You'd Do The Same

I'd Still Want More

I made my way through the crowded house in some hope of finding Devin. He and his girlfriend of nine months had broken up and he was determined to drink himself into a stupor. I finally found him talking animatedly to a group of people out on the back patio, “Conner!” he slurred attempting to walk over. “How much have you had tonight Dev, I preferably would not like to spend my morning in the ER because you gave yourself alcohol poisoning,” “God what are you my fucking parent, lighten the fuck up I-“he was cut off by spewing off the deck. After that he was ready to leave and I managed to dump him in the backseat of the car.
A tall man with tattoos littering his body was smoking on the front steps and cursing loudly at a phone. I approached him, “Do you need a ride?” I asked causing him to look up at me, he was pretty gone and I was surprised that he knew where he was. “Yeah that’d be great,” he followed me back to the car where Devin was asleep sprawled across the entire backseat. “Well he had fun didn’t he?” he asked nodding his back towards Devin. I laughed “Yeah I’m sure he did, I’m Conner by the way,” “I’m Mike, do you make it a habit to take drunk people home that you don’t even know?”. “Actually yes I’ve been known to do that quite frequently” I said with a laugh. It turned out that Mike lived a few blocks away from Devin and I and he thanked me about a million times before going to his front door, I made sure he made it inside before driving away.
This was always the fun part, getting Devin inside while he was passed out sometimes if I was lucky Danny was home and could help me get him inside, but I was on my own tonight. After I finally got Devin in bed and changed into clothed that didn’t smell like smoke and booze it was almost four in the morning and I attempted to sleep. See I had insomnia; I’ve been dealing with it since I was 17 and it was nothing new to me. I was stubborn and didn’t like taking sleeping pills until I felt like I was going to die from lack of sleep. This was generally when I would draw or something but tonight I decided to film a video. “Hey guys it’s like four in the morning here and I can’t sleep so I decided to do a little vlog. I went to a party tonight and played wallflower like I generally do, it’s not that I don’t like interacting with people because I do. But I don’t like being in a place where I know absolutely no one and all of those strangers are drunk and or high.” I filmed for a little bit longer and got some good rage gamer footage that I’ve been promising for quite a while. After I finished editing and posted the video on YouTube it was almost six and I felt tired enough to sleep. I layed down in my bed and fell into a dreamless sleep.

“Please Conner, I wouldn’t call you to come in if I didn’t absolutely need you in here” Jason my boss was pleading me to come in on one of my days off. “Alright but you fucking owe me dude”. I’d been awoken after only getting to sleep about four hours and asked to come into the coffee shop I worked at, apparently someone quit and Ben had the flu so it was up to me to come in while Jason dealt with whatever he had to deal with today. On my console I noticed a phone that was neither mine nor Devin’s; it must have been Mike’s from last night, I also noticed a wallet on the passenger floor also his, “Guess I’ll be making a stop on my way to work”.
I made my way up the steps and knocked loudly on the door, a man with long curly hair answered the door. “Hello?” he said giving me a questioning look, “I gave Mike a ride home last night and he left both his wallet and phone in my car and I figured he might be missing them”. He laughed, “Mike isn’t awake yet, probably won’t be until after noon. Thanks for giving him a lift home I worry about him sometimes”. “No problem, I never mind giving people rides, then I know for sure they’re not getting in the car with someone who’s been drinking or try driving themselves. I don't mean to sound rude but I'm late for a shift I'm not even scheduled for” I lsaid while walking back down the stairs. He called something out while I was leaving but I didn't hear what.

Jason looked so relieved when I walked through the door, apparently his brother was flying in from Florida and had forgotten to tell Jason. “I’ll just go get him, drop him off at my place and be back here in no time I promise”. After I assured him that I had everything under control he left and I started to get everything in place. He was in such a rush that he’s only partially opened the store I had to put all of the baked goods into the case and grabbed more cups from the back. Jason always had a Pandora station on so there was what he called “good music” playing, we’ve had people leave because it wasn’t their type but Jason didn’t quite care. I started working for him when I was 19 and worked at his other place before it burned down last fall.
I was putting some stuff away in the back when I heard the door open followed by two male voices, “I’ll be with you guys in just a sec” I said as I put some extra stuff into the large fridge. As I walked out I noticed a guy with spikey black hair and a shorter guy with long hair and a snapback on. “How may I help you gentlemen today?” I asked while setting up the register on the computer. The guy in the snapback stared at me for a minute before he exclaimed, “You’re the guy that brought back Mike’s stuff earlier aren’t you! I’m his brother Vic and this is Jaime,” he said pointing to the spiky haired guy. “How long has this place been here? I’ve never noticed it before it’s pretty sick” “Uh we used to be in a different area of town for several years before the building next to ours caught on fire burning our building down as well as their own. Jason was pretty devastated as he worked hard building it up.” I explained as I made their drinks. I noticed Jaime looking at some of the guitars on the wall and Vic observing some of the framed pictures on the walls, "Those are really good. Who did them?" Vic asked after he wandered back over to the counter. "I did," I replied while putting all of thier drinks into carriers. His eyes widened, "That's really good photography. It looks professional," he replied slipping a bill into my tip jar and grabbing one of the drink carriers. Jaime gave me a grin and grabbed the other one, "Have a good day," I called out after them. I pulled the bill out of the jar that Vic had put in and noticed it was actually two twenty dollar bills. "Who the fuck leaves a $40 tip for eight drinks?" I questioned pocketing the money.

Notes

So this is posted on Mibba as well as here. I'm posting the chapters I have done but after that I'll be on a short hiatus until June 17. After that I'll be done with school and my updates will be a lot more frequent. Feedback would be greatly appreciated :)
