Ally started moving around on the bed and that honestly scared me.
It's eight a.m in the morning and here I was freaking out because the girl I loved was waking up for the first time in months.
Four months to be exact.
Honestly it's been the most miserable months of my life, without her my world is miserable.
I beeped the button to call her nurse and stood over Ally as she groaned slightly.
"Where...where am I?" She asked slowly opening her eyes. I took a short intake of breath and smiled at Ally below me.
Her big brown eyes were piercing into my soul but something was different.
Something was gone.
The little sparkle that contain her eyes were gone, they were dull.
"Yes Vic what is it this t- Oh my well little Ally it seems you have woken up. Finally." The blonde nurse smiled easily.
I sat back on the chair I placed by her bed a couple of months before.
"I'll go get a doctor." She told me and left.
"Um. Hello stranger." Ally said nervously and waved to my slightly with her right hand.
"You don't remember me?" I asked feeling myself break in two.
Ally scratched the back of her head.
"Should I?" She asked, Ally furrowed her eyebrows together in deep concentration but when her face relaxed she looked at me.
"I'm sorry but I don't know who you are." She said apologetically.
I felt as if someone just grabbed my heart and squeezed it. I began rubbing my hands over my thighs and rocked back and forth muttering.
"This can't be happening."
I had my eyes close knowing this is just a dream or she's just playing a joke on me.
I stopped when the doctor came in.
"Hello young Ally. My name is Dr.Duran." He held out his hand and Ally shook it.
"What do you all remember?" He asked her.
"Uh well I remember my name, my birthdate, my parents, my family. But the last thing I remember was moving to San Diego with my family and I'm not sure if it happened years ago or days ago." She sighed.
The doctor nodded and wrote in his notepad.
"Birthdate?" He asked. "July 19th 1982." She told him. "Correct. It's 2009 now dear. You're 26 years old. The date is March 4th on a Wednesday." He smiled.
Ally nodded then pointed at me.
"Who is that?" She asked making my heart break once again. "That's Vic Fuentes, your fiancé." He told her.
Immediately Ally's eyes landed on the engagement ring on her finger, her mouth fell open into an 'o' shape.
The doctor turned to me.
"Can I talk to you in private son?" He asked.
"Of course." I cleared my throat and stood up, following him out of the room.
"What now?" I asked starting to pace. "She doesn't remember me at all! No memory of us together. She doesn't love me!" I exclaimed.
"Calm down Vic. Look there's not much I can do considering she's very confused. Maybe she'll get her memory, maybe not. Something could trigger it. This is my advice son." He put his hand on my shoulder. "Ally is like a newborn baby to the world. She doesn't know who she is, how different her life is. You will be there for her okay? Maybe not as a companion but as a friend. A guide. Refresh her memory of every day life. This isn't 1998 anymore Vic. Her mind is missing a big chunk and she'll need you to be there for her. If she never regains her memories than somewhere along the way she'll fall in love with you again. Love will remember." He patted my shoulder and left me standing there.
Be her friend? I felt my eyes get hot and my vision blurry. I silently cried to myself my shoulders shaking.
The only words that stuck to me was what the doctor said. 'Somewhere along the way she'll fall in love with you again. Love will remember.'
After I calmed down I went back in the room with Ally playing with the ring.
That ring was my mama's engagement ring and so on.
"This is a beautiful ring." She said looking up at me and smiling.
"It is, it fits in with your beauty." I told her, Ally blushed and shifted in the bed.
"Too soon?" I asked sensing she was uncomfortable.
"I don't know why I'm nervous, I shouldn't be. I mean I had to love you right? To say yes." She asked, I looked down.
Be her friend.
"It's fine." I waved her off.
Ally frowned slightly but she didn't push the subject.
When I looked back at Ally she was studying me.
"So Vic. When can I leave?" She asked letting her eyes wander towards the ground.
At that moment a nurse came in the room with papers, handing them to me.
"Just fill these out and we can let you leave." She told me smiling.
"Thanks." I said and ran my hand over the paper work. I began writing in Ally's information.
"How do you know my information?" Ally asked quietly.
"I've known you for nine years and your asking me that?" I chuckled.
Ally shrugged and got out of bed in her grown.
"I don't have anything to wear." She told me.
"Oh right." I got up and went towards the closet thingy an pulled out a bag.
"Okay I know how much you love your leggings but I wasn't sure which one to bring so I brought like five pairs plus your favourite shirt." I rambled on putting each pair of leggings in front of her and pulling out her Kiss baseball tee.
Ally started laughing a little.
"They're all the same leggings Vic." She said picking up the middle one.
"If you had any memory of our last conversation you'd pick the furthest from the left." I said picking them up.
"These are most comfortable and the middle ones you wear when you go to give piano and guitar lessons to people." I told her, wow I sounded like such a girl.
Ally raised her eyebrow.
"Did I really say all that?" She asked picking up the pair of leggings and taking her shirt from me.
"Mhmm." I said sitting back finishing with the forms.
When she was done the nurse came back, took the forms and bid farewell to us as we headed out of the hospital.
"Wow." Ally sighed as she stopped and looked over the view from one of the windows.
The world below alive and bustling on.
"So Vic." Ally started catching my attention. "Fill me in." She smiled. I pursed my lips.
"Where do I start?" I asked. Ally shrugged.
"How did we first meet?" She asked me.
I looked down smiling at the memory.
"Well it started when you were behind the bleachers reading a book, A love betrayed to be exact." I started.
