Stolen Moments

Repeat That Word

“Tony, come here! You gotta see this!” Mike said excitedly, quickly closing the curtain to Jaime’s bunk for the tenth time, “I found Vic.”

“If Vic’s in there, where’s Jaime?” Tony asked, stopping beside Mike, wondering why the elder was grinning so largely.

“Oh, I found him too,” he grinned, lifting the curtain once more, “Voila! Do we wake ‘em up, or..?”

Tony laughed as the curtain lifted. Jaime had Vic enveloped in his arms, and Vic’s face was tucked into his neck, their legs tangled together. It was a cute sight, and also a revealing one; the duo really had been lying to their faces.

“Nah, let them sleep,” he said with a shrug, taking Mike’s hand off the curtain to let it fall.

“Do we tell them we know..?”

“I…I don’t know, honestly. We’ll figure that out later.”

“Aren’t they just adorable,” Mike teased as he lifted the curtain once more. Letting it fall, he moved past Tony.

“Mhm…” Tony replied, deep in thought.

“Well, now that we’ve found them, I’m bored. Wanna go crash some bicycles?”

“Maybe not crash ‘em, but sure,” he said softly, pushing Mike out of his way.

“Hey now, no need for violence!” Mike called with a laugh, jogging behind his friend. His mind was stuck back in the bunk with his brother, wondering why he hadn’t realized what was going on a lot sooner. Tony had voiced his thoughts months ago, but he really hadn’t thought the younger man to be right. Vic was his brother, after all; he would have told Mike, or, at the very least, Mike would have been able to see signs of the secret relationship. However, he hadn’t, and that was confusing him. Why hadn’t he been able to see the same signs Tony saw? Maybe, he decided, he had turned a blind eye after the confusion that so many had falling into over his and Tony’s friendship. He shrugged and stepped off the bus, running into a very confused Tony.

“Dude, did we even bring the bikes this time?”

“I’m pretty sure we did. Didn’t we?”

“I dunno. Do you remember getting them?”

“Me? That was your job, doofus. C’mon, let’s go see if we can find them!” Mike said, grabbing Tony’s arm and pulling him away from the bus. He needed to get his mind off his brother, at least until he found out the complete situation.

Jaime turned in Vic’s arms, stretching his body out with a yawn. At some point, their positions had changed, and Jaime was now wrapped securely in Vic’s arms. Vic smiled and placed a light kiss on his temple as his eyes opened slowly.

“No more nightmares, right?” Vic whispered softly, the memory of how afraid he had been last night flashed before his eyes.

“Not a single one…thanks to you,” he said with a soft laugh, “Can I get up?”

“Do you have to? I like holding you…” Vic murmured, wrapping his arms tighter around Jaime and pressing their foreheads together softly so that he could see Jaime’s dark eyes which slid closed as Jaime laughed breathily.

“Vic…”

“Yeah?”

“I have to piss, man.”

“Oh,” Vic held back his laughter, “you can go, then,” he pulled his arms back slowly and grinned, pushing his hands forward until they connected with Jaime’s chest. He fell from the bunk, landing on the ground with a loud thump.

“Awh, did I make poor Victor mad?” he teased as he stood and walked away.

“Not at all, darling!” Vic called, watching the ceiling of the bunk. He really didn’t feel the need to get up, not even after Jaime popped his head back in. They kissed softly before Jaime broke away, saying that he was going to head outside. Vic said he’d be out soon, then listened for the bus door to open and close. He pulled himself from the bunk and started getting ready.

He stared at himself in the mirror, wondering how much longer he was going to be able to keep his relationship with Jaime a secret. He felt so guilty for not telling Mike, but he never noticed any signs from Jaime that it would be okay to tell anyone. He sighed and left their home away from home, letting himself smile as the warm sun hit his face. He made his way over to where Mike, Tony and Jaime were huddled together, discussing their plans for the day.

“Sleeping beauty has awakened!” Mike exclaimed, his smile not reaching his curious eyes.

“Aye, shut up,” Vic said with a slight giggle as Jaime grinned down at the phone in his hands, apparently happy with whatever he was seeing.

“You alright, Jaime?” Tony asked, glancing at Vic who shrugged.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Actually, I have to go do something. You guys won’t miss me too much, will you?” he joked.

“You’re leaving us, Hi-Me? But I can’t live without you!” Mike said pathetically, hiding his smile as he gripped his heart, feinting heartbreak.

“Shut your face, Mike, I’ll be back,” he said with a laugh.

“Not soon enough, though!” Tony played along. Vic covered his mouth to keep from laughing.

“Where are you off to, Jaime? Want me to come with you?”

“No, man, it’s fine. I’ve just gotta go pick something up for my girlfriend. Kill birds with stones, ya know?” he said nonchalantly as Vic’s heart stopped, “I’ll be back in an hour or so. See you three tonight!” he called over his shoulder as he walked away.

The trio was silent. Mike and Tony sent silent questions, glancing at Vic whose wide eyes watched the path the Jaime had taken.

“Jaime has a girlfriend?” he questioned softly.

“It seems that way, doesn’t it?” Mike asked, taking a small step towards his brother.

“Yeah…” Tony said, at a slight loss for words, “I’ll…I’m going to walk a little…” he mumbled, turning away. He had been so sure of Vic and Jaime’s relationship that he had never seen anything like this coming, but apparently neither had Vic.

“You okay, Vic? You look like you’ve seen a ghost, bro,” Mike laid a soft hand on his brothers shoulder, watching while the pain in the older boys eyes turned steely as his jaw set. He cracked a fake smile and shrugged.

“Of course, why wouldn’t I be, Mike?” he questioned.

“I dunno, man, that’s why I asked. You haven’t eaten, have you? C’mon, let’s go get some breakfast?” he offered, trying to get his brother away from whatever place his mind was wandering.

“Yeah, sure. Let’s do that…” he said, stealing one last glance in the direction Jaime had disappeared into before following his younger brother. Mike pretended not to notice the way Vic was acting like a wounded puppy because maybe, it seemed, Vic didn’t know the entire situation either.

Jaime walked away from his friends, feeling sure that Vic would catch his lie and understand. Maybe he could have picked a better excuse, but the words tumbled from his mouth faster than he could think of them. It was an easy lie, one that no one would question. Except Vic, but Vic knew him well enough to see right through him, surely. Now all he would have to deal with would be hiding what he really did from everyone, and dodging the big question that he knew Mike and Tony would ask. He could see his arrival back tonight already.

“So, who’s the lucky lady, Jaime?” Tony would probably ask as soon as he got back. “More importantly, what did you get her?” Mike would follow up. Vic would laugh, but his eyes would be filled with questions that he would probably ask once they were both alone. Which was a good thing; there were some questions that Jaime wanted to ask Vic anyway. He isn’t stupid, he wouldn’t fall for Jaime’s stupid lie. Would he?

‘You’re worrying yourself, Hi-Me, calm down,’ he told himself deciding to focus on what he was doing and where he was going instead of what he’s already done.

*** *** ***

Tony sauntered away from the brothers, trying to see what he had missed. Could he really have misread the entire situation so badly? The situation was starting to remind him of all the people who were convinced that he and Mike were once in a relationship. Maybe he had just been around everyone too much for too long; he was starting to see things that weren’t happening. Maybe Jaime really hadn’t been lying when he said nothing was going on between he and Vic. If that was true, then why had Jaime answered his question the other night, and why had he and Vic slept together last night? ‘What the hell,’ Tony wondered, ‘is really going on here?’

Notes

I finally got this chapter finished. Okay, so, I tried my best. I knew what I wanted to do when I went in to write this, but I had so many issues with how to write it, but finally I think I got it well enough. Is anyone actually reading this story on here?

hey there :) i'm working on it. i have plans for this fic, but at the moment i just don't know how to get it actually going. i was working on another story on mibba that's halted as well. for both of them, i've been thinking nonstop since the last day i updated on how i could continue. i have some other story ideas bouncing around in my head right now that are distracting me currently, though, so if i end up writing them i'll put them on mibba for all of you to read while you wait for me to not be a terrible author and continue this story.
oh this is amazinggggg <3 please upodate soon?
@clairephernelia Thank you! I've noticed that a lot of shipfics like this end up in nothing but smut, and I want to try and actually keep away from letting it turn into that. A story can be so much more without it, ya know?

@TheDreadfullLullaby thank you so much! I'm working on the next chapter, so hopefully I'll be able to shell it out this week :) And I love your username; SWPB is fantastic :)
