The Forgotten Fuentes
You Want Someone Who Actually Cares
Alli's POV~
I'm so damn confused. After Lilly kissed Mike, it was apparent that she trusted him. She had reason to....he could've been killed protecting her, but he didn't care. I knew that I could trust him as well, but Vic....would he do the same? I've been hurt by trust before, I mean, look what happened with Maxx, my so-called "best friend". I want to trust Vic, but I just can't risk making that mistake again. What if he turns out just like Maxx?
I thought this over as I walked to the school, not looking back at the probably confused Vic behind me. I practically ran to my next class to avoid him. I had music next, that would be a good place to clear my head. I sat against the left wall of the large room and waited for the bell. The bell rang and I relaxed a little, knowing that Vic wasn't in this class. Just as the teacher began the lesson, he walked into the room. I sighed, hoping he wouldn't see me, but of course, he did. Vic walked over and plopped down right next to me. The teacher started to talk again, and I pretended to be paying attention, but Vic kept trying to get my attention, so I finally gave in and whispered a harsh, "What?" at him.
"Why are you so mad at me? Alli I know you are probably afraid that I'll betray your trust as your "best friend" did, but I promise that I won't," he whispered, putting air quotes around "best friend". How did he know? Oh well.
"I'm not mad I'm just frustrated. And how do I know you won't betray my trust, Vic? Why wouldn't you?" I asked, the harsh tone from earlier still lingering on my last question.
He sighed. "Because, Ariella. I love you. I have since I first saw you in the hallway, taking down the asshole who's been picking on us for years," he said, softly.
My breath hitched, and I swear my heart stopped for a few seconds. I sat there, shocked. Did he just say he loved me? No. Love doesn't happen that fast. He may like me, but life isn't a fairytale. There's no such thing as love at first sight. I know my sister believed it, and she was foolish to do so, but she was still young and naive.
I was pulled from my thoughts by Vic lightly shaking my shoulders. "Alli? Are you there?" he chuckled. I nodded and looked at the clock on the wall. We still had five minutes of class, and I had to get away from this boy. I don't care if you're not supposed to run from your problems, that's what I've always done. I guess maybe it's time to stop doing that.
I turned to Vic. "Victor, there is no such thing as love at first sight. Life isn't a fairytale. Maybe you like me, but you don't love me. Not yet. Just like I like you, but I know that it is impossible to feel something as strong as love with you yet," I said, my voice every bit as confident as my mind wasn't. He looked shocked at first, then he smirked.
"Fine, Ariella Boyde, I really like you. And I will wait as long as I have to for it to turn into real love, because I know that I will feel that way forever," he said, laughing a bit. I reflected his smirk, and said,"I like you too, Victor Fuentes."
The bell rang and we both stood up. "Hey Alli, since we both 'like' each other, may I please hold your hand as we walk to our next class, which I believe is Spanish?" he asked, with a thick Spanish accent. "I don't know....holding hands is a pretty big step," I said playfully, grabbing his hand, "but I think we're ready, don't you?"
"Sí, la muchacha hermosa. Creo que sí," he said, pronouncing every word perfectly. I smiled as our fingers laced together, and I didn't stop smiling until we got to the classroom area. We were late, but I looked into all the classrooms along the way. That's when I saw.....her.
