Red.

"Em come on it's been a day you have to get out of bed eventually besides todays the cookout and you can't miss it." Vic said rubbing my shoulder. I turned to face him momentarily before ducking my head back into the pillow.
"So what if it's been a day I can lie here as long as I want." I said my words muffled by the pillow.
" So then what will I do with your daughter."
I peeked my head up at the mention of my daughter and saw that dawn sat there hand in her lap and the sweetest smile on her face. So much of her reminded me of Mike it was unbelievable, I scrunched my face throwing my head back onto the pillow. I felt a body crawl over to mine chubby little legs straddling my abdomen, I turnedd to face my daughter. Dawn leaned forward her tiny hands squeezing my cheeks making me resemble a fish, " momma get up, we has to go to party for my daddy and tios!" She said scolding me. I tried smiling which resulted in laughter from both vic and Dawn. I grabbed her hands prying them from my face.
"oh fine you two win but you must let tio get you pretty and let mommy get pretty too, promise?" I asked sticking out my pinky to my daughter. Dawn took it eagerly in her tiny one nodding before leaping into Vic's arms.
"let's go tio lets go get ready."

I took my time getting ready, deciding on a bubble bath to relieve some of the stress and anxiety I had been feeling. I reached for a towel wrapping it around my body the proceeding to wrap one around my hair. I pulled on my undergarments before reaching for my black maxi dress and slipping on my beige pumps. I dried my hair leaving it in somewhat a natural wavy state, applying my cat-eye makeup along with my red lips. I walked out of my bathroom dumping my laundry in the basket before making my way to dawns room. I stood by the door watching the scene infront of me. Dawn was seated neatly in between Vic's lap, him braiding back her hair. Vic's phone was being held carefully by Dawn as a form of distraction for the toddler. Vic looked up his eyes meeting mine he smiled, " wow Em."
"momma you like bootyful."
I smiled winking at the two, " we should get going before it gets to late." I announced making my way to the kitchen.
Dawn followed tow pulling her uncle along with her. Vic grabbed his keys as we exited the house making our way to his car I buckled Dawn in before sliding in and doing the same.

The car ride was exceptionally quiet although Vic would occasionally stare my way.
"Take a picture it'll last longer fuentes." I said amirking as we pulled up to a stoplight.
"I just might." He said, a flash appeared and when I turned my head to stare at him he indeed had taken a photo. I smacked his arm telling him to keep driving as the light turned green. Truth be told I was greatful for Vic after the whole engagement thing Vic had stayed with me and Dawn not believing that I would be okay to be alone. Although I had insisted I would he somehow knew me better, that night he slept on the couch Dawn cuddled up closely to him. Vic had been right I sulked for a day, crying occasionally and truly feeling sorry for myself, if it wasn't for his constant bugging I probably wouldn't have come out. I turned to my head smiling at the boy driving, he turned to me sending me a smile as well. His hand found its way on to my thigh squeezing it momentarily, he let it rest there as he continued to drive. As we made the turn onto the fuentes residence I could see tonight would be a busy night. Vic parked in the garage before shutting off the car, he gave my thigh one last squeeze before stepping out. I slid out opening dawns door and unbuckling her. Dawn grabbed Vic's hand as I closed both doors. We walked up the pathway standing at the door, before we went in Vic turned to me, "you look beautiful tonight Em if anything happens I'll be right here the whole way okay?" He questioned grabbing my hand I nodded giving his hand a squeeze. Vic leaned in placing a kiss on my head, " alright let's go."
As we made our way into the loud house not once did I let go of Vic's hand not even as I passed the one man who I knew I had to forget.
