This Is What Makes us Girls

Chapter 7

“So are you stuck up or do you really despise this place?” Ava asked me one morning as we both started to get ready.

Two whole weeks had passed since I’ve started at Barthelme and I had to say that my social life had immensely minimized since my arrival. If I wasn’t going to my classes then I was in my dorm room, listening to Nirvana while doing homework. I hated my life here only because I didn’t really have one. Any attempts at social interaction were dismal since I seemed to radiate a cheerless expression. I’ve developed a naturally pouty expression which on occasion would somehow have guys coming up to me to make small talk. I grimaced at their attempts before ignoring them completely and walking away.

I chuckled at Ava’s question. “That’s very blunt.” I commented.

Ava sighed. “I’m only asking because you’ve turned into a complete hermit crab since you arrived. I thought you were a hopeless case like me, someone who craved adventure and trouble.”

I laughed again. “To answer your question, I’m not stuck up. I just…well, I liked the life I used to have.” I admitted.

Ava smiled. “Everyone here hates this place.” She pointed out. “However, if you’re ever looking for fun that’s above the ordinary then come out with me and my brother them. We have a reliable hook-up that delivers that dopest dope.”

I was never really into anything other than drinking, but any form of escape seemed essential at the moment.

“It won’t fuck me up, will it?” I asked hesitantly.

Ava shook her head. “No, it’ll give you a good, strong buzz. Besides smoking weed near Fillmore Park is one of the perks about being a boarding school kid.”

“Fillmore Park?” I asked.

“Yeah, it’s a park just on the outskirts of the campus grounds. Thick woods that can cover us and there’s this old abandoned playground. Melanie Parker claims that she had sex there once, that whore even brags about it, but honestly it’s way too damn creepy and mildewed to have sex at.” This was one thing I noticed about Ava, she spoke in a rapid fashion that made it almost hard to keep up with.

I laughed. “Sure, I’ll come out. Meet you back here tonight?” I asked.

“Definitely.” Ava said while grabbing her bag. Just before she disappeared around the corner she said “By the way, my brother and Mike have the hots for you.”

And just as fast as her statement slipped from her mouth did she leave the room. Pulling on my uniform, I felt a small blush form on my face. I barely spoke to anyone except for Ava and even then those were limited accounts. Tony was nice enough in the classes we shared, and Mike was an interesting character. To be honest, they were both attractive that I tried my best to distance myself from them.

Tony was the kind of guy who held the door for me whenever I was entering class, the kind of guy who would casually make small talk about the weather or whether or not if we had homework—the weather was always gloomy since it was nearing winter and as for homework, we always had homework. Tony was also the kind of guy who would bring me an extra bag of chips to lunch, considering I’d sit with Ava and her friends. He’d occasionally drop by, giving me a bag of chips, then make small talk with Ava and her friends before heading off to his own table filled with his friends.

Mike on the other hand, wasn’t as kind as Tony. However, he wasn’t a fully fledged asshole either. Mike was a flirt, one of the biggest flirt I’ve ever encountered. He wore a constant smirk on his face while his eyes seemed to glare with flirtatious stares. He oozed charm and charisma that it was hard to not bite back a smile around him. Mike was also a notorious note passer in the classes I share with him. He was always trying to get my number and simultaneously wanting to get into my pants. At first I thought it was cute, but then I soon realized he did this with most girls, in which it wore off the novelty of him having an interest in me. Mike wouldn’t really acknowledge me outside of class, which always confused me since he so desperately (or maybe not so desperately) wants to fuck me.

Nonetheless, I found myself wearing my famous monotone, deadpan expression as I walked through the halls and to my designated classes. The familiar glares bore into my back as I made my way through class and to my seat.

“I heard she fucked her teacher at her old school.” One of the glaring girls said in a hushed tone.

“No way, I heard she got pregnant with some guys kid and then decided to go ape shit on him. She broke his nose and jaw.” The other countered.

One of the girls scoffed. “You guys are demented. Elizabeth Grant apparently had sex with three guys at once, then had a pregnancy scare, so her parents sent her here.”

I rolled my eyes while running my fingers through my hair. Apparently, people were still talking about me and why I was here. It was nothing but gossip, but it made me wonder how the hell anyone came up with half the shit they thought. Last week, this pipsqueak of a girl claimed that I was sent here for bankrupting my parents, which to be frank sounds like the dumbest rumor ever since tuition to Barthelme comes at a pretty steep price.

“So you fucked a teacher, huh?” Mike smirked while scooting in next to me.

I rolled my eyes. “It seems so.”

“How was that?” He joked.

“A helluvalot easier than sex with three guys at once.” I muttered.

Mike laughed.

I don’t know why I was in such a playful mood, but I decided to indulge Mike with my sarcasm. “I’m being serious. Sex with three guys is exhausting.”

“The girls here like to run with their imagination.” He commented.

“I’ve noticed.”

It got quiet as we waited for lecture to begin. That was around the same time Tony walked in as well, flanking on the other side of me. I was curious as to where Ava was, considering she usually sat next to me, but as I glanced around I couldn’t find Ava.

“You two look cozy.” Tony teased, masking the hint of jealousy in his voice.

“Yeah, we’re the epitome of the word.” I remarked blandly.

Mike chuckled. “I think this is the most I’ve ever heard you talk.”

I shrugged, remaining silent.

“Ava told me you were coming with us tonight.” Tony mentioned.

“Yeah.” I answered before adding “Where is Ava anyway?”

Tony smirked. “She’s handling some business.” He replied. “Do you have any preferences for what kind of drink you like?”

“I’m a sucker for Cherry Schnapps, but honestly, anything with alcohol will do.” I admitted.

This time Mike smirked “Whiskey okay?”

I offered an uncommitted nod. “I like to drink.”

“You think you can keep up with the big boys?” Mike challenged.

I rolled my eyes. “I’ll drink you under the table.”

Both Tony and Mike chuckled before we decided to pay attention to today’s lesson. I couldn’t help but wonder when my sociable side decided to come out and play. Either way, I was ready to get drunk again. It’s been far too long.

@holdmyheart_tty

Thank you, dear. I have to admit that although I love her music and I don't know her very well when it comes to writing stories about her. But when I was given the opportunity, I took the challenge. It makes me so happy to know that I got her whole persona right in the chapter!! - TheBandWriter

This actually fits Lana's personality because she's really shy. It was her performing her music that made he become less of an introvert.
