Shattered
Wake Me Up, from this Dream That Never Ends
When I woke up, Alan was gone. The bruises didn’t seem to hurt as much but I was stiff as a board. The only things that still hurt were the big bruise on my spine and the hole in my chest.
I guess now I can literally say I have an empty feeling in my stomach.
Food smells wafted up from the kitchen. They made my gut twist up and hurt. It wasn’t a pleasant feeling to experience. I was still on my side, the one with the least pain.
Besides not feeling hungry, I didn’t want to go down and face Austin right now. I didn’t want another confrontation. As I stared at the door, Alan’s head poked in to see how I was doing.
“How are you, Kynder?” He asked softly. A tear still clung to his eyelid. Shouts had been heard through the open window, but I couldn’t tell what they were yelling about, or who it was. Alan looked like he had been crying again.
“Better, sir.” I responded blandly. I didn’t want to see him because all I could think about was Austin at his side.
“Take it easy today, Kyn.” Alan said softly before shutting the door again. It’s not like I could actually move, so I figured that would be a pretty easy order to follow.
I didn’t want to be here anymore.
I knew that this was what it would be like for the rest of the week. It would be lying in bed, Alan trying to help, and plenty of terrible agony. Small tears rolled down the sides of my cheeks for all that I had gone through, for all that I had lost
