The Only One I Need Is You
Prologue: The Only One I Need Is You
"Ryn!" my dad, Vic, called from down the stairs. I ran into my closet and hid, crying. "Ryn, sweety, where are you?"
He jiggled the knob on my door. Locked. I heard his footsteps going down the hall to retrieve the keys. He came back a moment later and I heard the click of the lock and he came in.
"Sweety...?" he called.
I tried to control my sobbing, but he must have heard me because the next thing I know, he's opening my closet door and looking down at me. He didn't even hesitate to pick me up in his arms and cradle my five year old self.
"Dad...what are we gonna do? Mom's gone...," I said through sobs. Let me explain.
My mother had had cancer for the past few years. We had just gotten a phone call from the doctors saying she had died.
My dad was crying too and he sat on my bed and hugged me tight, combing his fingers through my hair.
The phone rang from somewhere in the house, but none of us did anything about it. We had each other. We only needed each other.
