Raising Chandler

Moral Support

*a week later*

I haven't talked to Ella since I was arrested. God, that sounds bad...I was arrested. She's still with Jaime as far as I know, but I've been grounded since the incident. Today was the day I was supposed to be officially un-grounded, actually.

I rolled out of my bed and stared at the clock. Six in the morning. Why's it always six?

I meandered slowly to my bedroom window, looking out and cursing the trees for obstructing my view of the sunrise. I rubbed my tired eyes, then crawled back up under my comforter. I knew I wouldn't get any more sleep, but at least I was warm while I was busy being miserable. Closing my eyes, I pulled the comforter up over my face, then turned over on my stomach.

I laid there quietly for a few minutes, then I felt the comforter move and heard a quiet chuckle. I sighed and rolled over, half-expecting to see Jack. In his place, however, was my father, and behind him, my mother. They smiled down at me, and my mother stepped around and sat on the edge of the bed.

"My sweet boy," she whispered, then smiled a gentle smile. My mother looked fragile, made of glass...as if she'd shatter if you were to push her off the bed. This was unusual, and even though she was a 'ghost', it seemed like something was wrong, like she was sick.

"Are you okay?" I asked her, and she just turned and looked up at my father. He, too, looked fragile. "We know you've been hurting, we know you've been hurting because you protected us. When you hurt, we- all of us- hurt, too," she said. I nodded.

"Why are you here now?" I asked, coming off a little more harsh than I intended. My mom winced at my tone, and my father answered.

"We're here because you are hurting, son. We're here to help you find Ella again."

"How do you intend to do that?" I asked, doubtful that two ghosts-versions of my birth parents could really help much with my love life.

"Moral support, I guess?" he answered.

I chuckled a bit to myself. "Well, I'll take what I can get," I said. My mother attempted to pat my back, but her hand passed through me and I could feel the pain that caused her. Why can't my parents touch me, but Tony and Mike can? That's so weird...

"It's because she and I aren't supposed to be able to contact you. This encounter isn't supposed to happen, but we had to make sure you'd be alright for...today," my dad said in a low, saddened voice. He put a strange emphasis on the word 'today', and that somewhat terrified me.

My parents smiled at me and I smiled back quietly, then there was a subtle flash of light and they faded away. It broke my heart to see them fade, it was as if they were being taken from me all over again.

"I love you," I whispered into the darkness. My eyes fluttered shut and I succumbed to the quiet and dark, falling into another restless sleep. When I opened them again, I wished I hadn't.

Notes

Yowza, it's been a while. Sorry guys...
I'm not gonna give you a load of excuses, but I'm doing my best. Thanks for holding on this long (and putting up with my shitty fillers like this one). It means a lot :)
Until next time (God only knows when that'll be)
