Shattered

Fight the Pain, it Just Feels Like Forever is Crashing Down on Me

I woke up with the pain in my skull Saturday morning. Thursday was torture, but I didn’t even want to recall the memories of Friday. I lost count of how many times I had passed out after Miles choked me to near death for the fifteenth time. I just remember the boiling water treatment five times after I didn’t look him in the eye, and lashes that lacerated my skin.

It gusty outside. The breeze howled and cursed the world, just like I did. I must’ve lost five pounds of weight in water because I had cried so much. It wasn’t like I had a choice! Once he took the iron poker out and burned me, small drops of water trickled down my bloody cheeks in agony.

Oh the dear torture!

It must’ve been about eight in the morning, but the sun was obscured by the grey overcast clouds overhead. Despite the dim radiance, my head throbbed and pulsed with a bad headache. I pulled at the much too large grey shirt and shorts that I had been forced to wear. Miles had made me change from my black attire to this old set of clothes. This was supposed to be for the surprise that was going to happen soon.

He said that scarlet and black didn’t mix well together.

The collar pulled at me insistently, although I was laying down and barely awake. The spikes that dug into my neck drew deep red drops like rubies. As I started to sit up from the restless sleep I had gotten near the couch, I groaned in pain. The three burn marks I had acquired throbbed in a dull pain. After this much torture, I should’ve had a higher pain tolerance!

“Up already, Kynder?” A voice boomed. I slunk closer to the wall. My entire being felt so bare without my dark attire. I couldn’t hide, didn’t stand a chance. Miles entered the room with a whip and knife in hand. I made eye contact and forced myself to hold it.

“Get up! It’s time for your little surprise.” He laughed again. Well wasn’t he in a good mood or what? Miles was probably happy to torture me again. He unclipped the leash, leaving me free with only the silver chain collar rubbing at my raw skin. He prodded me forward, down the hall to the bedroom.

The entire room had a cream white color to it. The carpet with a shaggy grey and the bedspread matched the wall cover. The actual bed and nightstand sat against the center on the back wall. I feared for what would happen next. I stood awkwardly and afraid in the center of the room. Miles circled me like a hungry wolf, sliding the knife into his back pocket and leaving the whip in his hand.

“Ready for your surprise, street girl?” He snarled. I hunched back in defense as he stepped forward.

“Yes, s-sir.” I stuttered, really wanting to jump out the window on the east wall that faced the forest and escape once again. I would’ve gladly taken Austin over this man.

His whip flicked across my chest in a lightning fast motion. It took another hole in the shirt I wore. It was more like thread holding small pieces of fabric together, not a blood stained shirt.

“On the bed. Now.” He growled. I did as he said and sat on the bed. He threw the whip to the floor, small spatters of blood now staining the grey yarn of the carpet. He dug his nails into my flesh as his strong hands grasped my shoulders and pushed me against the pillows. I struggled and wiggled in his grip.

I knew what he wanted now.

“Shut up, worthless girl!” He slapped me across the face as I let out a gasp of surprise. He pinned me down and straddled my hips, taking his knife out of his pocket.

The blade gleamed violently as he pressed the tip under my chin. A small, hot flash of pain danced across my nerves as he gently dragged the tip down my throat until it hit the fabric of the grey shirt. He pressed down harder this time, tearing a clean line until it hit the waistband of my shorts. I held still the entire time, fearing for him to plunge the knife into my chest.

Single drops of tears dribbled down the scars on my face and through my tangled hair. I bit my lip as the line of pain flared up. His eyes were filled with lust and greed as he tore the rest of the shirt off of me, leaving me in my black sports bra and shorts.

He leaned over until his lips brushed my ear, giving a low chuckle. “When I’m done, I’m going to enjoy killing you. The more you struggle, the more it will hurt.” He whispered. I drew blood trying to hold my tongue and not struggle.

I was going to die, for real this time. There was no doubt about it. Mitch wouldn’t give me any third chances, he was probably just going to kick me over the line to the fields.

This time, I was afraid.

His fingers grazed my skin, sending terror filled shivers across all parts of my body. The grasped the grey waistband as he leaned down and bit my neck.

A phone rang.

With an angry growl, he stood up and gave me an evil glare that said, if you move, I will embed this knife into your soul. I could hear the broken voice on the other end.

“House to cabin, we have an emergency!” An older voice yelled. In the background, the screams of dying and injured rang out. Someone screamed about a golf club…?

“What, what is it? Speak up!” Miles bellowed, holding the phone closer to his ear. What was going on?

“They found us! They found us! Oh for the love of everything and anything, they’re swarming the downstairs level! I hear their footsteps! There’s got to be at least fifty of them, all homeless! I’m on the roof right now….NO NO NO! GAAHAHAHHHH….” The voice trailed off. A loud thump was heard a few seconds later.

“Yo, Austin! There’s a cabin where Kynder is! I think I can see it, it’s just north!” A voice called. I gasped and caught my breath.

Austin was here! It had to be him! He had an army of homeless people with him and they were coming to destroy Miles!

Miles snapped his phone off in anger, nearly cracking the screen as he slammed it into his pocket. I was ecstatic because I might actually make it!

“Change of plan. Get on your knees, here.” He commanded. I did and sat back on my legs in the middle of the floor, unable to fight back. A whip cracked across my bare back as he took his free hand and twisted my collar so it choked me once again. The spikes buried into my pink skin. Miles grasped the open knife in his other hand, holding it under my chin. I had jumped out of one fire into a bigger inferno.

“Looks like this will be a public execution.” He muttered angrily.

All it was is a waiting game.
