Words When You're Ready

I woke up to a sight that made my heart flutter, Manta, asleep peacefully. I knew she was pretty but here, her sleeping so innocently, was the first time I realised how completely beautiful she is. I leaned over the barrier between us and kissed her forehead, whispering. “Darling, you’ll be okay.” In her ear, then returning to my seat on the bed, a smile spreading across my face.

Who would have thought a night with her would send me falling into my first case of ‘love at first sight’.

She seemed to make my problems and put them to the side, making my whole world stop to stare at her; Something that not many people could do. I had just recently broken up with my girlfriend… ex-girlfriend Danielle and I was feeling quite down but, she took all that away.

The peace and quiet was interrupted by a sob, and a gasp. I quickly turned to see the sleeping beauty, now teary eyed and wide awake. “What happened, Manny?” I asked, furrowing my eye brows in concern. She just shook her head, rubbed her eyes then jumped out of bed, swiftly shuffling over to the bathroom, slamming the door. I would crack her one day, I was certain of it. I sighed as I rose from the bed, going to get dressed, pulling on a pair of khaki shorts I had with me the night before, just in case.

A half hour had passed, and Manta finally emerged, her makeup and hair now in order. “You’re looking cute.” I grinned, walking over and standing in front of her, gently taking her hand. I looked into her eyes, her sad yet beautiful eyes. She cringed as tears filled her eyes and he pulled her hand away lightly, walking away from me to grab some clothes. I just stood there, my hands in fists. I had to relax, despite her being so fucking difficult to get through to and to fucking get her to calm down, I had to relax, for her sake.

“Hey, once you’re ready, I’ll take you back to San Diego.” I suggested, sitting on the chair in front of where her suitcase was. She gave me a paniced look, then shook her head. “No, no Manny, you’ll stay with me okay? You won’t go back to Ronnie, I promise.” I assured her, trying to get her to calm down. She sighed deeply and nodded, moving to go get changed in the bathroom.
Maybe she won’t be so hard to get through to after all.
