Memories that Haunt Us

Guardian Angels

Arabelle's POV

Oh was I excited! Aunt LP were taking us to the park with Kena! It was my absolute favorite place with the swings that made me feel like I was touching the clouds and the slides that went fast. The blue slide seemed to call my name, even from the blocks down where it resided. JC and I had been to the park a lot this week, with mom and dad needing to take care of little Beth. Even though we seemed to be able to run freely under the careful watch of LP often enough, I never got tired of the familiar twists and turns of the slides and ladders.

The light stayed green, and my anxiousness only increased. I couldn't wait for it to turn so we could head off! I really wanted to talk to this man, because I had seen him almost everyday. He had striking blue eyes that always watched me, but it wasn't scary. The mysterious man's watch was more comforting. Was he just a Guardian Angel? Kena always said that her daddy was her Guardian Angel and he stomped with other angels in storms. That's why it thunders.

His arms were also decorated with tattoos like daddy's. He seemed so shy! If he was an Angel, he was a heavily tattooed man that always wore a black jacket and jeans.

I'll talk to him today! I decided. Maybe he was just lonely and timid...

The light turned and the white man told us we could walk. I grasped Aunt LP's hand and started walking across the street. JC complained that he was old enough to walk on his own, but still held Kenadee's. Some other person crossed behind us, but I was to focused on the park.

Kenadee, LP and I made it across the street but a tight clench in my stomach warned me of something else. Turning around, the feeling of being sick worsened. JC was stopped in the middle of the street, with a car speeding towards him. I nearly doubled over from the sight.

But when the car hit his spot, he wasn't there. We looked down the road to search for a body, but found a man who caught my little brother in his arms. The feeling slid out of me as I saw both men unhurt. LP and Kenadee cried out and rushed over to him. All I could do was stand there in shock.

I nearly lost my brother, I nearly lost my brother, I nearly lost my brother.

The man looked didn't look phased as he spoke quiet words to JC, ruffling his hair in the process. He looked up to the adult approaching him but glanced behind their shoulders to me. His icy blue eyes held something familiar. I caught my breath as he looked away.

It was the man from the park!

He turned away as LP looked back to me and rummaged through her purse. Within the blink of an eye, he was gone.

Notes

So I decided to do a chapter in Arabelle's POV. I hope you enjoyed the change of view!
