There's Faith and Love

“Lily?” I asked cautiously. The woman cocked her head, as if she was curious to that question.

“Alan?” She blinked quickly through the rain. I took swift steps towards her. She flinched away.

“I’m dead!” She cried out. I shook my head, grinning from ear to ear.

“No, you’re not! You’re not!” I sniffled and wiped away the tears. She wasn’t dead! My Lily wasn’t dead! I couldn’t believe it. Miracles walk on earth. Lily just looked at me as if I said that the world was upside down. I touched her skin and she looked at me incredulously.

“I’m really alive?” She asked. I nodded, wrapping my arms around her. She fell into my chest, golden eyes sparkling. The green had faded away and was replaced with a magnificent amber melted with golden bands.

“It’s too good to be true.” I whispered into her hair. The girl looked like her, smelled like her, and felt like my Lily. Yes, it was her. The only thing different was that she was turned.

Her eyes were golden. Her lust for blood radiated off of her. She looked leaner, paler, and all the stronger.

“I’m really a vampire.” She stared at her own hands, as if they had morphed into claws. I took them in mine and held the close to me.

“Forever.” I whispered. She looked to me with little specks of happiness floating in her glance. I kissed her forehead and pulled her out of the rain and down the tower. She stumbled after me. I could see that her strength would fade out of her if she didn’t feed quickly.

“Where are we going?” Her voice quavered behind me. I led her down to the bottom level of the citadel. I took one look into those golden eyes and held her closer.

“We have to get you inside.” I told her firmly. She balked and I pulled her forwards.

“What!? With all of them!?” She gasped. Sighing, I peeked out the door. We had no option. She had to get inside and feed, otherwise she would starve and die or go rogue. We couldn’t have either.

“Lily, if you don’t feed soon, you’ll die or…worse.” I spat, shaking my head at the disturbing thoughts. Rogues were deadly and…not fun to get rid of. They liked a struggle.

“Please, I don’t want to die.” She whimpered. I pulled her out into the rain. She resisted, not used to this usual gift of strength.

“You won’t, so don’t worry. They won’t mess with you.” I promised. We scurried under the bullets of the slowly gathering torrential downpour. As we hit the castle doors, I shoved them open and let her go through before bolting them shut.

Lily shivered and stuck close by my side as we walked through the castle. I peered into the main hall. Sure enough, the other vampires were there. Chris, Balz, Ghost, Austin, Oli, Alex, and Jack all gathered around the large meeting table.

“Alan!” Austin smiled and called over to me. Lily was cowering behind me as I stepped out of the shadows.

“Austin, we need blood.” I said, holding my voice high. He looked at me oddly. No, Chris caught on immediately. He just face-palmed and shook his head.

“Alan you did not just…”

“Yep!” I cheerily stepped back. Lily squeaked and hid behind my back again. I turned around and pulled her back in front of me. Chris just put his forehead on the table, closing his eyes as if his head hurt. Balz just smiled. Oli beamed.

“At least you’re alive, kind of.” Oli chuckled. Austin looked moderately pleased and I just rolled my eyes, not caring what anyone thought. I had Lily and that was enough.

“How long ago?” Ghost asked me quietly. I thought for a moment.

“About a half hour or so.” I told him. He nodded and walked up to me. Lily shied away from the pale man.

“Come here, Lily.” Ghost softly spoke. Lily was frozen on the spot so I pushed her forward. She resisted, like a scared horse. Ghost peered at her.

The thing about new vampires was that you could tell how “fresh” they were, or how long ago they had turned. Typically they still had that color in their cheeks that would slowly pale within a day or two. Other signs were that their pupils would grow with hunger until they were starving, or when their pupils were at the biggest. Their eyes would glow almost red and turn dark with a ravenous beast of growing rage in them.

“Come on, Lily. Please look at me.” Ghost murmured. His soft voice was enough to make her turn towards him. The man nodded, stepping back.

“What’s she like, Devin?” Alex asked. Jack looked up expectantly.

“Not too bad, but it’s probably better to get her fed early. You never know with turned Witchers. For now, she’s pretty good. Chris!” Ghost explained. He called for his leader’s attention. Chris looked up from the table.

“I heard, I heard.” He grumbled. Ghost looked down to him.

“Do you want her to feed directly from one of the feed-subs or what?” Ghost called to him. I bit my lip at the thought. She wasn’t trained yet. She might accidentally kill one of the girls.

Then again, there seemed to be rebellion down there. Would one of the girls attack Lily? There was too much risk.

True to my thought, Chris declined it. “No, get a goblet. Fill one of those. It’ll be enough for now. We’ll train her on the feed-subs later.” Chris commanded. Ghost nodded and wobbled down the steps back to Balz.

“Once they calm down.” Jack grumbled. Alex bobbed his head in agreement.

“The pet is yours now, Ashby. Take care of her.” Chris raised an eyebrow at me. I nodded, fully accepting my responsibilities. I wanted to lash out at calling Lily a pet, but she was too scared at the moment to fully realize what was happening.

“Oli, you’ll go and fill the goblet.” Austin handed the man a cup. Oli was our new prison keeper. He had grudgingly agreed to the task. Although the former Witcher was hesitant to accept his life as a vampire, he at least felt better when he was completing a task. Therefore, we assigned him as the person to make sure the feed-subs were still eating, still alive, and at least not trying to beat each other or us bloody.

“Who’s sub should I fill it from?” The man asked as he stood up. Austin looked around.

“Blue’s a little anxious at the moment. Unless you want a black eye, I wouldn’t try her.” Ghost shook his head. Balz thought.

“Misty would just bite you anyways.” That was true that Misty was the rebel, the one that teased the night hounds, and that bit at anyone but Balz.

“You can take from Annabelle, but I would be careful of Luna.” Alex suggested. Jack nodded in agreement.

“She tried to break Alex’s ribs last time he went down there.” Jack shrugged. I winced a little. The girls never acted like this….

“Please, not Jynx. She’s….off limits.” Austin said darkly. Oli just sighed in defeat.

“Well, who from?” He cried out. I thought for a moment. Chris shook his head as I looked at him. No, not Grey-Girl either. So no GG, Misty, Blue, Luna, Annabelle, or Jynx…

“Um, what about the boys?” Balz suggested. I looked to Lily, still deathly afraid. Her eyes grew wider.

“Am I really drinking blood?” She asked me, wrinkling her nose in disgust. I nodded.

“Oh yeah! I guess she should feed from a guy since she’s a girl.” Alex sighed in relief. Oli looked repulsed at the fact that he’d have to bite one of the guy’s necks.

“Hey, so should we ‘promote’ one of them from worker to feed-sub?” Austin asked. Chris shrugged.

“Hey, you’re the one in charge of Oli and Alan. I’m fine with that. Choose one of the guys, and then promote away.” He suggested. I nodded in agreement. That was probably the wisest choice for now. I knew most vampires bonded with their feed-subs, but I had a feeling that it would be different for Lily.

“Okay, which one?” Oli questioned again. Austin looked to me. It was my choice.

“Kellin.” I spoke to the new vampire. He swiftly scurried out of the room, mentally preparing himself for the physical damage he might acquire. Lily was close at my side as I descended the steps to the main hall. She stuck to me like a shadow. The night hounds looked at her suspiciously before decided that taking a nap was more important than this new immortal.

I let Lily sit down on my right with Austin on my left. She glanced at her folded hands nervously as we all waited for Oli to come back with the cups.

There was some yelling, some screaming and cursing, before Oli came back up. He looked as if someone tried to attack him (which was usual) but he delivered the cup to the woman at my side.

“They put up a good fight.” He breathed heavily. Austin laughed. Oh, the feed-subs….
