Rage, Rage Against the Dying of the Light

I Told it Not, My Wrath Did Grow

Friday, 9:44 P.M….

Three whole days had passed. Three entire days.

After the destruction incident, my first step of three, I was a good girl. I had been pleasant and interactive with the boys. I did (almost) everything that they said. Gabe had constantly kept an eye on me, and I, him. We watched each other like we were two hawks circling.

I think he had an idea of what I was going to do.

Yet, I continued to be a good little girl. They were all on edge, but by this afternoon, they were all fine.

“Go get me a water.” Jesse had asked. And I did.

“Go get the laundry.” Jack had commanded. And I did.

“Sit there.”

“Do this.”

“Be here.”

They all told me these orders, as if I was still a dog. Although my rage grew, and grew, and grew, I did not move against them. I held my tongue, keeping a distance, but not being solitary.

I had all but forgotten about the ipod that hung heavy in my pocket. They had not figured out my secret, nor did I care about it anymore. If I could get to step three, I wouldn’t need this anymore.

My freedom all relied on step three, not the ipod.

“We’re going for sound check.” Gabe had told me earlier this afternoon. I nodded, smiling up to him before going with the rest of the boys. I was stuck in my bunk, just listening to their words from my little hiding spot.

“What are we going to do with her!?” Justin asked warily. I crossed my fingers, hoping that they would let me stay on the bus. Please be stupid, just one more time! I mouthed over and over, but never letting a breath escape my lips.

“We all have to go for sound check, so none of us can stay here.” Kellin sighed. I felt that my opinion would matter or be accounted for, so I didn’t say anything. There was more muttering and grumbles.

“Keep her with one of our drum techs. We only need Casper tonight. Jason can take care of her.” Jack suggested.

Woah, woah, woah…Jason. That name. Where had I heard it? It was so familiar, just on the tip of my tongue. I knew him from a few months ago, when I boarded with the BMTH boys. But who was he? Would this be the same Jason? I remembered a blonde haired boy, his straying bangs sweeping over his eyes. But where had I seen him?

Looks like I’ll find out soon enough.

“You’re right, you’re right. Let’s keep her with Jason. Call him up. We have to leave soon.” Kellin ordered. Everyone scrambled around the bunks, grabbing their last minute bags. Gabe called on his phone, quickly speaking and telling the mysterious Jason what he needed to do. The door opened and I poked my head out. Gabe came to me. I looked up at him.

“Jason’s going to be in here. We’ll be back in a little while. I wouldn’t recommend doing anything drastic around here.” Gabe warned. I nodded and smiled up at him.

“Good luck at your show, sir.” I whispered to him. I hopped out of the bunk, following them to the door. Gabe winked to me as he walked out. I stood there, curiously looking at the others as they ran from the bus into the building. A security guard let them in.

Before I knew it, a man was jiggling the keys into the outside’s door lock. The door popped open and a man stepped in. I gasped at the recognition.

He was the bartender at The Restless Wanderer, the bar I ran into when I had escaped Oli and the band! He was the blonde man who looked about twenty and gave me my meal for free and had talked to me like I was a normal person.

The man, whose nametag read Jason Kisner, sat down across from me at the booth.

“What’s your name?” He asked.

“Just call me Rory.” I chuckled, taking a sip of water.

“So why were you wandering out there?” He asked. I took note of the blonde hair that swept over his face. Maybe he could help me out, call the police later. The boys would never know him.

“So we meet again, Rory.” He smiled. I stood up, not believing I would ever meet a friendly face again. He put his hands on his hips, just staring at me with a crooked grin.

“Y-you’re Jason, the b-boy from the b-bar in Arizona!” I gasped. He nodded.

“And you were the lost girl who wandered in looking like the coyotes had mauled your skin.” He whispered. I took a step back, shaking my head. His eyes crinkled up in sadness.

“Why are you working with them? Why are you here?” I asked worriedly. He held up his hands, as if in surrender. The heavy silence fell between us.

“I’m not, I promise. Actually, I’m here for the opposite. I’m here to keep an eye on you.” He smiled. I collapsed onto the couch, relieved for a moment, but then confused.

“What?”

“A group of people are asking me to keep an eye on you, to make sure you’re safe. I’m not here to give you up to another group of traders.” He explained, sitting down next to me. My head was swimming with all these new facts that have suddenly appear.

“Wait, you’re calling the police? You’re getting me home!?” I cried out in joy. Jason’s face fell.

“Well, not immediately.” My face dropped as well, my heart sinking like a two ton boulder.

“What do you mean?” I questioned eventually.

“It’s dangerous to call the police. If we called them, they’ll come out here, arrest the bands, and take you into questioning. That all seems easy, right?” He asked. I nodded. “But that’s the thing. The bands have a record label, and the record labels have power, lawyers, and money. They’ll just push off the hearings and get minimal to no jail time for their precious musicians. Although that’s not bad, it gets worse.” He explained.

“But they’re already in jail!” I cried out. He shook his head. My mind was racing. I thought about it more and more. Did they want money? Did they want my house?

My family.

And then it dawned on me. The one person I was trying to protect most by not talking about my family would be the target. I had kept my mouth shut. They didn’t know about her. They didn’t know about my sweet, innocent little sister.

“They can get out of that easily. They’ve found out, Rory. They found out.” He grabbed my hand, squeezing it lightly. Tears ran out of the corners of my eyes. I bowed my head, taken over by sadness.

The one secret I had kept to myself, they had now found out.

“They know you have a sister.”

Aw, I know dear! It was so much fun to write this story, but eventually, it had to end! Feel free to reread it if you wish...I know I will be rereading it! I'll have a new story up soon, but I'm going to focus on finishing up some of my other works in progress as well.
(Hint hint: Look for a story called The Miraculous Second Life of Blue Eyes...I think you'll enjoy it and I'll get the first chapter posted soon enough! :))
