Roots Beneath Ideals

Finally Home (edited)

Vic and I pulled up to V&M after about an hour of more driving. Now I can say I'm starved. As we pulled up, I noticed something. Vic picked up on it right away.

"Just come inside." Vic said as he noticed my look.

Vic and I were greeted by a couple as we stepped in.

"There she is. Look how big you've gotten. Vic you didn't cause my favorite customer any problems did you?"

It was Rick, the owner of the old Jamaican restaurant.

"Of course not... Well I did cause a little coughing fit, but she's fine now."

"Hi honey, it's so nice to see you," Ricks wife, Cassi came and embraced me.

" I know you’re probably confused, but your spot is still here. Cassi and I have been talking about adding her taste too, you know for the non-meat lovers." He pointed to Vic.

I had totally forgotten that Cassi was a vegetarian. Now that I think about it, she was always talking to Vic about new menu ideas. It all makes sense now. Now I’m kind of considering to try their new stuff.

"Go grab a seat." Cassi told us.

"Okay."

Vic and I took our normal seat by the front window. He kept looking at his phone smiling.
I want to know what's going on, but I don't want to be all in his business, but come on. I only ever see him smile like this when I tell him a corny joke or say something sweet to him for once. It might just be Mike. No, it can’t be. Who is he talking to?

I sighed in frustration, which caused Vic to look up.

"Why do you look so confused?" Vic asked taking hold of my hand.

I shrugged.

Vic tilted his head, making his hair fall over his eyes, "Keri?"

I smiled moving his hair, "I'm fine, just hungry."

Vic took my hand and kissed it, "You're always hungry. You can't function without stuffing your face every five minutes." He teased.

"That's not true," I pouted.

Vic found my pouting funny and began pinching my cheeks.

I swatted at his hands, "You were just complaining to me in the car about having your cheeks pinched, so why are you doing it to me, stop."

Yet he continued, "Because you’re so cute Chubby cheeks."

My eyes grew wide as Vic referred me by my childhood nickname. I moved his hands and covered my cheeks.

"My cheeks aren't chubby anymore."

"Yes they are."

"Stop teasing me. I'm going to cause a scene, but you'll have to wait until I'm done eating," I told him as I say Rick come our way.

"Okay, an eggplant sandwich and a platter of oxtail with plantains for the lady."

"Thanks Rick you're honestly the best ever."

"I know." He then pulled a chair over. "So, it's been two years, how's school going, have any guys asked you out yet? How many people have you sent to jail?"

Vic coughed at the mention of other guys and I laughed.

"What?"

“We just had a conversation about that on the way here. Its kind of a rocky topic right now, but school is good. I haven't sent anyone to jail either, that's not what I'm going for." I said.

"But you want to be a defense lawyer, right?"

"Yeah, that doesn't mean that I send people to jail really. I'm trying to keep them from going or working out a deal."

"And you want to open your own practice too right?"

"Yup."

"Well, when you do, I'll need you to represent me just in case I accidentally hurt one of these hood boys out here. And what about you Mr. Fuentes? Oh, you know your boy does acoustic sets here every Sunday?"

"No I didn't. Thanks for telling me," I kicked Vic from under the table.

"Ow, I didn't think it was all that important."

"Everything that has to do with you and music is important."

"Sorry..."

"Hey how's that other lady friend of your, haven't seen her in a while."

Vic choked on his food.

I raised my brow, "Other lady friend?"

"No, no love it's not like that."

"Not like what?" I pressed.

Who the hell is this lady friend that I don't know of? I swear to God I will kill this man if he's cheating. He wouldn't but I swear.

"She..uh...um."

"Well?"

Vic cleared his throat, "We go to school together, and she’s really nice. I know you would love her and get along, because she's pretty much like you in all ways. She's just a friend."

"So why haven't I met her yet?"

"Oh you know..."

"I know what? Holy hell Vic will you just spit it out. If she's just a friend then she's just a friend. I'm not going to bite your head off for having a girl friend."

He let out a sigh of relief, "I just met her. I'm just not sure if I want you to meet her, since I like keeping you to myself also."

I smiled, "Aw babe, why didn't you just say so in the first place instead of freaking out?"

"I don't know, maybe because you can get really scary."

"Well I'm sorry."

"Well now that's out of the way, how are you two by the way? How's this whole long distance thing going?"

We both shrugged. Vic and I didn't exactly like putting our relationship out there. We brag about one another, but otherwise then we don't go into detail, our parents barely even know what happens in our relationship. We really like keeping to ourselves. Rick was kind of a gossip whore. He loved to gossip, listen to gossip, anything thing that had to do with gossip he loved. We just never let him in, like everyone else. He always wanted to know the "411" about us. Who even says 411 anymore?

"Oh come on, you do this all the time. Anything?"

"We're doing fine," I said.

"Yeah, since we're apart, it brings us closer to each other."

"So thinking of any kids in the future?"

I spit my water out, while Vic choked on his sandwich again, blushing.

"Rick, don't ask them those kind if questions. Keri is too busy studying for school and Vic is trying to focus on his music career. Do you honestly think they have time to even think about having kids, plus they're still young. They have plenty of time to think about that in the future," Cassi came over scolding.

Rick sunk into his seat, "Yeah, yeah, yeah."

I mouthed a thank you to her.

"Is there anything else I can get you both?"

"No."

"Okay. Vic will you still becoming Sunday now that Keri's here?"

"Yes ma'am. I learned those two songs you asked for also."

"Good boy, alright back to the kitchen Rick."

"But- yes love."

Vic and I laughed at Cassi's domination over Rick.

Vic's phone began to ring, "Oh I have to take this, I will be back." He placed a kiss on the top of my head before stepping outside.

When since does he take his phone calls away from me? Usually he just speaks in "code" as the guys would call it. Whatever.

I watched him walk out, talking to whoever. Vic noticed my staring and began blowing me kisses. I smiled blushing.

Why am I even worried, it's probably my parents or the guys. They must be planning something big.

He looked really excited to whoever he was talking to. Maybe it was his lady friend.

I laughed to myself, "His lady friend. No one says that anymore. Rick is so old school."

After a good ten minutes on the phone, Vic returned.

"Soooo, who was that?"

"No one important."

"Really now? Let me see your phone."

Vic laughed nervously, "What, don't believe me?"

I smiled, "Maybe."

"Well, Wednesday don't make any plans, the Early Times are doing a Christmas show to benefit children whose parents can't afford to buy them gifts. So I'm counting on you to be there."

"Have I ever missed a show?"

"Good point.”
♫♪♫♪
"Man I can't wait to see everyone." I said stretching as Vic pulled up in front of my house.

"More like everyone can't wait to see you."

"Just to think, I can sleep in my old comfy bed; have mom's homemade food, waking up late... Oh how I've missed San Diego."

Vic laughed, "Come on, let's go inside."

I unbuckled, hopping out of the car, "Home sweet home! Come on Vic you're taking too long."

I ran up the driveway to the front door of my house.

"Mom. Dad, I'm home!!"

"Welcome home sis!" Mike was the first to jump me, "Do you know how hard it is to do things without you around? We have lots of catching up to do."

"Yeah, we have a lot of new stuff for you to listen to. Mike let go of Keri, stop being a hog." Mitch said pushing Mike out of the way.

"You're both too clingy, move." Joe pushed both Mike and Mitch. "Hi Keri, nice to have you home."

"Alright all of you, off my daughter." My father boomed.

They all moved. My dad was a pretty scary guy, but he's a total teddy bear.

"Daddy!" I jumped into my dad's arms.

"Welcome home sweetheart."

I buried my face in my dad's chest, holding back the tears. If there was anyone I missed the most it was my dad since he was always gone for work. I barley got to see him as it was since he’s always working.

"Oh, you really don't know how much I've missed you. I'm so happy you came home."

"Well I couldn't miss my daughter on Christmas. I also have big plans for this break."

"Yay!"

Dad stepped back to look me over.

"Something seems...different... Did you gain weight?"

"I'd say," Vic chimed.

I shot them both looks, "For your information, I go to the gym three days a week."

"That's hard to believe lazy bone. And Victor, what took you so long to get my daughter home?"

Even though Vic grew up with my dad, he was still afraid of saying the wrong thing to him. More now that he knows we're dating.

I moved, wrapping my arms around Vic, "Aww, daddy leave him be. We got stuck in traffic and stopped for food."

"And sex." Mike coughed.

"No, not this time."

He smirked, "You dirty girl you."

Vic groaned, "Oh dear god, here we go."

I rolled my eyes, "Can we stray off the topic of Vic and my love life. Jeez it's always the main topic with you dad." I went to my mom hugging her, "Hi mom."

"Hi sweetie, you hungry?"

"Yes ma'am. Hey where are Emily and George?"

"They ran to the store to get your cake." Mike replied.

"Alright, let's get this part started!"

"Yeah!" The guys rejoiced.

Mike was the party DJ for the night, playing the "happening tracks" as he says. We ate, danced and caught up on everything, and I mean everything. Mike was still dating Stacey. Bleck. I still wasn't on good terms with her. Mike made the right choice, by not having her come. Dad... Always traveling. Nothing that I wouldn't have guessed. Mitch and Joe were doing a little side project and Mitch got a girlfriend. She was super pretty too; she was also my roommates’ sister, Chloe.

“I didn’t even realize that.” Mitch said.

“Yeah, they kind of don’t claim each other.” I told him, “But congrats, Chloe is a sweet girl.”

"Thanks. Ash is throwing some Christmas dinner tomorrow that she wants us to go to."

"You too!?"

"You’re going?"

"Yeah, Ash called me a while after Vic got me. Now everyone can officially meet Vic. Only she knows we're together."

"That's because she caught you two in action," Mike said low enough so our parents wouldn't hear.

Joe laughed, "Haha, wow. Good job bro." He put his hand up.

I stared Joe down.

"Oh don't be a buzz kill Keri."

"That isn't something to high five about, especially when the girlfriend is around."

"Yes it is."

"And you wonder why you can't get a girl of your own."

"Yes I can."

I rolled my eyes, "Two words. Ignorant and rude."

"That you are."

"You have to be kidding me. I just got home ad you're starting with me?"

"Yes."

"Oh my-fuck it. I'm going to walk away." I got up to leave the living room.

"Wait, Ker..." Vic called.

I put my hand up to dismiss him.

"All the time Joe. All the time. Why?"

I heard Vic say as I walked into the kitchen. Not even two hours of being back home and I already have to deal with bullshit. Ugh fuck him and his life, he’s going to die alone for all I know and I hope he does.

"What's wrong sweetie?" Emily asked as I took a seat.

"Nothing, I just wanted some feminine nature right now." I lied.

"Sure you do." Mom said.

I smiled, "What, I can't come hang out with my mothers?"

"Not when the guys are over. I guarantee you'll be going back to hang out with them in the next five minutes."

"Wow, thanks mom."

"How's school honey?" Emily asked.

"Hard."

"You still have plans for Harvard?"

"Yeah, if I can transfer my credits and raise enough for tuition. But that's only a dream."

"Have you already filled out an application?"

"Yes."

"Then why is it just a dream? You do know dreams come true."

"It's just... I don't know if my grades are good enough or if I'll have the money. Harvard is really hard to get into." I sighed, sinking into the seat.

Emily placed her hand over mine, "You were made Valedictorian of your senior class, and you had one of the best grades and still rank high in your class. You'll make it there. I know you will."

"She doesn't have the balls." Mom stated.

My jaw dropped from my mother’s statement.

"W-what? What do you mean?"

"You say you want and want and want, but you doubt yourself. How do you expect to last a semester if you continuously keep doubting yourself? Also, are you ready to leave Vic behind?"

I pressed my lips together, speechless. I never actually thought about the fact I would be away from Vic. It never crossed my mind, not once. I bet it has crossed his mind a million times over... God, how could I be so selfish? It will be okay though, I know it will. All Vic and I know is each other. I couldn’t live without him, and I know he feels the same. But why would Mom question me like that, she knows we already have a hard time as it is. Dealing with bullshit, check. Frustration from my mom, double check. What next is on the list?

"D-."

"No Emily, she's right, but doubt got me where I'm at today. I always doubted I'd go to UCLA since I immediately wanted to go to Harvard, but I'm there. I always doubted Vic and I would be together, but look, we've been dating happily for two years. The thing that I don't doubt is if I do make it to Harvard, Vic and I will continue our relationship, because I see myself with him for-."

"No you don't."

I was taken aback. What is my mothers deal today?

"What are you talking about, yes I do."

"Do you two plan on getting married sometime soon or something?"

"Mom, why are you acting like a bitch?"

"Because I'm your mother."

"That still doesn't give you the excuse to talk down on me the way you are. You're never like this, what's your deal?"

"I don't want to see you get hurt, if you plan on moving to Massachusetts for school. It won't be my fault if you come home to see Vic with another girl or already is with one."

Mom got up and left the room. I didn't know what to say to all of this or react, so I buried my face in my arm letting out a loud aggravated sigh.

Emily began rubbing my back, "Don't think anything of what your mother said. She's just sad you want to leave home for school, and she hopes you and Vic will stay together. I hope you and Vic stay together. I haven't seen you two so happy before and you've both been at your best ever since. I'm so happy. But don't worry, she’ll get over it."

"But why would she say something about Vic being with someone else. It's like she's saying he already is." My thought went back to his new friend.

Oh my God!

"Vic isn't like that, you know it. His whole life is dedicated to you and music."

"I know, I know, but this past year... We've barely seen each other. I've been getting a distant feeling from him too and he's always on his phone. Oh god Emily, what if he really is? It's all my fault.

"Honey, nothing is your fault."

"But -.

"Do you trust me?"

I nodded my head.

If anyone would know what Vic was up to it was Emily. She always kept her boys in check and out of trouble.

"Good. Believe me when I say my son isn't the one to do such a thing."

"You're right. It's probably nothing anyway, just over stressed from school."

"That's all it is. Now, I think your buddies are starting to miss you." Emily nodded her chin behind me.

I turned to see Vic standing there, almost nervously, "Um, there's one last surprise we have to show you."

"Is that so?"

"Yeah, it's in the back."

I raised a questioning brow, "What is it."

"Alright, everyone to the back. Keri has to see her surprise." Dad announced.

Vic displayed a mischievous smile, revealing a blind fold.

"Screw you man, no way."

"Come on, it'll possibly be the last time."

"No it won't. You say that every time."

Vic chuckled, "Yeah it won't."

"Come on, come on, everyone outside. Keri shut your eyes, Vic you help guide her."

"That's a bad idea."

"Why?"

"I always get hurt..."

"Fine, Michael."

"Roger."

I closed my eyes as Mike grabbed a hold of my shoulders.

"Please make sure nothing happens to me," I said as we walked out the back door.

"I won't, I'm not my brother. Watch the steps."

"Ready?" Dad asked.

"Yeah, I guess

"One, two, three!"

I opened my eyes.

"Surprise!"

There were two things in my view. A car and a hot tub. I’ve always wanted my parents to get a hot tub, I’m glad they finally got it. And they got it for me? Awesome!

I headed towards the hot tub, "Aw, this is-."

"Not for you." Dad said taking hold of me, "This is yours silly. Your mother and I were going to get this for you for you when you got accepted, but since freshmen aren't allowed to have cars on campus, we waited till now. So happy getting accepted and Merry Christmas."

I really appreciated the car. It was a brand new Hyundai Sonata, but I wanted the hot tub.

"Are you sure that's not what you’re giving me?" I asked pointing to the tub.

"Yes Keri Chrisette."

"Can I trade?"

"Ha ha, no."

I sighed, "Fine."

"Somebody is still greedy after all these years." George said, wrapping an arm around my shoulder.

"She can't help it, so long as Vic and Uncle D are around." Mike said.

"So what?" I asked crossing my arms.

"Okay, before fists start flying. Here are your keys and I have one more surprise."

"Well aren't you the spoiled brat today." Joe commented.

"It's for you boys." Dad told him.

I stuck my tongue out at Joe, and then hugged my dad, "Thank you daddy."

"Welcome princess. Now everyone, back inside."

I took hold on Vic's hand, letting everyone walk ahead of us.

"What's up?"

"You know I love you."

"Yes and I love you too."

"Do you?"

"Yes. Is really a question to ask?"

I smiled, "Just checking... You wouldn't ever hurt me would you?"

Vic shifted a bit, "Never." He proceeded to kiss me. "You're the only person that I want, no other girl can compare to you. Trust me."

"Okay."

I led us back inside.

"You know, we can wait till Christmas." Mitch said as Vic and I took our seats.

"Maybe you can, but I can't." Joe countered.

"Keri go and get the cards from under the tree," Mother told me.

"Okay."

I walked to our very over decorated tree and pulled the cards out with the guy’s names on them.

"Now, I've been thinking this over for a while now and finally decided to go ahead with my plan. Give them their cards Keri."

I handed each their card then taking my seat again, resting my head on Vic's shoulder.

"This is my gift to you."

"A card, really Uncle D?" Mike already began complaining.

"Why don't you open it instead of complaining? Doesn't that make sense?" I said.

"You know, you don't have to be so mean all the time."

I rolled my eyes, "What are you guys waiting for? The envelope isn't going to open itself."

They ripped their envelopes open.

"You've got to be joking. Tickets to fly to New York?!" Mike was the first to open the card.

"Read the letter."

Mike unfolded a note that came along with the card and ticket.

"Dear Early Times- hey that's us.
We invite you to New York to record your next EP. We've listened to your previous work and are very impressed. Wed like to share the experience of helping you record another. We look forward to meet you all very soon.
Sincerely,
Candy Records.
Wow... Just... Wow, thanks Uncle D... Wow."

The guys were all speechless, reading the letter over and over again. I guess they were trying to figure out if they were dreaming or not.

"Don't thank me. Thank this one right here, it was all her idea." Dad said pointing at me.

"Ker Bear, you thought of this?"

"Yeah, I didn't know what to get you boys for Christmas. So I got in touch with some people and asked dad into bringing the band to NY to record your next EP."

Vic, who was already next to me, began attacking me with hugs. Then the others joined.

"Keri, you're the best." Mitch said.

"Agreed," Joe second.

"Guys, I can't breathe."

"We don't care; we're going to hug you to death." Mike told me.

"Guys really, thanks for the hugs, but I really can't breathe. You’re all suffocating me. Daddy help." I began to whimper.

The adults sat back laughing, while I was literally dying.

"We leave early Wednesday morning for LAX. Be here or get left," Dad said instead of helping me.

That caused the guys to crush me even more.

"Why don't you go hug my dad, he's the one that really made this happen."

They looked at my dad. Mike and Joe were the only ones to actually go hug him. Vic and Mitch stayed behind in fear of what my father would do. Dad tried knocking them off with no luck. Just when I thought my night was going to turn out like absolute crap, it turned out pretty good and I'm so happy it did. Now the only thing I had to figure out is what mom meant about Vic.

"I'm thinking it’s just about time for me to head out." Mitch said stiffing a yawn.

"Same," Joe joined Mitch.

"I'll bring you home then. Thanks again Derek."

"No problem."

I gave the guys hugs before they left, "See ya later losers."

"Bye."

"I'm calling it in early too."

I made a sad face as Mike headed for the door.

"What Ker Bear?"

"You're leaving me so early?"

"We can party hard some other day."

"Fine. Night."

"Night."

I sat back next to Vic, "Are you going to leave too?"

"No, do you want me to?"

"No, stay a little longer." I said resting my head in his shoulder.

"I'll stay as long as you want."

"Maybe even forever?"

He chuckled, "However long you want."

Vic interlocked our fingers. I stared at our hands as he messed with my ring.

He wouldn’t do it. He would never…

"See you two later, we're going." Dad announced standing up.

"Where are you old people going?"

"One, we are not old, and two, out to party."

"Party where, I wanna come."

"It's a no kids aloud party. Bye."

Emily gave Vic and I kisses before leaving, "Take care."

"Don't destroy my house while I'm gone." Mom said before stepping out.

"It's only Vic and I, what could we possible do to destroy the place?"

George smirked.

"Oh, Dad, come on. Seriously?"

"Hey, you never know."

"Leave, all of you. Bye."

When our parents safely drove off, Vic began tugging me.

"What?"

"Let's go take a dip in the hot tub."

"You do know that requires me to change."

"No it doesn't." Vic said with a sexy grin.

"You seriously think I'm going in with my underwear?"

"Yup."

I smiled, "Fine."

I jumped on Vic's back, and we walked out silently.

"So how's school and work going for you?"

"Pretty good, nothing to really complain about. I'm starting to give lessons to kids that want to learn how to play."

"Since you learned and play by ear, how are you teaching the kids?"

"Just like that."

"So if you were to teach me, how would you since I'm a visual learner."

"I don't know... You're difficult to deal with as it is."

I splashed him, "No I'm not."

"Yes you are. You just don't believe it."

I rolled my eyes, "Whatever. I'm a princess; I can be difficult if I want to."

"I hate the fact your dad implanted that whole princess thing into your head, I have to spoil you even more with that title."

"Vic, you being with me is spoiling enough. You don't have to go out of your way with the things you do for me."

"Yes I do..."

"Why?"

"It’s... It’s just the way I like expressing my love for you."

"Just promise me one thing."

"Anything."

"Don't become a typical rock star."

"Not if I was paid a billion bucks."

I smiled placing my hand on Vic's cheek, and leaned in. He met me half way, and pushed his lips on mine. I felt his tongue go across my lip, begging for an entrance. I opened, as he slid in. His arms went around my waist, pulling me closer, as mine went around his neck. I smiled pulling back knowing Vic was thinking this was leading us to my bedroom.

"I know you know what I'm thinking, so get back here."

I giggled as Vic pulled me back in. I took charge by running my hands up his chest, to his neck, gripping the back of it, pulling him in harder. He sighed and I smiled against his lips.

Vic ran his hands down my sides and gripped my hips, causing me to let out a small giggle.

Damn me and my ticklish self!

"Alright, you win." I said between kisses.

Vic pulled away, smiling triumphly, "I know."

He hopped out the tub, and then helped me out, then on to his back. While he led us upstairs, I nibbled lightly on his ear and neck. Once in my room, Vic plopped me down on my bed. I pulled him down, on top of me, wanting more. I could tell by his hard on, that he wanted the same.
We just had to be interrupted by a knock on the door making us both jump. Vic got up, opening the door. It was Mike.

"Dude what the fuck." he questioned angrily.

"Just thought, you'd need a few of these since out parents are going to be out all night," Mike answered with a smirk. "Hey Ker Bear."

I couldn't help but to laugh at the scene. It was usually Vic and I giving Mike protection, not the other way around.

Vic snatched the condoms out of Mike's hand, "Get out."

"Just try not to wake the neighbors."

"Idiot." He mumbled while closing the door.

As Vic made his way back to me, I stood on my knees, pulling him back to my lips. He unclasped my bra and pulling off my panties, then slowly laid me back down. His lips wondered down my neck, to my collar bone, to my nipples. His tongue played with them, to what seemed like forever, and also I felt as it I were in heaven. His tongue trailed down my stomach, to my clit. I let out a soft moaned, as I felt his tongue tease me; his hot breath adding to the affects. I locked my fingers in his hair, pulling. He let up, pulling off his boxers and putting on the condom. I climbed on top of him, and slipped myself onto his hard cock. I started riding him. He moaned loudly, as his hands were gripped on my hips. I moaned as I took in his whole length. Vic wasn't huge, but he wasn't small. He was the right fit. He flipped me back over on my back, slamming back into me. I moaned, as he gripped on my thighs. He moaned, slowing down his pace. He leaned down, taking my lips with his own. His thrust became more ridged as he neared.

"Keri...." He moaned.

I bit my lip moaning as I felt myself coming too.

After a few more thrust, we came in unison. He fell to the bed, taking me in his arms, breathless. He kissed my forehead, as I his chest. I was trying to catch my breath, as was he. I placed a kiss on his chest, wrapping my arms around him. Even through all of this, my mind went back to Vic's new friend.
I knew he'd never hurt me, but it still scared me.

"Promise to never let go." I whispered holding him tighter.

"Never."
