I Never Wanted It To Be This Way
*4 Months later*
I serve food to customers until five o'clock when I can leave this hell of a job. I really don't like being a restaurant waitress. People want everything fast, they think they are the only one's in the restaurant and that everything is really fast. It's not quite a so-called fancy restaurant more like a fast food place where you serve your customers.
I hang my apron up and grab my bag and place it over my shoulder. I headed to the back of the shop. I step out as the wind make my hair fly around my face, I push it aside and head towards my home. My new home I should say. After leaving right after literally graduating I moved to LA with my mom,brother and sister, I lived with them for a while but I decided to move out since I've gotten pretty annoyed with my mom's rules; like bringing my friend over or my sleeping time. I don't live to far from them though. Even my brother Jack moved out to his new apartment; basically now we've all gone our separate ways but we all still live close to each other. Maybe just two-three blocks away.
Things were actually looking good so far. No drama. No nothing. I live in my own place. I still keep in touch with some old friends back in San Diego but not with all of them. I hadn't lost touch with my closest friend Kimberly clearly since I convinced her to move in with me into my new house in LA.
It wasn't the best life, but it was okay.
I get in my car and head home. I speed my way there since I was really tired of working all day. Soon I find myself in my house. I drop my bags on the floor and go straight up to my room.
I threw myself on my bed and close my eyes. I was falling asleep when there's a knock on my bedroom door.
"Whaaat?!" I whined.
"Melodee Can I come in?"
"Sure Kim get in here!" I heard the door open and saw Kimberly running towards me, she jumps on the bed which made me almost fall off. I roll my eyes at her.
" Mel I'm bored! Let's watch a movie or something!" I roll my eyes once again as I sit up. I rest my back on the cold wall, I slip my phone out ignoring her comment.
"Please Mel!"
"Kim did you even go to work today?" I laugh, completely changing the subject. "Yes..Maybe...Okay no! There you caught me! It's just I'm so lazy." Kim whined. "Yes, yes everyone knows you are lazy!" I laugh as she gets the pillow from behind her back. She sits up and smashes the pillow to my face. I quickly stood up and did the same. I drop her to the floor by hitting her once more, I hit her on her back and threw the pillow back on the bed as I laugh.
"What did you want anyways?" I ask as I pick her from the floor. Kim sighs as she stood up, she dust herself up and takes a seat next to me on my bed.
"I want my babe back!" I see a tear roll down her cheek. "Your babe?" I ask, she stands up and shakes herself up. "Forget it! Lets' watch a movie or something." I knew exactly what she was talking about but she knew I never really liked the topic so we really never had a real conversation about it. I shrug it off and nod.
"What do we watch?" She asks.
"Really we are going to watch a movie? it's barely five lets go out or something." I suggest. Even if I'm tired I knew I had to go out to get my mind off things. Kimberly's comment made my head hurt and it's just horrible.
"For reals okay!"Kimberly's grin grew wide. "I thought you were tired that's why I didn't ask your butt out.." Kimberly mumbles as she walks towards her bag. She places it around her shoulder and I did the same with mine.
"I heard that you know." I smirk at her. Her cheeks turn red. "Oh." We stepped out it was practically
still day but it was dark out.
I see Kimberly slip her phone out and text someone and place back into her jeans. "Who was that?" I ask not making eye contact but I could see the grin on her face.
"No one, hey let me drive I want to take you somewhere." I furrow my eyebrows in confusion but shrugged it off. Probably messaging her friends back in SD. I wish it was that easy for me, but something wasn't letting me go back to those years in high school.
Kimberly blind folded me; which made, me suspicious to where we were heading. I feel the car stop.
Kim and I stepped inside the house. Someone removed the blind fold. "Kim why is it so dark in here?" I ask.
" I don't know, let me check." She walk towards the kitchen, I made my way into the TV room. This is my brother's house, I wonder what we are doing here.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY MELODEE!” They all shouted in unison.
"OH MY GOSH! YOU GUYS!!" I jumped all around. Jack's place is now transformed and packed with so many people it’s crazy. Everyone was here, my brother and his girlfriend, my mom, sister, and even my grandma. Some of my old high school friends as well. Even my god Kellin and the guys what are they doing here, I wonder how they even reach them since I've lost contact with them. Basically everyone that matters is here. Every one except Tony and them..
After that it went all pitched black for me, people hurried over to me and gave me fists and hugs, wishing me a happy birthday. I have completely forgot it was even my birthday today. I am nine-teen now.
I just wish everything would be great for the rest of my life.
"Hey my little Mel happy birthday!" Kellin picked me up and gave me a tight squeeze.
"Dude Kellin what are you doing here?" I ask with a chuckle.
"Oh Mel, Kimberly text me one day and we met and planned the whole thing with your brother!" He winked as he laughed.
"Oh that Kim! Wow I see you got famous uh!" I hit his arm playfully.
"Yeah we're getting there."
"Yeah what it's been like four months since I've seen you though."
"Yes! You left us right after we graduated." He laughs. People were all dancing, drinking and having fun. I left Kellin with his girlfriend katelynne.
I swallowed my beer hard as I danced my butt out. I guess I wasn't so tired.
I can see from the corner of my eye that someone was walking towards me.
"Melodee Happy birthday!" He chucked his chin out and I turned around to find my brother's friend walking in all smiles and happy.
"Oh hey! I remember you!" It was funny thing he was here I remembered exactly the first day I met him I was In third grade and he was in eight grade; now I'mnine-teen. I've seen him of course later on but not since I was in eight grade and he was a senior graduating.
I use to have a crush on him, it was cute though, I would always tell him and he'll laugh at me. I mean who wouldn't like him; he was my same height. His dreamy gray-blueish eyes. His short hair. He wasn't like other boys, he didn't played with girl's feelings that is what I liked about him. He was not like other dreamy boys; he actually cared. He was not one of those popular boys but still he was awesome and all. But that was when I was small.
"I still remember the night you tried to kiss me through the window." He said with a smirk, I laughed remembering that night.
"Hey! I was twelve okay!?" I reply in defense.
"Yeah okay. So your getting old ew!" He scrunched his face and made a gag sound. I shook my head and laugh at his disgusted face of me.
"I'm playing! Well Melodee I'll see you later I'm going to go see your bro Jack." I nod and he gave me a hug.
The rest of the night was amazing. We all took pictures and drank. I was pretty drunk, I have to admit. It was one of the best nights I've had since who knows when.
"Mel.." Someone whispers, I look up from the couch I was lying at.
"Yeah kells?" I ask rubbing my eyes.
"Guess who wished you a happy birthday!?"
"Who?" I ask sitting up. The whole house was a mess. People were sleeping on the floor, some even on the counter. "Tony!" Kellin's voice sounded really excited to hear my reaction to his response.
I turn my focus back to Kellin wide eyed. Kellin had told Tony about this. Oh I hope he didn't tell him where we are. I don't think I am ready to face him.
I don't think I even want to.
"Oh that's cool!" I fake smile. "What do you want me to tell him for you?" He asks. "Nothing." I immediately reply. I don't want to think about them right now, now that my life is looking good.
