King For A Day

Mike’s POV
After all the guys left it was just me and alex sitting at a table nursing our drinks. I checked the time and I figured my dad should be comatose right about now. We grabbed our skateboards and headed to my house. I put my key in the lock and opened the door slowly. It was quiet. I opened the door and walked in. my dad was asleep on the couch with a beer firmly gripped in his hand. I put a cover on him and motioned for alex to come in. he slipped in noiselessly.

We both shot up the stairs and into my bedroom. We both flopped on the bed, looked at each other, and started laughing. Alex laid his head on my shoulder and sighed.

“what’s the matter alex?” I asked. I started running my fingers through his soft brown hair. He looked up at me with sad eyes.

“mike all I want is for them to say they love me. Just once could they say it to me? They have never said it to me. They hate me. How can you bring a child into this world and hate them? I don’t understand. All I have ever wanted was for them to love me. And I know I sound like a whiny little baby but it’s how I feel. “ he started sobbing.

“awe lex don’t cry baby. It’s ok sweetheart. Some people just don’t know how to love but if you keep hoping for something that will never happen your heart is going to break. Listen I love you alex. I love you more than you will ever know. You’re more than just my best friend you’re my brother. I am always going to be here for you ok? I will never abandon you and I swear on my life I mean that.” I wrapped my arms around him and kissed the top of his head.

“thanks Mikey. Can I have some covers to sleep on the floor?”

“nah just sleep in the bed with me.” His eyes widened and he blushed. I don’t know what his problem was we always slept together. I mean not sexually or anything but he was my bro.I loved alex.

“uh mikey can I tell you something? Something you will probably kick me out of your house for?” he asked nervously. I nodded.

“mike I’m uh……I’m…….i’m…..please don’t hate me mikey but I’m…..i’m gay.” He looked down at the ground. I got up and he jumped.

“so what? So am I. I’ve just never told anyone. I didn’t know how people would take it so I kept it to myself.But you don’t have to worry about judgment from me. Now turn off the light and get in the bed. He nodded and got in the bed snuggling up to me. I wrapped my arms around him and we fell asleep.

I awoke the next morning feeling like there was someone watching me. My eyes flew open and I saw my father standing there with an evil look on his face.

“so you’re a faggot huh Michael?” he said laughing.

“fuck you get out of my room.” He shot across the room and punched me. Alex woke up and immediately went into panic mode. I jumped up and attacked my dad. He slammed me on the ground and started kicking and punching me. I screamed at alex to run. He was frozen in place and wouldn’t move. Then all at once alex jumped into action. He grabbed my skateboard and whacked my dad upside the head. We both slipped our shoes on and grabbed our skateboards and ran out of the house.
We ran all the way to tony’s house.We started pounding on the door. Mrs. Perry opened the door with a worried expression on her face.She stepped aside and let us in.

“what’s going on Michael? Alexander?” she asked looking back and forth at us taking in our disheveled appearances. When we finally calmed down I started to speak because I knew alex wasn’t going to.

“ alex’s parents kicked him out and he needed a place to stay so I told him he could come and stay with me. Then when we woke up this morning my dad attacked me and alex hit him upside the head with a skateboard and we came here. I’m so sorry we had nowhere else to go.” She looked at alex who was now on the floor sobbing uncontrollably.

“well you know you guys can always stay here. It’s no problem. Tony come down here please.” We heard tony’s bedroom door opening and then the soft thuds on the carpeted stairs.

“hi mike, hi alex, what are you guys doing here?” he asked smiling.

“we need somewhere to stay for a while.”

“mama can they stay here?”

“yes of course. You guys stay here as long as you need ok.” I nodded and scooped alex up off the floor and into my arms. He was still crying and had my shirt clenched tightly in his hands. I carried him upstairs to tony’s bedroom and set him on the bed.

“go to sleep alex. Just get some sleep baby. Everything is going to be ok.” I kissed his head and started rubbing his back until he fell asleep. I just wanted to protect him from everything.
