King For A Day

Alex POV
I was sitting at a table at Red’s with Mike, Jaime, Tony, and Jack. They were all talking about the party that jack was throwing tomorrow and how many hot girls would be there. I was only half listening because I was so tired. I didn’t get any sleep because of my parents arguing all night. I knew that if I would’ve said anything they would have beat me senseless. My parents were not the loving type. No they would much rather make me their own personal punching bag. I started to think about the last time they had beat me nearly to death.

“Alexander William Gaskarth get your ass down here now!!!!! ‘’ my stomach started rolling and I started to get shaky. I didn’t know what I did but I knew it didn’t take much to set my parents off.. I slowly made my way downstairs and then to the living room. My father was standing there with a look of pure hatred on his face. I was terrified because I knew this wasn’t going to end well.

“do you know who just called me alexander?” he asked through clenched teeth. I shook my head no. “get over here. Right here.” He hissed. I walked slowly over to him. When I was close enough he backhanded me so hard that my lip split.
“I just got a call from your school asking me if I’m feeding and taking care of you. You want to tell me why that is?”

“ father please I’m sorry I didn’t mean to tell. They tricked me I’m sorry. They called me in to the principal’s office and my principal and some lady asked me if I wanted some pizza. I couldn’t help it. I was so hungry father I had to eat. They asked me a bunch of questions and I answered them honestly. I’m so…’’ he backhanded me again. This time I fell to the floor. I started to sob.

“you are such a fucking retard! Now these fuckers are going to come and investigate us! I’m not going to jail because of you. You are the dumbest kid on earth!”

“maybe they should take me away!” I screamed and then my eyes widened in shock at what had just escaped my mouth. I never talked back. Ever and there was a reason for that. My dad lost it and started kicking and punching me. When that didn’t satisfy him he picked up a baseball bat and started hitting me with it. I screamed begging and pleading for him to stop but he wouldn’t let up. After a while I just let the pain take over and before I knew it I was out cold.

“alex? Yoooo lex!” I snapped out of my flashback and smiled at jack reassuring him that I was ok. He nodded and went back to talking about the party. Mike however was still staring at me. He knew me better than anyone else and he knew that I wasn’t fine. Mike nodded his head in the direction of the door. I got up and followed him outside. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and grabbed two out of the pack. I took one and we both lit them and started smoking.

“so what’s going on alex? I saw you in there and you looked as if you were lost in space. What were you thinking about?” he asked softly. The whole gang always treated me like I would shatter at any given moment. They were kind of rough with each other but when it came to me they were gentle.

“I was thinking about that time when I was twelve years old and my dad nearly beat me to death. It still gives me nightmares and it was the first time I thought I might die at the hands of someone who was supposed to protect me.” I felt the tears slipping out of my eyes and hurriedly wiped them away.

“shh lex you’re ok. One day I promise we will run away. We will go to a place where we are free to just enjoy life. But for now we will have to brave this hell together. Did you do the homework from Mr. Delgado’s class?”

“Uh yeah. It was pretty easy. I actually got done in class. How about you did you finish?” I asked grateful to mike for changing the subject. He knew I didn’t like talking about home.

“yeah I did it in class too. It was pretty easy.” Mike said taking a long drag of his cigarette and then tossing it into the smoker stick. I finished off mine and did the same. We headed back into the bar and saw jack flirting with some girl with long black hair, pretty blue eyes, and huge tits. Just his type. I was pretty sure that he’d have no problem convincing her to leave with him. Jack was really sexy. Not that I’d ever tell him, or anyone else that.

“hey guys I’m going to head to tone’s house. His mom is making him babysit his little sister and I’m going to keep him company.” Jaime said to me and mike. We both just nodded. Jaime and tony were attached at the hip. They used to have a thing but now Jaime is dating a beautiful girl named marie and tony is dating a girl named eva. They both headed out the door which only left me, jack, and mike. And from the way that girl was giggling it would be just me and mike soon which is fine because what I really wanted to do that I couldn’t in front of the others, was cry.

Notes

in the last two chapters I put down jack as being a part of both vic and mike's group but he is only a part of mike's sorry for the confusion. I tried to change it but it freezes everytime I try so I just wanted to clear that up
