200 Reasons To Live

Hi, its probably been a year since I have posted anything on this website, but right now I'm here to explain somethings and ask something you guys, but I'll get to that in a bit.

I started this story over two years ago, in the summer between my sophomore and junior year of high school. This story stopped being updated frequently because I procrastinated a lot and the later into the year it became the more assignments I got.

The writing quality of this is shit compared to what I can write now. I have gone back and rewrote that first scene when Vic signs Skylar's poster at warped tour, or where the story begins, and I just absolutely love the way the new one came out. I'll post that at the bottom and I want honest feedback on it.

One of the big challenges I faced with this story is coming up with 200 Reasons To Live, that I could make into chapters, so what I'm really asking of you all is to comment a reason you have for living (and no, not family or because you have loved ones that'll miss you, it doesn't flow with my story).

And here is the new scene I was able to write:

When he saw her, it took but a split second for her face to register in his mind. Skylar. After all these years she stood before him waiting for him to sign some poster of his band that someone gave out. He stared at her in shock. His brother Mike nudged him to whisper something and froze as well. They both couldn’t believe that it was really Skylar.

“Hey come on, it’s the last one, could you hurry up we have a set that we have to do sound checks for.” Tony groaned, snapping Mike and me out of our shocked states. I leap up to my feet and scurry around the table at which I was seated. I wrapped my arms around her small torso.

“Skylar.” I exhaled.

“Vic. Mike. So the rumors are true you guys made it. I always knew you would.” She said, her happiness radiating out from her. Mike finally got up and wrapped his arms around the both of us. “Aww a group hug.” She laughed, with a hint of sadness. Both Mike and I pulled back from her and saw she had tears streaming down her face. I tilted my head and reached my hands up to cup her cheeks and wipe away the tears with my thumbs.

“Don’t cry, this is a time to be happy!” I exclaimed. She laughed a little then sniffled. Mike returned to his earlier seat and I followed suit. I pulled the cap off of a black sharpie that I had been using to sign posters all day. I signed my name on her poster then put a heart around it. I passed it down to Mike. “So what brings you here?” I ask, while she stood waiting for the poster to be signed.

“Well honestly I heard you had made it big,” she shyly tucked her hair behind her ear, “and there was a few other bands here I’ve always wanted to see.”

“Like who?” I asked, curious if I could help her be able to meet them. She shyly chuckled and cast her eyes down to the ground.

“I’m sure they are like not a big deal to you.” She softly said. I could tell she had ones in mind that she wanted to tell me, but was too shy to admit it. I guess I’ll have to take charge.

“Then I’ll take you to meet Sleeping with Sirens first.” I smiled, seeing her eyes lift to meet mine and brighten up. She shone with a glow I hadn’t seen from her this whole short interaction.

“I would like that very much.” She smiled. I stood up from my chair and walked over next to the girl who I thought I never was going to see again. She smiled again, but this time it was a soft smile with her always red lips. I reached for her hand and lightly grabbed it with my own.

“I’m going to head out, you guys good?” I asked my fellow bandmates. They all smiled and I knew that they were going to let me go, even if I shouldn’t.

“Yeah, go have fun!” Tony said, speaking for everyone.

I turned and walked out hand in hand with my the one that got away.
