High School Never Ends

First Night On The Job

“Michael Fuentes get your lazy arse off of the sofa, we’ve got work to do!” I shouted
“It’s a couch.” He pointed out
“Shut up! Just get up before I make you!” I threatened
“I’d rather you make me.” Mike smirked at me
“Fine.” I sighed as I kicked him in the shin
“OUCH!” He exclaimed in pain
“Now get your arse the hell up, now!”
“Okay, okay.” Mike put his hands up in surrender
He seemed to have gone back to his old self ever since the meeting with the dealer. Tonight’s our first night on the job. We’ve decided to split off into two’s: me and Mike, Vic and Tony, Amelia and Jaime.
“Vic, we’re going.” Mike called out
“Alright, be careful. Aria, just don’t let him out of your sight.” Vic called back
“I won’t.” I reassured him
We walked outside and Mike headed for the car.
“What are you doing?” I asked Mike
“Getting in the car.” He stated gesturing towards the car
“Nope. I don’t plan for us to drive down the alleyways, handing out drugs.”
“We’ve got to walk.” Mike stated plainly
“It’s only like 10 minutes, you’ll live. Plus, you’ve got me for company!” I winked
“Oh god.” He laughed
“What?” I pouted
“No, it’s just you’re beginning to sound more and more like me, each day.” Mike chuckled
“No!” I gasped. “This is serious! We’ve got to stop spending time together.”
“Hmm, I don’t think that’s necessary. I kind of like it.” Mike winked before walking off
“No, stop it. This is the reason I’m becoming more like you. Those remarks are what’s created this.” I exclaimed, pointing at myself
“Get a grip.” He laughed. “You’re fine. Now let’s go and deal some drugs.”
I shook my head whilst laughing. “What have we got ourselves into?”
Once, we reached the first alleyway on 4th it was nearing 10:30. Mike’s parents were out late, having dinner with some friends. So, for tonight, Mike and Vic were both free to get the job done.
Mike strolled ahead, acting as if the alleyway was a casual neighbourhood.
“Mike.” I hissed, jogging after him
“What?”
“You can’t just… Stroll in. People might be pissed about us being on their territory or something.”
“You think way too much, Ari.”
We continued to walk, only slower and much more cautiously. People were staring at us as we passed along. The further we got into the alley, the closer I got to Mike. Soon, I was gripping his hand, almost clinging to his side.
“Aria.” Mike whispered
“Yup.”
“My hand. I’ve lost all feeling in it.”
“Oh, sorry.” I gasped, relieving my hold slightly
Mike gave my hand a reassuring squeeze.
Suddenly, a tall buff looking man approached.
“Y’know, this isn’t the safest place for two little kiddies.” He laughed
“Actually, we’re here looking for a little business.” Mike informed him
“Business?” He spat. “What are you selling, candy bars?” He laughed
“If that’s code word for this, then yes. Candy bars.” Mike huffed as he held a bag filled with a substance in front of the guys face.
“How much?” He asked, his tone suddenly changing
Mike looked to me for help, obviously forgetting the price.
“$50.” I squeaked
“Rip off!” He spat
“If you don’t pay, you don’t get the gooda: simple.” I explained, gaining a scary amount of confidence
The man looked me up and down whilst scowling, while Mike stepped in front of me slightly in an attempt to protect me from his looks.
“Fine.” He muttered, shoving $50 into Mike’s hand before snatching the bag from Mike.
“Nice doing business with you.” Mike called, as he hurriedly pulled me away
We carried on until we reached the end of the alley and were back out onto the usual streets of San Diego
“That was… Uh, an experience.”
“Let’s just hope the others sold more than we did.” I sighed
I began to walk away but Mike pulled me back to him.
“Hey, we sold one bag. That’s an achievement.” He grinned down at me
I smiled back, but with a hint of uncertainty.
“We need to talk about before, Mike.”
“What happened before?” Mike innocently questioned
I raised my eyebrow. “About the other day.”
“The other day?”
“You know when we just casually confessed our love for each other.” I huffed
Mike’s eyes widened. “Shit, I’m really stupid aren’t I?” He chuckled. “What’s there to talk about, I love you, you love me.” He smiled goofily
“Yeh, but where does that leave us? Is there an us?”
“That’s confidential information, Ari.” He smirked and turned to walk away
I jogged after him. “No way Fuentes. Tell me.”
“You tell me.” He laughed
I grabbed his arm, pulling him to a stop. “Mike.” I said sternly
He sighed. “I guess you need a clue?”
“A clue? What? No I need an answer!” I demanded
He turned his head away, but before I could shout at him anymore he crashed his lips into mine and held me tightly. When he pulled away he was grinning goofily, and I’m pretty sure I was as well. He held out his hand and I took it. We walked back towards his house, hand in hand.
“Did that answer your question?” He asked, when we reached the front door
I nodded.
Before he opened the door, he quickly leaned down and softly pecked my lips. I savoured the moment, best I could. Mike swung the door open and we were met by everybody. Quickly, we snatched our hands away from each other as I tried to fight back a blush. This was going to be an interesting night.
