The Only One I Need Is You

Chapter Seven

As promised, Jason picked me up after Honors English. Technically, only the seniors were supposed to go off campus for lunch, anyways. The small restaraunt across the street.
We walked in and orderd our food. After a few minutes of awkward silence, Jason finally said, "So what year are you in?"
"Freshman," replied. "You?"
"Softmore," he said excitedly.
I giggled. "What are you planning on doing when you graduate?"
"Opening a bakery. Or being the drummer in a band. Whichever comes first."
"My dad is in a band!" I exclaimed. "If you find your own band mates, I'm sure he can help you get started."
He looked at me like I was crazy. "Ryn, are you serious?
"Hell yeah, I am!"
He looked so excited and then he asked, "What about you? What do you wanna be?"
I considered this for a moment. "I don't know."
He leaned on his hand into the table. "What are your hobbies?"
"I like to bake, write, read, listen to music. Stuff like that. What about you?"
"I play drums, bake, clean." I snorted at the cleaning part. "What?"
"Clean?"
He turned red. "Yep. It soothes me."
After we were done eating, we headed back to the school. He looked at me one last time and handed me a piece of paper. "This is my number. Give me a call when you get home?" I nodded and he hugged me before running off to class.
When I got home, I yelled my appearance and went to my room, grabbing my cell and dialing the number on the paper. He picked up on the third ring. "Hello?" he asked cautiously.
"Hi! It's Ryn."
"Oh! Hi, Ryn, what's up?"
"Nothing. I just got home."
"Same. You wanna hang out next Friday? Maybe go to the movies or some shit?"
"Hold up, let me ask my dad." I put the phone down and yelled, "DAD, CAN I HANG OUT WITH A FRIEND NEXT FRIDAY?"
There was a moment of silence before I heard, "SURE THING, SWEETY! JUST BE CAREFUL!"
"He said yes."
"Woo! Cool, we'll just go straight after school."
"Alrighty. Well, I have to go cook some dinner. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah. Byyyyye."
"Byyyye," I said and hung up.
I ran downstairs and was about to pull some spaghetti out and cook it, when my dad stopped me.
"We're going out to eat tonight. All of us." By 'all of us', he meant us and the guys.
"What's the occasion?" I asked.
"You're first day of high school AND a friend."
I smiled and got ready to go eat.
