I Don't Know How To Do Right

I open the door for Tanya, she’s all smiles until she sees both of our faces. “Yes, cuz.” I say looking at this cute short hair, chinky, and Latina girl. She can tell that I’m acting weird by the look on my face. “Um. Well, we need to go grocery shopping tomorrow..” She wanders at both of us. She’s, of course suspecting something. She looks to Vic, who is still sitting on my bed, “Vic. Hi. You okay?” He grins at her, “I’m fine. Thanks for asking.” I look at her with fear in my eyes. Then, I hear Vic get up from my bed, “I. Um.. I actually should get going.” He looks at Tanya and then to me. His lips are almost frowning and It looks like he doesn’t want to go..

I watch his expression and it’s true. “Bye Vic.” And that’s what I fucken say. His face drops a little and then looks to Tanya. “Later Tanya.” She waves and we watch as he leaves. Then, she turns to look at me with a shocked expression. “Stop! Nothing happened!” I exclaim rolling my eyes. “Come on!” She bounces up and down in one spot. “I’m going to bed.” And I close the door on her as she frowns at me. “I’m worried about you Tiff!” she shouts. “I’m fine!” I shout back. I walk to my bed and fall fast onto it. “I’m fine.” I tell myself.

I lay awake and I cannot get that feeling and image out of my head. He just leaned forward and kissed me. He acted like it was available to do so. HE KISSED ME. But, I kissed him back. Did I mean to? It’s late and he won’t leave my mind.

Weeks past and I’ve only hung out with Mike and my new friend, Chelsea. And of course my roommates. Vic and I haven’t talked since the kiss. I miss him. But, I don’t trust how I will act with him now.

Steven texts me. I have no emotion. Maybe a grin. I reply without thinking. Of course.

I hear Mike trying to get my attention. “Hey. Hey.” he snaps looking at me. I look at him, “There’s a kickback and I would love it if you gals came.” Chelsea nods and “Sure.” I say without thinking. Again.

He drives onto his driveway, with multiple people standing outside, holding red cups. Liquor. What I need. I freeze, blanked out. Shit, I’m gonna see Vic. Mike comes around to my door and opens it. I flinch at the sight of him, “Come on, let’s go.” I slowly get out and notice people staring at me. I grin at them and follow Mike inside. I wonder where Chelsea went. At first glance, there is no sight of Vic. And I’m feeling alright.

Hell no. I’m nervous.

Mike walks off and I’m standing alone near the front door, wondering around this big living room space, looking a bit lost, and then someone bumps into me. “Oh, I’m so sorry.” It’s a dude. I turn and he has tattoos all over his arms, butt chin, big plugs, and a huge smile. “It’s fine.” and I step forward, “Hey, what’s your name?” He stops me. “I’m Tiffany.” I say as I glance around looking for Mike. There’s no sight of him. And, oh yes, there he is. With his girlfriend, Gabriela. I turn to the cutie and he has his hand out. I shake it and I know he’s making an observation. I look at him and he’s actually just smiling at me. I blush and I notice his tattoos. They’re Lord of The Rings! “You know the Fuentes brothers?” he asks. I nod, “Yes.” “Oh me too. I’m roommates with them.” I’m shocked, “Really? I’ve never seen you.”

He giggles, “It’s cause I’m always gaming and stuff.” I giggle, “Well, that’s a way to escape from things.” He laughs nodding and I’m over here grinning. “Did you just move here?” I nod again, “About a year ago and I’m from the San Fernando Valley.” I look at him. He’s light skin, gray big eyes, and he has the cutest smile. He looks familiar.. “Oh yeah? I’d love to check that place out.” I blush, “We should. I’ll show you the best wangsters ever.” He laughs and it’s so cute. “Here, let me get you a drink.” he smiles and leaves to get me a drink.

I grin. It’s been a while since I’ve chatted with someone who takes interest in me.

He comes back and hands me a beer. I taste it and it’s fruity. I actually like it. I don’t usually like beer, but this stuff’s good. “Thanks, it’s really good.” “No problem.” he’s smiling.

We chat and we actually have things in common. He’s so giggly and playful. It reminds me of being a kid.

Then, this guy with glasses walks over to us and greets him. They talk playfully but seriously. He smiles at me and I grin. They finish and the guy walks out the front door. “So, you never told me your name.” I say. “Daniel.” he smiles, almost giggling. I grin. “That was Dave.” he points out. “And we’re gonna go jumping right now.” I look at him confused. He giggles, “Skydiving.” I laugh, “Oh. I’ve always wanted to do that.” He smiles, “You should! Maybe, we can go someday.” I grin, “I’d like that.” What am I thinking?! He nods with a smile. “It was really nice meeting you Tiff.” I smile, “You too.” and then he’s gone. I continue sipping my drink. He’s cute. We’ll see how that goes. You’re crazy. Stop it!

I turn to my left and I see Vic staring. He’s wearing his usual snapback. How long as he been watching? Did he see the whole thing? He’s walking towards me and I’m panicking. My heart’s beating fast! Oh no. He’s gonna wanna talk. I take a sip of my drink and he’s coming closer.

He’s looking at me. “No jack tonight?” And I’m stunned by his words and what comes out my mouth is a giggle, “Nope, just going easy. Well, let’s see how the night goes.” He chuckles showing his front top teeth, “That’s the Tiff I know!” I chuckle softly as he does.

We then become serious. “So, Daniel huh?” I giggle at the thought of him, “I just met him.” He grins, “I never knew you had a thing for nerds.” I’m eyeing him like I don’t know what he’s talking about. Then, I realize that he’s just jealous. “Are you jealous?” I’m literally smirking. He’s chuckling, “What no!” and shakes his head. “I have no reason to be..” And my smirk falls. He forgot about the kiss? Well, he should. It was nothing..

I crack a laugh. “He’s great. Great man.” He says smiling now. I grin and nod. Confused really. “Okay, Vicster.”

He giggles and then we get quiet.“Tiff..” he starts not looking directly at me and he’s moving around a little. I can tell that he’s nervous too. I look up at this brown little boy. “Vic.. I don’t..” I’m stuttering. “We’re just homies, y’know? Dawgs for life.” One palm is shaking as I wait for him to answer..

He ends up giggling, “Yeah, it was weird.” Weird? Okay.. “Come on, let’s go play beer pong.” he says putting his arm around my shoulder as we walk towards the beer pong table that is near the kitchen. What just happened? I didn’t.. I didn’t expect an answer like that. Maybe, I’m just being weird.

A few people are surrounding the beer pong table as we wait for our turn. The people around the table are really friendly. It’s nice.

“HAH!” I shout as I made the ball into Vic’s last cup. He shrugs disappointingly and you can hear all the oh’s beside us. “Sorry Vic. You’re gonna have to drink it all.” I grin, deviously at him. He chuckles, “Fine.” He picks up his last cup from the table, and chugs it. “Oh!!!!!!” Everyone’s cheering at him. I’m laughing at him and then I completely stop to look at him. Our friendship is too wonderful for me to fuck it up. He puts down his cup and wipes his face. He’s looking at me with a big smile.

I feel as if it were just the two of us in this room. He’s staring at me and I’m doing it back. I’m not sure what he’s feeling as of now, but he’s my bestfriend.. We both. Or just me, know the kiss meant something. “Hey! Our turn!” Ashton exclaims standing by me. We brake our gaze, meeting each other by the couch that’s across the table. Now, we watch as Ashton and Maya play against each other. Vic puts his arm around my waist and I feel a squeeze. “Good game bestie.” I look up at him and he’s just watching them play. What the hell? And he lets go, cheering, once Ashton scores. Okay..

We watch as more people play. and then Vic asks me to get some fresh air with him. I nod and we walk outside to the front, greeting people and such. We walk a little further, where the curb is, away from everybody. “You know, I spent my years in highschool watching Batman and this almost tops it.” I say. He giggles, “Batman? He’s awesome. Glad you’re enjoying yourself.” He smiles, showing his front white teeth. I glance at his outfit and he’s wearing a black and white Love Before Glory t-shirt, with blue jeans. “Do your parents ever come by? I would love some burritos!” I love hanging with his parents. They are seriously the most awesomest parents ever. And burritos. I love them. He chuckles loudly, “Remind me to take you to this burrito place. And yeah they come by. Why?” I’m giggling, “Besides the obvious and I love chatting with your mom.” I’m smiling. He chuckles with a grin, “I’ll let her know you miss her.” I smile at him and he wraps his arms around my waist, and pulls me into a hug. I hug him back, wrapping my arms around his neck, feeling warm, and happy to be here. We’ve always been this close.

“Vic!” I hear this girl shout from across the front lawn. We both turn to look at her and she’s walking our way. She’s all smiles and really pretty. They talk playfully. Something about a car. Me, minding my own business, looking around at how big his house is, and I see him get comfortable with her. He has his hand on her waist and she’s poking his face. Am I interrupting something? Vic talks and talks to her and I’m just standing here. Like I’m invisible. I feel the urge of jealousy in me. What the hell!!! I watch her get closer to him and he’s letting her, especially after we kissed! Ugh! Fuck this! And I built the courage to walk away from them because, GET A ROOM!

I randomly find Mike with Gabriela and I hug her in warmth as does she. She’s very cute and petite. We talk and catch up. She takes a few pics of me chugging another bottle of beer. And then Mike takes a pic of us with our arms wrapped around each other, trying to drink our beer. I glance to my left side and see Vic watching as he walks our way. I ignore him and chug my drink. Then, Mike hands us each 3 shots, filled with whiskey. We chug each of them and we get the attention of few and they chant. We laugh spilling some on our shirts. Fail. We gasp for air, “Yeay!” and then giggle looking at each other. Mike high fives us both and people clap. This is nothing. lol. Vic’s standing by Mike now, watching me like a hawk, and I ignore him. “Wanna go wash this off?” I ask Gabriela. “Totally.” she nods.

We’re at the bathroom and Gabriela turns to me, “Do you and Vic have something going on?” I laugh it off, “No. Why? I met his roommate today and he’s pretty cute.” She nudges me with her “get some” face. I laugh, “You two seem like you have some tension between each other, though.” she says. “Who and who?” “You and Vic.” she’s serious now. Of course she would notice. And then I see Vic waiting by the door. She notices and gives me a “be careful” look, “I’ll be with Mike.” I nod and turn to him. He walks towards me, “What?” I say, a little irritated. “Why’d you leave me? I was gonna talk to you.” “You seemed busy.” I laugh hiding my jealousy. But of course he sees my expression, “Are you jealous?” My eyes widened and I haha. “OKAY. Wow.” I say sarcastically and walk right past him. He watches me, giggling almost, “Do you have a problem?” I turn around to look at him, “No, I don’t.” And walk off.

I’m chatting with this dude and his girl about tattoos. They own a tattoo parlor that’s near my house. “Dude, I gotta check yo place out.” I say. “I wanna get another piece done.” They nod and the guy hands me a card, “Please do!” he exclaims. “He’s excellent at realistic colors and I do black and white.” the girl explains. She’s wearing a lot of pink for someone who does black and white ink. I giggle a little. Then, I leave my thoughts and nod, “I gotta check it out.” And then my phone rings, “Excuse me.” and I walk to the empty kitchen to answer my phone. It’s Steven.

“Hello.” he starts. “Wanna hang now?” I’m thinking. I really don’t want to. I think things through. Which I usually don’t. Is it because of Vic? What? No! “I’ll let you know.” “K. Call me.” he says. I’m a bit annoyed by him. I don’t want to be with him tonight.

11 p.m. I say goodbye to Mike and Gabriela with a kiss on the cheek. I’m walking to the front door and turn around to get one last look. Vic’s not around at all. I shrug and now I’m on my way home.

Surprisingly, the girls are home. I don’t realize it, but I’m walking in with a frown. Sara looks at me from the dining table, “Why are you sad, darling?” She’s way shorter than me. She’s the therapist girl. She has long black hair, chinky eyes, and she’s tan. They all know about my problems and Steven. All of them stare at me, worried. “I didn’t realize I was sad.” They slowly shake their heads, “How was the party?” Tanya asks. I look at her. She’s the most playful one of us all. She’s got that hispanic flavor, shoulder length black hair, and curvy. “Fun.” I give them a reassuring smile as I sit down on the couch. They nod as they pick up the plates from the dinner table and put them in the sink.

Sara walks over and sits beside me, gesturing my arms. “Whatever it is, do what feels right. What makes you happy.” I turn to look at her and she’s staring at me, “I don’t know how to do right. You know that.” She sighs, “You heard it all from the wrong people for far too long and it’s not true.” Melody joins in, sitting beside her, “You gotta do what’s best for you.” “You are stronger than you think, Tiff.” Tanya says as she walks towards us.

I stand up immediately. I’m irritated and I look at them, “I’m fine guys. I’m tired. And I don’t wanna talk about it. Thanks.” and I quickly walk to my room. They look at each other worriedly. “Just give her time.” Sara says looking down.

They really gotta stop worrying so damn much about me.

I’m laying down on my bed, contemplating on calling Steven, because he might give me what’s right. But, I, for some reason, refuse. I don’t want him. Thought’s that I wish I didn’t have are running through my mind. Thinking of my child/teen years, up until here. One of the best years I have ever had was coming to San Diego. Vic pops up in my mind. It hasn’t been long since we met but, he brings me joys. The times where I needed happiness, he does it. He does it well. I’ve been like this for hours and Vic won’t leave my mind. And I, without thinking, drive to his house.

I slowly walk to the front door and I pound on it, impatiently. Shit! I haven’t been thinking this whole time! What am I gonna say? What am I doing here?!? My heart’s pounding in my chest. I’ve never felt like this before. It’s crazy. I try to breathe but I can’t… And there he is. Vic. Looking at me surprised. He’s wearing his teenage mutant ninja turtle sweats and a shirt that I recently gave him. I awe at the shirt and giggle at his childish features right now. He stares at me, watching my expression, “Are you okay??” I look up at him, and suddenly, I feel calm. “I.. I..” and words fail me. “Come inside.” he says stepping aside, letting me through. I walk in, slowly, and turn to him. He’s looking at me curiously and confused, wanting answers from me. I, without thinking, hug him. Wrapping my arms around his torso, and not letting go. I feel his arms go around me, and he’s gesturing my back. I don’t wanna let go..

I sit on his bed, thinking of what to say to him. To explain why I’m here. But, I don’t even know why I’m here.

He walks in carrying a water bottle and he hands it to me as he sits beside me. I twist the cap to open it and take small sips of it. “Thank you.” He nods as he watches me. My expression is blank as I look at the ground. “Tiff, what’s wrong?” he finally says. I look up at him and his face is still worried. I quickly look away but, he lays his hand on my right cheek to make me look at him. “I’m here for you. I will always be.” He’s serious and I believe him. I lay back on his bed and he meets me there. He’s grinning. “I don’t think we ever slept together.” he quotes the last two words with his fingers. I giggle softly, “No, we haven’t.”

Soon after that, we fall into a deep sleep, comfortably laying beside each other.
