Eternal

No More Pain, It Will All Just End

The entire room fell quiet. Those who hadn’t been awake were now. Everyone held their breath, everyone stood still, everyone feared for their lives.

Of course, I was the one with the blood on her hands, literally.

Alex whipped around, almost animal like, to face me. His face was aglow and twisted into a wolf-like snarl. Annabelle stared at me from her cell. I saw it in her eyes-she wanted to speak, yet she feared to make matters worse.

Lynn may have been blind, but she knew that there was something wrong going on.

Alex approached the cell door. I stood up slowly against the back wall, pressing myself against it and fearing for the worst. His features were made even more eerie in the dim light that was cast. It was like the room dropped twenty degrees.

Through the slits in the cement wall bars, I saw Misty’s eyes grow wide in fear.

“Alex, it’s me, Jynx.” I whispered to him. Without warning, he shook the door free of the hinges, causing the lock to break and the iron gateway to swing free. Alex stepped into the dark cell. I felt tears of fear prick at my eyes.

This was the end of me, I just knew it.

He approached, not saying anything. His lips twisted up in a sinister smile as he neared.

“Lynn, stay back.” I warned her. The elderly woman paid attention and curled further into her corner. I couldn’t let her get hurt.

The hunger was apparent in the vampire’s eyes. It showed clear traces he had been starved for nine days. The light brown hair was dull glow, unlike its usual radiance.

At least he wasn’t going for Annabelle.

It would’ve killed him if he woke up from this trance and found her dead.

“Master, stop, control yourself.” I begged him, pressing up further against the wall. Alex loomed over me now. I wasn’t chained anymore, but I couldn’t run. He was too quick for me to escape anywhere.

“Shut up.” He simply growled, low in his throat. His hands, so quick I didn’t see them, threw me to the ground. I hit my back hard, just barely avoiding damage to my head. He crouched over me.

What was that safe word again?

“Alex, stop!” I yelled as he put both knees on my legs. His eyes, so dark and menacing, glowered deeper.

“SHUT UP, SLAVE!” He roared. I struggled, trying to shove my legs and kick him in the chest, but the vampire was much too agile. He caught my legs.

And they snapped.

This is where I screamed in pain.

Dear agony, oh the hellfire that burned in my snapped bones. Alex was crouched, still hovering over me as I shed tears of pain. This was the point that everyone was rattling the bars, loudly wondering what was happening, but fearing for the bloodlust to turn to them.

My legs were snapped and I couldn’t run away. That tactic would be my downfall!

Just as I was about to let out another wail of pain, Alex pinned both my arms over my head on the floor and bit down on my neck. It wasn’t gentle or loving, like Austin, but rough and tearing at my neck. It ripped the skin and blood flowed past the man’s lips to hit the floor and stain my hair.

What was that damn safety word!? I screamed to myself, both in agony and fear.

“JYNX!” Lynn yelled. I waved her approach with my hand. She stood against the wall fearfully. Blue yelped and shook the bars.

“RED! DAMMIT, RED!” I screamed two, three times. But my voice wasn’t loud enough to be heard of Alex’s growls and my own hoarse coughs. I was in pain from the pressure Alex was putting on my broken legs and the rapidly decreasing amount of blood I had in my system.

“RED! HELP, RED!” Lynn joined in. Everyone was screamed and howling nonsense and Red. It was a mixture of the color and garbled nonsense just to get the other vampire’s attention.

“Help!” I cried in a faint whisper, the tears still running out. Alex bit down harshly against on my neck, opening up another set of wounds. I felt his tongue run over the already stream river of scarlet.

RED FOR THE CANCER, RED FOR THE WEALTHY, RED FOR THE DRINKS THAT ARE MIXED WITH SUICIDE!” Blue roared over and over. I had heard this before when she was describing the chess board, but I paid more attention to this plea now.

And suddenly, I felt paralyzed.

It was like after that first time Austin had bit me. I felt that numb paralysis where it was like I was having an out of body experience. I couldn’t move, couldn’t speak, but I could breath and flutter my eyelids.

But then, everything change.

Figures, about six of them, all burst through the door. I recognized Austin, the ginger at his side was probably Alan, and then there was Ghost with Balz and Chris, or what I assumed to be them. Jack ran with Austin and Alan.

“GET OFF OF HER!” Austin roared and picked Alex up by the back of his shirt, throwing him against the wall. Alex, now yanked away from his source of food, was starting to get tipsy. It was like a man just hitting his drunken stages at The Three Shots.

Jack came to his side, yelling at Alex words that I could make out. The tall man with stringy black hair, the man I assumed was Chris, knelt by Lynn, whispering in her ear. She nodded eagerly and followed him out the door. Jack was still yelling at Alex, who’s eyes looked fuzzed and out of it. The short haired man with holes in his ears, went to Misty and spoke something to the girls. They nodded and went back to their corners of the cells.

“Come here, darling.” Austin murmured, picking me up in his strong arms. It was if I was a feather. I yelped a bit as he touched my legs.

“Austin, I think she’s hurt.” The ginger boy stated, pointing to my legs. Austin bit his lip nervously, the points of his fangs glimmering in the anxious light.

“Alan, are her legs broken for sure?” He asked. Alan looked down, gently touching sore spots that I mumbled whimpers of pain. He nodded.

“Austin, we have to get her upstairs. She’s lost a lot of blood. She’ll need immediate attention.” Alan warned him. Austin gave me a sorry look before scooping me up again. I yelped in pain, the breath catching at my throat. The muscle locking sensation I had experienced hadn’t worn away and I couldn’t move.

“We’ll get you better, little one.” He whispered worriedly to me. We strode out at speeds that would match a jog. All the while, I fought to hold onto reality. Maybe if I could grasp threads long enough, I would live.

But by the time I reached the top of the steps, I had already fallen into darkness.
