Hidden in Plain Sight

Chapter 28

*Jaime's POV*

I had come home just before dark after spending the day out with the guys. We all had a day off because we were getting so tired of the late nights and early mornings. We all went out for lunch and stuff, we walked around a mall. We all invited our girlfriends to come out with us, but they didn't have the day off. They had to work. We asked Carly to come too, she had the day off. But she just said she didn't feel like it. She said she would stay and clean the house. Maybe go down to the beach or something. That was okay.

I walked straight into Carly's house because the front door was unlocked. That was the first strange thing that happened. Carly never has her front door unlocked, even when she is home. I sat my bags down on the floor, noticing the house was quiet. I walked to the back door. Charlie was outside, waiting to come in. When he saw me, he jumped up and down and I had let him in. That was the second strangest thing that happened. Carly doesn't like leave Charlie outside.

Charlie calmed down a bit, but walked to Carly's room before sitting in the doorway. He was whimpering. I followed him, but nervously. Why would he sit there and whimper? I entered her room, but Carly wasn't there. She wasn't in her bed. I checked her ensuite, she wasn't in the shower or in the bathroom. Carly didn't seem to be home. This isn't right.

I walked into the kitchen and what I saw scared me. A bottle of whiskey was smashed on the counter top, it was still dripping onto the floor. Shattered glass scattered the entire floor. It doesn't look very old. Carly hasnt tried to clean it. This is getting so strange. I am growing worried. I look above me, and it wasn't there. The bottle of vodka was missing too. I soon found it, shattered and soaking into the living room carpet.

My heart was beating way to fast now. The worst had happened. The house looked like it was invaded. Someone broke into Carly's house and smashed up the place. And worst, THEY TOOK CARLY!

I grab my phone, dialling Carly's number. I was almost jumping out of my skin out of anxiousness. I heard a noise shortly after. It sounded like vibration. I lift a pillow from the coffee table and there was Carly's phone. I fell to the lounge. So scared. I picked up her phone and went through it, looking for anything. Anything that may indicate what happened to Carly and where she might be. I check her call list. There was no phone all to emergency departments. Maybe she didn't have time to call the police because of the attacker.

The thought of Carly being attacked and taken scared me so much it gave me goosebumps. It made me shake and I wanted to cry. But I held myself together, trying to tell myself that it didn't happen. I looked at her phone again in a panic, and found something. The last call to her was to Jack, and before that, from her brother Dustin. I contemplate calling her brother.

"Little fox, are you okay?" A deep and concerned voice that was her brother aswered.

"Um hi Dustin, it's Jaime, Carly's boyfriend" I reply nervously.

"Oh hey Jaime. How is Carly? Is she okay?" He asked still concerned.

"That's actually what I wanted to call you about..." I say firmly as I grow even more worried. Carly's brother is worried about her too. This is not good.

" oh my god. Jaime what's wrong?"

"Well, when I came home I found a few smashed bottles of alcohol and Carly is missing. I haven't called the police or anything and you were the last person she talked to. So I was hoping you knew what was wrong"

There was a pause. "Oh fuck. Carly promised me she wasn't going to freak out. Carly lied to me. She told me you knew and you were here. Jaime, I need to tell you something that Carly probably hasn't told you. But Carly's father was abusive towards her as a child and Blake and I took her in when we moved out. I called Carly about an hour ago to tell her that our father passed away of an overdose. Now I know that it's a lot to take in right now. But I need you to go find Carly. She hates our father and I knew she would react like this" Dustin burst out.

"I uh... Um.." I stuttered.

"Jaime, I'm sorry about all of this, but please, you need to find Carly, and when you do. Call me and tell me if she's okay, please" Dustin begged. He loved his little sister and he was so worried.
"I promise i will. Thank you Dustin" I hung up.

Where is Carly?

Split it!!

If separating it into 2 parts makes the story have a better ending than I'm all for it. I don't mind waiting a little longer
