
I gulped and nodded.

**

“That’s all I need for now.” The officer said, standing up.

I nodded and stood up with him.

“We’ll be in contact and let you know when his court date is.”

“Do I need to attend?” I questioned.

“You’re not pressing charges, so no.”

I nodded and followed him out to the front door.

“Thank you for your time.” He said once he reached his car, turning to mom and I.

We both nodded and Mike rushed to me, pulling me into a hug.

I clung onto his shirt and started crying, the emotions from the day just overtaking my body.

“Shh, Soph, calm down, he can’t get you now.” Mike all but whispered, as he moved us into the house and back into the lounge.

Once I had calmed down, I pulled away and wiped under my eyes, getting rid of the tears.

Mom came in, with a tray of mugs, all full of coffee and passed them about. I gently took mine off her and held it closely to my chest.

“So, what happened?” Mom asked, as she sat down next to Tony.

I looked down at the floor, ignoring everyone’s eyes that were on me.

“Sophia, what happened?” She repeated. “Did you press charges?”

I ignored her again and bit my lip.

“You didn’t did you?” I could sense her getting angry, causing me to choke back a sob.

“I couldn’t.” I cried.

“What do you mean you couldn’t? He burnt you Sophia and not to mention hit you.” Mike spoke quietly next to me.

“He what?” Mom screamed.

I started crying harder. I couldn’t take having anyone else shouting at me today.

“Kim, I don’t think now is the time to be shouting at her.” Vic spoke in his calming voice.

“No, I think now is fine.” Mom spoke loudly.

“You sound just like him.” I whispered.

Mike wrapped his arms around me, trying to calm me down again.

“What was that?” Mom asked.

When I didn’t answer, Mike decided to.

“She said you sound just like him.”

I could hear the frown in his voice.

I looked up and over at my mom to see the pained expression on her face.

“Soph, I’m sorry. I’m just shocked that you didn’t press charges. What he did was wrong.” Mom said.

“I love him mom, he’s pretty much been the only one I can turn to in the past year, with you only been home a few days before leaving for weeks again. My best friends being on tour. He was there for me when you and dad broke up, when we found out dad had been cheating for three years and has another kid. I’m just having him get locked up or leaving him just because he made a mistake. He won’t do it again, mom, I know he won’t.” I frowned.

He won’t do it again, I know he won’t. I don’t know that. If anything, I think it’s just the beginning. He’ll keep up with it until I no longer see Vic and Mike, until I follow by his rules. But I can’t leave him. He’s been my everything lately. I’ve seen his loving side, the side where my safely comes first, my happiness. I know it’s still there, I just need to get that side of him to come back.

“I just want what’s best for you sweetie, we all do. All of us here care for you and we don’t like seeing you upset because you’ve been hurt.” Mom sighed.

I looked around at everyone and saw them all nodding.

“You’re not mad at me for deciding to stay with Craig?” I questioned.

“Yes, extremely. But it’s your choice, you’ll learn from the mistake soon enough though.” Vic said.

I looked at him and felt a pang of guilty hit me. Out of all the years I have known him, and Mike for that matter, I have never seen him look so disappointed in me. It hurt, a lot.

“I’m sorry.” I whispered.

“Come on, go up and a pack a few things, you’re coming with us while we visit Ma and Pops.” Mike said.

I nodded and stood up, making my way to my room.

I grabbed my duffel bag from my closet and placed it on my bed, before going around my room, picking out some outfits and everything else I would need.

I was almost finished, when there was a knock on the door. I called out to them that they could come in, and watched as the door opened to reveal Tony.

“Everything okay?” I asked.

He nodded and made his way over to me.

“I just wanted to make sure you were okay.” He said, shyly.

I smiled and turned around, to see him blushing slightly.

“I’ll be fine Tony. Don’t worry.” I smiled softly.

He smiled back and looked around my room. He stopped at the pile of magazines I had on my desk. They were all the magazines the boys were in.

“Wow, you got all these?” He asked, walking over to them.

“Of course, I may have been mad, but I needed to keep up to date with my friends.”

“Why not just follow them on Twitter?” He questioned.

“I don’t have it.” I shrugged.

“We’ll have to change that then.” He chuckled.

I giggled and walked over to him as he flicked through the magazines.

“They missed you, y’know.” He spoke quietly.

“I missed them.” I frowned.

“All throughout tour we’d hear from them ‘I wonder what Sophia is up to’ or ‘I really miss our movie nights with Sophia’ it drove all of us insane.”

“Then why didn’t they call me?”

“That I can’t answer. I have no idea what was going through their minds at that time. All I know is I mentioned it to Mike once that he called you and all he said was ‘I can’t do that, she probably hates me now’”

I looked up at Tony, to see him watching me.

“Well, that’s the past now. I guess all that matters is that they’re now back, how long for I don’t know.” I shrugged.

“I don’t think they’d do it again. I’ve already heard them talking about bringing you out to a few shows whenever out next tour is.” He said.

“I doubt that.” I said.

Tony went to say something, when there was another knock on my door, followed by it being opened. We both turned around to see Mike stood there.

“You ready to go?” He asked.

I looked around my room and nodded.

“What you looking at there?” He questioned, looking at Tony, who was holding one of the many magazines I owned.

Tony held up the magazine he was currently holding, showing Mike the page that they were on.

“Damn. Stalker.” Mike chuckled as he walked over, looking over all the magazines I had.

“I’d like to call it supporting and keeping up to date with my friends.” I shrugged.

Mike chuckled and nodded, before going over to my bed and picked up my duffel bag.

“Come on, Ma just called Vic demanding where we were.” He said.

I nodded and all three of us left my room and made our way back downstairs.

“Ready?” Vic asked, standing at the bottom.

We all nodded and I went into the lounge and hugged my mom.

“I love you, mom.” I muttered quietly and pulled away.

“Love you too, and I won’t tell Craig where you are if he turns up here.” She frowned.

I nodded and thanked her, before I went back out to the others and stood next to Jaime, causing him to place his arm around my shoulders and look down at me grinning. I smiled back, and snuggled up closer to him, enjoying the warmth that was radiating off him.

“Let’s go before Mama Fuentes kills us.” Jaime shouted as we all just stood there talking.
