The Forgotten Fuentes

Stay Away From My Friends

*Lunchtime that day*

Alli's POV~

Though Vic was in my third and fourth period classes, I steered clear. I wasn't ready to explain the note, or anything at that point, and Lilly had done the same with Mike, Vic's little brother. She had no idea that Mike had found the note until I called her during the switching period. She told me about the kissing, and how she fell out of the tree and how she ran off. I'm sure Mike was probably really confused but I'm sure that he'd understand once he knew why she'd run off. Surely after reading the note, he wasn't completely clueless, right?

I grabbed my tray and searched the cafeteria for somewhere to sit. There was nowhere that Lilly or I would be accepted so after a bit of arguing with her, we finally decided on going to the tree where we knew the boys would be.

As we walked up, Vic smiled and stood. I guess we gotta explain sometime, and I guess sometime is now.

Vic's POV~

Mike and I had been sitting under the tree, just thinking. We never really ate much at school, we waited until we were at home so that we could do it without being shunned. I looked over and saw Alli and Lilly nervously walking our way with their trays. I smiled and stood up as they approached us, glad that they'd stopped avoiding my brother and I.

Alli came over and sat down on the ground next to me, and Lilly beside her, trying to stay a good distance from Mike. I think this all had something to do with the note, but I wasn't sure. I opened my mouth to ask about it, but Alli seemed to read my mind.

"So I'm sure you guys are wondering why we acted so weird, right? Well, I'm going to explain it to you," she said. "Vic, I'll explain my reaction when you kissed my cheek, first," she continued, grabbing my hand. "You didn't do anything, I assure you, it's just that I've never felt anything like I did when I first saw you, and when you kissed my cheek, it got stronger, and I kind of freaked out a little. The reason I was, um, in the bathroom, was because I thought I'd screwed up, but when you defended me I knew I hadn't," she explained making me feel a bit better.

"And now about the note," she said shakily. She cleared her throat and began to explain. "Maxx was one of my friends.....that is, before he did what he did to my sister," she began, gesturing towards her sister, who was now not only next to Mike, but rather hiding behind him. He put his arm around her, and Alli continued. "You see, he was my best friend, and then he developed a thing for Lilly. He said cute things to her, hugged her, kissed her, things of that nature, but one day we were at a party at his house. He and I were completely shitfaced, and Lilly couldn't drive, so we stayed the night there. I woke up at about three am because Lilly was crying. He-uhm- he b-beat her, and t-then he raped her," she said, choking on the last words. "Now we are both a little, erm, cautious around boys. The note that fell out of her pocket, was one Maxx had given her right before we moved here. He told her that he'd visit her, and he'd beat her worse if he ever caught her with another guy....our grandmother, who we live with, doesn't care. She lets him do it as punishment for her daughter-my mom-'s death. So, yeah....that's why we acted the way we did," she finished.

My jaw hung open, and Mike's eyes were wide. Lilly buried her face in Mike's side and I found myself reaching out for Alli. She allowed me to pull her into a tight embrace, and she shook violently with silent sobs. I buried my face in her dark hair, and began to hum to her. I knew it calmed Mike, so I decided to try it out on her. It seemed to be working.

Suddenly, I heard a booming voice, followed by Lilly screaming, and I felt Alli tense up.

"Oh Lilly, I'm back. And I see you've disobeyed me. Guess you're gonna have to face the consequences," the voice said. Lilly screamed.
