High School Never Ends

Chemistry

“Guys, we need to talk.” I stated, as me, Vic and Amelia sat with them
Confused, all three of them looked between me and Amelia.
“What’s going on?” Jaime questioned, pointing to Amelia and then to me
“Well… Uh, Amelia is. How do I put this?” I hesitated
“We’ve been forced to work together on a science project!” Amelia blurted out
I frowned at Amelia.
“So, you’re here because?” Mike asked with an annoyed tone
“To improve our chemistry.” Amelia winked at Mike
“That was just honestly terrible.” Vic laughed
Amelia shot him a vicious look quickly shutting him up.
“So, that’s all you wanted to tell us?” Tony asked
I sighed and nodded.
Maybe now wasn’t the right time. I was too scared that they would react badly: scared they would abandon me.
The final bell rang and I quickly rushed to my locker, desperate to get out of the school. However, when I reached my locker, Mike was leaning against it.
“Hey.” I greeted him
“Oh, hi.” He replied, startled
“Didn’t mean to make you jump.” I giggled
“Haha. Can I walk with you?” He asked
“Sure, why?”
“I just… I just want to talk, y’know? Things between us have been off for a couple of days.”
“Oh, okay.” I smiled at him
We began walking out of the school towards my house. For the first five minutes, we walked in an awkward silence until Mike spoke up.
“So what’s really the deal with Amelia?” He asked
“It’s… Science project! We were made partners in science.” He raised his eyebrow at me
“And that was so important that you got us all together just to tell us?”
“Oh c’mon. I just… I thought you guys should know.”
“I don’t like her.”
“Mike, she isn’t as bad as…”
“Are you kidding? I’ve seen what she does on a daily basis.”
“But those people mess with her. In a weird sense they ask for it.”
“You’re saying that her victims deserve to be beaten up?”
“Stop twisting what I’m saying!”
“I’m not, I’m rephrasing what you said.”
“Mike, look. Just give her a chance, yeh?”
“No.”
“Mike…”
“NO. Take this as a lesson on how to say no.”
“Hey, take that back! That’s not even funny.”
“It wasn’t supposed to be.” He mumbled
“Why can’t you just let me be who I am. You can call me a pushover all you want but it’s a personality trait, deal with it!” I exclaimed before storming off
I could hear Mike calling after me, but now just really wasn’t a good time. I may be a pushover however when I get mad, I get mad.
When I arrive home I slam the door shut and throw my bag on the ground. I hear shuffling from the kitchen, and cautiously peer round the corner only to see a face I didn’t ever want to see again.
